I'm student teaching right now. I wish you could have been my mentor teacher, you are so knowledgeable, kind, and an amazing educator. I love your personality and teaching style. Thank you for this video. God bless. ❤️
I think we can learn so much from veteran teachers. No matter what year you are in you should be looking towards the veterans. We have a teacher has is on her 30th year and I always ask her for advice. She is so wise and I want to soak up as much as possible from her before she retires.
Definitely! They just have so much knowledge and experience. I still go to my grandmother who is a retired school teacher with 40 years of experience to help me when I just need insight and help.
I am a first year teacher but I am humble as humble pie. I am always seeking out the best for help. I always say thank you, and I always let them know how much I appreciated their assistance and time.
@@OneFABTeacher -- what is the "bucket filler" wall/activity behind you. I am going to use the "I'm done, now what do I do". . . .but is the "bucket filler" part of that idea...?
I’m a first year and I know I have so so so much to learn from others. I take every advice that I can and I am constantly picking everyone’s brain lol. I have been trying to do better at leaving on time since I already arrive 1 hour to an 1 hour 1/2 before school starts. It’s the best time to get my copies done and get ready for my day. By 4:00 I am ready to leave and head to the gym to work on myself. Thanks for the video Ms. May!
Thank you so much. First year teacher here. I start in September. I appreciate all of your advice and I’ve been following you for the past few months. God bless you!
Fellow May, here! Thank you for posting this! First year 1st grade teacher in a private school. It has definitely been directed by the Lord ❤️. Your tips are definitely encouraging!!!
It is very hard not to compare in general. It is easy for me to be humble, but comparing myself is hard. I am great at time management, but I am a person that likes to get everything done. Can you do a video about how to prioritize, figure out where to stop, how to know what needs to be done vs we want
One Fab Teacher, Miss May, you truly ROCK!!! I wish I had someone share those tips with me when I was a first year teacher back in 1989. I am in my 26th year of teaching and still need to remember these tips. I also love your reminders of having faith in God. Love all the videos I've seen of you and look forward to seeing more. Your faculty and firsties are very lucky to have you teaching at their school. Cheers!
I've just started my TH-cam channel and even though I've been teaching for 18 years, I've forgotten some of this stuff. Thanks so much. I'll be watching!
I have watched you videos for years during college and now I’m FINALLY going to be a first time pre-k teacher in January and I love re-watching all of your videos 💕
Oh my gosh!!! Yes! We are there for the kids! I always feel like whenever I remember the fact that these are Gods children I do so much better in the classroom! For myself and the kids. More forgiving, more fun, more learning can happen!!! 😊 great content 👍💗
Mis May I just want to tell you that I'm a first year student studying for foundation phase at Potchefstroom kampus in South Africa. I have al of these projects to do and its really getting to me, but you ALWAYS inspire me, you ALWAYS make me want to do my work and work hard. So yeah I just wanted to say thanks for everything you do and all the time you put into these videos, because you are helping teachers / almost teachers all around the world. You are inspiring us all and motivating us in all ways possible ! Thanks Mis May!!! Keep doing what you're doing !!
Thank you so much for this video! I’m student teaching this semester and graduate in December. I’m nervous but I’m trying to learn all I can about the profession before I land my 1st teaching job.
I'm a TA in school working to become a teacher. I am constantly asking questions. I currently work in the BSC classroom and that is helping with me to learn classroom behavior/management techniques. I feel like that is so important as a first year teacher...getting classroom management down.
I’m going on my 16th year of teaching and these classroom tour videos and live teaching lessons and other things TH-cam teachers share is my professional development for fresh ideas. The PDs I have is school are bleh but I benefit the most from what I learn from other teachers and how I can make it work in my class. I’m all for continuous learning. My last masters was in 2013. So much has changed since then.
I’m a third year teacher but I really still appreciate this advice. So good to pause and ask myself where I’m at with these things. I sooo agreed with not comparing and being humble!!!! Both hard both sooo important.
Only a few months ago, I just began teaching as the lead teacher for the first time! Thank you so much for this video because it’s helping me. God bless ♥️
Thank you for such valuable advice, Miss May! I've been struggling to get into my first classroom and I've been graduated/licensed for a year and a half now. I've done lots of subbing and leaves, but still no job yet. :( I've been worried after a few experiences that I would be on my own and expected to have it together 100% of the time, but I'm so lucky to have the guidance and mentorship of veteran teachers like yourself to help me along as I struggle through this confusing time. This video is such a blessing!
I truly appreciate this video because the comparing tip and prioritizing tip is so helpful for me. I always try to look at other teachers to figure out how they are getting things done in their classroom. I also am a Type A teacher that likes things done efficiently and thrives on to-do lists. Because of this video, I will now get some tips from them instead of comparing myself. I will also work on knowing my strengths and weaknesses as a teacher.
Thank you so much for this video as I will be a first year teacher soon ( I hope)... but it was great advise for first year teacher and just teachers period. Thank you
Im starting college in august to become a 1st grade teacher... im watching videos and doing research to make sure I understand and what to expect and I absolutely love watching your videos and im even more excited for my future career!! And you seem like an amazing person and teacher... and i wish u could be my mentor... but im in florida 🥰🥰🥰
Do you have tips on how to sell yourself/teaching philosophy to the parents so they believe in you? I want to be humble but convincing at the same time.
I want to thank you for creating this video. This is my very first year teaching and listening to you give advise has really helped me. Thank you so much!
Omg I swear I can't thank you enough. I'm 18 and I'm a teacher for preschool and kinder for after school program. My first time was last week and it was crazy. I would often ask for advice and help because I don't know anything about getting kids attention or what to do to calm the classroom down. I feel like I'm too boring and I'm trying my best to make it fun. I still have a lot to learn and I wasn't cocky at all either. I would let any staff or parents know that it's my first year and that I'm trying my best. I know how to deal with children because I would help at a daycare or babysit for 5 years so I know how children's behaviors are and what to do. It's just a bit difficult for me now because it's about 15 kids in my classroom. 😵 I'm going to watch every video of yours and study more to be a great teacher as you. 😊
Thank you so much, Miss May! I will be finishing up student teaching with my firsties and graduating in May! I can’t thank you enough for your channel, positivity and advice! ❤️❤️❤️
Omg I just came across this video. It was very informative and NEEDED! I’m currently in school for ECE and have two more years before I’m off to experience my first year. This just furthers my hopes. Thank you so much for sharing this advice.
I'm a first year teacher and it's been a good journey :) this video is great..I call my first graders "firsties" because of you 💗 let's go year 2 lol I'm always picking other teacher's brains...I teach at a private school now but I'm starting my credential program in fall 2018 as I eventually want to teach in a bilingual classroom in public school 💗
I agree with you about new teachers. I like how you say NEW teachers vs YOUNG teachers. I have newer teachers who acted like they knew it all. One example is my old choir director. He came in as if he was all that and a bag of chips He told us he had listened to our contest pieces and that they were horrible, Undermining (think thats' the word) the judges which gave us great ratings. He even got rid of the choir I was in. He destroyed the choir. We had 150 kids in it when he came in after his first year, it was down to 100 and after his second (and last year) it was down to 50 or so. He wasn't respectful or kind towards us and he resigned after 2 years becaus our kids were too baldy behaved ..was his reason.
Ms. May I just started watching your channel. You are so cute, humble and inspiring. I watched your Thanksgiving video this evening and saw you are from Des Moines. I am too and my maiden name is May. Just too funny. I am in education also. Too much! I hope you get this message.
Miss May you are a wonderful amazing person!.I was searching videos because I am going into my first year of teaching and your video was everything I wanted and needed to hear! I am going to be teaching first grade and I am so excited yet nervous! You gained a new subscriber!
It will be my first year teaching this upcoming school year and I’ll be teaching first grade! Your videos are my fav!! I wish you could come to my school and be my mentor teacher! 😂😭
Thank you, Miss May for the advice! I love watching your videos. You are so positive and inspiring! I found this really helpful as I am on my to earning a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. I feel super discouraged though sometimes because of how hard it is to get your degree. I completely underestimated how hard it would be to achieve this. I know I will eventually attain a degree since am half-way there and will have my first two years of college done, but sometimes I just get discouraged. Do you have any advice?
Im on my 1st year and I hate it. Lord forgive me - the mentor I have is my department head (middle school math). I feel so bad because I regret spending so many years trying to finish school and now I’m somewhere that I hate.
Do you have any tips for a more soft spoken/shy teacher. My biggest fear is not being authoritative enough as a teacher and being walked all over. I am an aspiring teacher that would be starting as a second career changer
I’m going to be a teacher next year “I hope”.. and I’m so nervous 😬 I had great practicum experiences last years .. however this year internship wasn’t the best (the teacher is great and humble but the students 💔🤯)
Hi my sweety. Great tips. Thanks 4 sharing. Can u tell me pls the Type or mame of the font u use in the bit color letters behind you. Thanks a lot. Blessings. Miss Miriam
The advice to stop always comparing and to focus on your personal version of progress is really helpful!

I agree with the priority, it takes a while to be comfortable with leaving some work for the next day etc. We need time to recharge at home.
You are so wise. If I only took your advice when I started teaching .... man you DON’T come across “that” way.... ❤️
Awwwww, thank you! ((Hugs))

Thanks for the great advice! I just accepted my very first teaching job (2nd grade) and I'm looking for all the advice I can get!
