Check out the description for info of which version is running in each segment! I tried to use real hardware where possible, or at least a port of it. Some games have no version other than the arcade, however.
I totally agree with your number 1! For my experience , I've enjoyed a lot the first two chapters of Virtua Striker in the old arcade times. The idea of making a video about AM2 has been a great thing! AM2 released some of my favourite arcade games of all times: I've also created a tune for an upcoming italian channel dedicated to arcade games, which will be released soon, and a huge inspiration for it came from my memories about AM2 arcade games. That says all about my experience and love for them.
That Am2 logo, man it really gets me; what a legacy and what memories. Some of my greatest gaming moments came as a result of this illustrious studio so it's wonderful to see them openly revered. Great idea for a video SLX, keep it up!
This channel has some of the best video game content on YT and the videos are released very often. No stupid jokes or comedy bits. Straight to the point reviews and no filler. Thank you!!
Power has been out in my house for 35 hours because I live in Texas. It just can back on. This is exactly what I need to lift my spirits. Its been a rough few days since my house got to 38 degrees. Thank you SO much.
Hang in there Southern neighbor.. Up here in Calgary, Canada, cold is a fact of life. We just had a 2 week stretch of -30 Celsius.. global warming is bullshit!🤣
@@Fattydepositno ones gonna pay for 2d arcade roms when anyone who knows anything has been playing those for free for the past 20+ years, I’d at least bother paying for 3D arcade titles
From one Sega enthusiast to another, we did come a long way. I would have loved to see arcades grow thru these last 30 years, but home gaming would not have reached such heights without arcades slowly dissolving. It's great to have the fond memories of those machines the first time you saw them. It was such a lucky feeling to get a chance to discover one without throngs of people fighting to put quarters in one. Full size version of Galaxy Force was an epiphany back in the 80's. I wish I could go back in time with a crisp $20 and play for an hour.
Virtua Cop 2's Saturn port is a miracle on par with Sega Rally. I wish light gun games worked on flat screens (without major hassle) as that's the one old game I'd like to play again that I can't easily. I did set up a Wii remote for use with emulators but it's weirdly complicated and unreliable. Maybe that has changed but i gave up in frustration. As for OutRun 2. I can find one flaw, it's too easy. Even on highest difficulty oyf you're familiar with the game at all you will successfully complete a route. If you get into trying to better your times then there's no problem, but I never did. At least it isn't too hard like OutRunners which I've never completed!
YES!! Outrun 2 is indeed perfection! Honestly though, Sega AM2 at their heights were arguably the most technically incredible and exciting studio ever and I don't think we'll ever see another studio like them. What a time to be alive. Arcade greatness.
Sega Lord X's outros always give me chills. This is probably one of my favorite youtube channels. I love the nostalgia and revisiting games/topics and systems from yesteryear.
Daytona and Virtua Fighter 2 were just the best. I remember just standing there and watching the machines play in demo mode too. My jaw must have been on the floor.
You're not alone. I am too. I think that's part of what makes this channel great. It revisits our youth and gives some new insight or just reaffirmation to our thoughts.
It's nice that we lived through that. Everyone (if they are lucky) will live a number of decades. I'm glad that my life has included a time when such innovation was occurring. Someone born this year will be born in a world already with 4K 60 with ray-tracing and such. There will no doubt be innovation, but nothing like the change from Pac-Man to Daytona USA, which occurred within a 13-14 year period...comparable to Pac-Man having come out in 2007 and now we're seeing Daytona USA for the first time. It was a magical era.
First time I saw SCUD race in my local AMC I was blown away. Looked like another colossal leap forward in graphics. It would also be the first time I was really disappointed that there was no attempt at an easily translatable home port.
Nah, Sega screwed themselves from the inside and us Sega fans got hurt the worst. If the company was run better they would’ve...should’ve been top tier. They ran the arcade industry and hand somewhat of a foot hold in the console market aaaaand they fucked that up
My thought in saying that was not 100% graphical but also gameplay as well. And while one or two SEGA games kicked but at the time, there were soooooo many swings and misses. Too many rushed titles and games pushed out to simply push out games. Trust me, the early 90's, i actually got tears in my eyes by the outstanding line up. And I bought in to all from that point forward until 2000. The Dreamcast have me hope again for SEGA but then they killed it and I haven't "forgiven" them since. To top it off looking back (I would have never admitted at the time) Nintendo and Sony wiped the floor with SEGA
Disney World: Disney Quest which no longer exists was a 5 story arcade. They had 12 Daytona USA machines in a row. I came in 1st place against 11 other drivers, good times!
We (bunch of co-workers) used to play the 8 player hook up at the local Dave and Busters on our lunch break. We would play the 2 race Dinosaur Canyon, and whoever was below 4th place after the first lap would turn their cars around and cause mayhem in the opposite direction.
@@Rationalific Yeah, John D from Arcade 1up loves Daytona as well so there will probably be a home arcade version of it in the future. Daytona was co-engineered by Lockheed Martin the Aerospace and mililtary contract company behind stealth plane technology most people do not know that and Daytona was part of Segas most successful arcade line the Sega model 1-3 series which brought in over 3.5 billion dollars in revenue for Sega.

As much as I love Shenmue and it pains me to say this...that's what happens when you give someone a blank cheque to make a game and that game can't possibly recoup that money spent on it. Pains me to say that as I do love Shenmue but yeah, that's the sad story of Yu Suzuki's final days at SEGA. As much as I love Shenmue, it really was the final nail in the coffin for the company in many regards and things were never the same for SEGA after that. Once that game came and failed to catch on, it was clear SEGA were pulling the purse strings tighter and it's clear they lost faith in Yu a little bit.
Psy-Phi not only tested poorly. It looked primitive too, considering it was running on the Lindbergh board. It was embarrassing to see it running on the same hardware powering Virtua Fighter 5.
I regard Yu Suzuki as the greatest games designer of all time but Shenmue..did nothing for me (outside of the playable arcade games). I also link Shenmue with the demise of Sega so it's couldn't be any more bittersweet.
I'd love to see Sega start developing smaller games in VR. Bring back all of thier old titles an ips. I hope this channel grows until TH-cam collapses under the sheer volume of views haha. I love my class Sega games! Keep up the great work SegaLord.
It's unfortunate that Yu Suzuki lost his way by the end of his tenure at Sega. I always thought of him as Sega's Miyamoto. A creative driving force behind the company.
There's no other division or even studio that can compare to AM2, they really were way ahead of everyone, you embarked on a very difficult mission having to pick just 10 games. Great video, as always.
Fighters Megamix is in my all-time top 10. When I clicked I was hoping it was on here, and you did not disappoint! All of these old AM2 games are super nostalgic to me.
Outrun 2, without question, is one of my all time favourite games. It actually inspired me to travel to California, it has such an idyllic feel to it. And the soundtrack...the Euro remixes are so damn awesome!
Shenmue I & II are probably my favorite games of all time. Your Dreamcast Christmas 2000 video brought back some great memories, not sure I'll EVER be blown away by a video game like I was the first time I put Shenmue in the Dreamcast that Christmas.
Simply the best. I have stop playing or barely re-play games on different systems, except for my Dreamcast, where i still play most of these titles to this very day and if was not for these beautiful videos, i will never realize how time flies thank you so much. Outrun is my favourite as well i play the pc version
We will never see times like back in the 90s with the arcades, and home consoles. It was amazing to witness the tech develop, great video great memories. I have Virtua Fighter 2,Fighting Vipers, Daytona on the PS3 but would love Sega to bring out a Sega Models Collection on current consoles
Man, when I got Shenmue it absolutely blew me and my friends away. The level of being able to interact with so many things in the world, the day/night cycle and how all the citizens had a routine, the story, the graphics... I remember reading in the Dreamcast magazine that there were 8 games planned which seemed unbelievable, but I was pumped. We all know how that turned out.
Outrun 2sp is my absolute favorite racer and AM2 game of all time! I would have personally replaced two of the fighters listed with one of the three Afterburner games and Space Harrier. For me, seeing those two titles in their respective motion deluxe cabinets was a mind blowing experience as a kid. Great list, keep them coming!
I absolutely love Outrun 2. The controls are some of the best I’ve experienced in a racing game, the visuals are great, and I love the soundtrack. Glad to see it getting some love as not many talk about it.
I was going to say Gunblade NY, but I guess that was the AM3 team. That game left such a standing impression on me with its loud, bassy presence in the nearby bowling alley arcade on a typical Friday night as a teenager. I remember playing most of these games in the arcade as well. Good times.
Takes me back to sega saturn days, AM2 games made it feel ahead of its time like playing arcade games at home. Loved me some virtua cop 1 and 2 and virtua fighters games
This was a fantastic and super genuine top 10. Whenever my friends and I saw that AM2 logo appear on any game we were about to try for the first time, we knew it was gonna be awesome.
I remember seeing Virtua Fighter 3 in the arcades and being hugely impressed with the step-up it was, graphics wise. Won't argue its importance over other titles on the list, but that feeling sticked for years to come and was synonymous with just how great AM2 was for the arcades. Great times! ^^
Funny how you're stories mirrored mine with some AM2 games. I can remember being amazed and just watching Virtua Fighter, VF2, Virtua Racing and Daytona. Sega had the magic back then.
Not only were AM2 games awesome, but their presentation in the arcades were amazing as well (their look, voices, etc.). I would spend nearly as much time watching the attract mode as I did playing them.
I grew up with Nintendo at home but when I was at the arcade it was all about Sega. And that was what inspired to start collecting Sega consoles and really appreciate what Sega has done for the gaming industry.
The arcade frame rates was what pulled you in. You could match visual style but the frame rates added a magic I didn't understand for decades. Sega's power was it's sometimes actually godlike music.
SLX delivers!! Just 2 hours, over 100 comments and almost 4k views. Man, please PLEASE keep bring us back to the arcades, all the platforms, the gems, the sega gaming goodness we're waiting for!! I wish you can start from the begining, through the last days of pumping out its last monuments
Great video and nice to see you mention Shenmue! Can't say I agree with the top 2, but that just shows how incredible AM2 were. It's nice to see some love for Scud Race :)
Sega am2 produced some of the best games of my youth the amount of coinage me and my friends threw in to Daytona, v fighter and v cop is beyond belief great video dude.
AM2 is probably the main reason most of us stayed in love with Sega. For me, Virtua Fighter is the franchise I still play from them. Astonishing to see that VF5 Final Shodown still holds great after years, and IMO it's the supreme 3D fighter of all time. EDIT: yea i realize most of these games had Yu Suzuki involved, but it was shocking for me to see that the current AM2 was able to keep the Virtua Fighter feeling and vision. I am still waiting for the newer VF revision teased months ago. EDIT2: HOLY CRAP HOW COULD I FORGET I AM REVISITING SHENMUE 1 AND 2 BEFORE REPLAYING SHENMUE 3 AGAIN
So many greats! I myself absolutely love Outrun 2, I still play it on my OG Xbox occasionally. Scud Racer was fun in the arcade it’s a shame there wasn’t a home port. Daytona USA will fondly be remembered as the perfect arcade party game with friends, good times indeed 🙂🏁
Fun video to see. Of course, my list would look different if I put one together, but this is all opinion and you've stated why you like these games very well. Nice to see Fighters Megamix on there. That really was something amazing back in 1997 and was one of my favorite games on the Saturn overall. I picked up the import version in the spring of that year along with Dragon Force for a week vacation from both school and my family(my grandparents were with me). It was a great week of gaming. Last thing, I am totally with you on how amazing Virtua Fighter 2 was when it came out and seeing that bridge never got old in those days. I was sad to see it removed from the Saturn version, but it was an understandable cut, especially considering the general high quality of that port otherwise.
This was a good one. The decision not to port Daytona 2 to anything was a baffling one. It's hard to imagine a 1st party in dire straits just letting a sequel to one of their biggest properties just languishing like that. Scud Racer has always seemed like it would have been another slam dunk. I had forgotten until seeing this, but that 18 Wheeler cab with the big horizontal steering wheel was everywhere back in the day. One of many, many, Sega titles which would have had an automatic sequel at most other publishers.
Right in the nostalgia. I still enjoy them scaler games from time to time. I just wish M2 would have ported more of them - their 3DS output was exceptional.
I don´t know why but everytime when i hear Sega AM2 i automatically think of Virtua Fighter. And i agree a Sega AM2 collection for current consoles would be awesome.
Outrun 2 was the game i spent the most time playing on the Arcade with my friends we got pretty good at it even strangers would gather behind just to watch us xD During school lunch break we would always go and play it.
Thanks for all the great videos. Being the same age, and owning most of the same games and systems I sure enjoy watching them. Time, eyes and coordination are not what they used to be haha.
Virtua cop 2 is still one of my favorite saturn titles, god knows how many hrs i put in that game. I know what your saying about the arcade version, but im just a hardcore sega saturn fan. Thats the only excuse i need lol
I didn't jump to either Nintendo or Sony.... But I also didn't have much of a choice as I was a rather poor kid and stuck with a Genesis until I jumped over exactly where Sega Fans belonged.... On Xbox. I'm 31,so I grew up along side the Genesis, it was the first home console I ever played, and it was the first one given to me as a gift by age 6 or 7. By 13 in 2002 I got the Xbox with Sega GT 2002 + Jet set Radio Future and I was also a Street Tagger. So how perfect was that?! I didn't attend the last day of school for middle school to stay home and enjoy the new Xbox, and I remember when all my friends whom were also Taggers came over and had their minds blown with Jet Set. So funny! Everyone remembers Jet Set as some sort of Exteme sport game..... Na. Shit is true to the spirit of Graffiti. After that, all the PS2 friends bought Xboxes, and the Halo Lan Parties kicked in when I got a Wired Router from one of my uncle's... That was like 2003-2004. Then come 2005 I got Xbox Live and now its 2021 and now I have some of the biggest Sega games on my 3DS in 3D. What a time to be alive!
Best of times then! DAYTONA USA was love at first sight, for me! Then came the Sega Rally Championship! I use the Am2 & 3 emulators, but the only thing I miss is a "lightgun" gun type.... Well said my friend, well said....
Times of pure joy Sega's cabinets were beyond your wildest fantasy as a kid I mean where else could you ride a motorbike or drive a car then fly an helicopter or jet fighter! Sega(am2) are what dreams were made of.

Outrun 2, without question, is one of my all time favourite games. It actually inspired me to travel to California, it has such an idyllic feel to it. And the soundtrack...the Euro remixes are so damn awesome!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. These games will never be forgotten by those who grew up on them.
Love your channel dude, I'm an old school SEGA fan and there isnt enough content for us on TH-cam.- breath of fresh air!
I agree, Outrun 2 and Coast 2 Coast are awesome, my favorite racing game still.
Good times.
AM2 and the classic Sonic games really represent Sega at its best. Thank you for another incredibly fun video!
I love the specificity of these topics. Thanks for posting such excellent content.
7:50 - Switch version shown
I remember seeing Virtua Fighter 3 in the arcades and being hugely impressed with the step-up it was, graphics wise. Won't argue its importance over other titles on the list, but that feeling sticked for years to come and was synonymous with just how great AM2 was for the arcades. Great times! ^^
What a great episode! This really brought me back to my arcade days!
Its criminal that this channel doesn't have more subscribers
AM2 was god tier
and also AM1 + AM7 (Overworks)
This was the best episode so far! You are a classic gaming God!
Great channel, man. I'm a huge Sega and Nintendo fan (we exist!). I love Sega's arcade pedigree. Keep it up the great work!
The arcade frame rates was what pulled you in. You could match visual style but the frame rates added a magic I didn't understand for decades. Sega's power was it's sometimes actually godlike music.
Sega really needs to release a compilation of AM2 games on current consoles.
Always quality content from you. But this really hit me in the nostalgia. I miss arcades so much. Thanks for this!
That final words just brought some tears to my eyes....sega greatness should be never forgoten...😪
Daytona 2 is now home as part of yakuza gaiden
Great video and nice to see you mention Shenmue! Can't say I agree with the top 2, but that just shows how incredible AM2 were. It's nice to see some love for Scud Race :)
King of Route 66 is hard to find here in North America. PS2 Exclusive.
I don't think it sold well. Might explain why it was never brought to anything else.
I just checked eBay while watching the vid, it's around 30 bucks on average.
For a moment I felt letdown Virtual On didn't come up, then I remembered that was AM3, not AM2.
Yeah man, Sega had numerous divisions and its easy to confuse them all.
@@SegaLordX yea, i was thinking same thing for Sega Rally... then i realized was AM3 too
@@Dave-oc9zg I was thinking the same about The House of the Dead 2... and then... when you know the story ;)
Loved me some Desert Tank back in the day the 12 inch sub in each cabinet really added to the feel of that one
Lol the ad @ 1:39 says 180K polygons per minute... I think that is supposed to be per second
I love the passion in your words to this games, great channel!
I have to agree with Outrun 2 being up there. It captures all the essence of what an arcade game is in my mind.
I don´t know why but everytime when i hear Sega AM2 i automatically think of Virtua Fighter.
And i agree a Sega AM2 collection for current consoles would be awesome.
Your channel is gold. So glad I found it!
Outrun 2 looks fun af
Outrun 2 was the game i spent the most time playing on the Arcade with my friends we got pretty good at it even strangers would gather behind just to watch us xD During school lunch break we would always go and play it.
Thanks for all the great videos. Being the same age, and owning most of the same games and systems I sure enjoy watching them. Time, eyes and coordination are not what they used to be haha.
An AM2 arcade collection set for Steam with between 8 and 10 games included would be just wonderful; probably won't happen but a guy can wish.
Virtua cop 2 is still one of my favorite saturn titles, god knows how many hrs i put in that game. I know what your saying about the arcade version, but im just a hardcore sega saturn fan. Thats the only excuse i need lol
A lot of great games there. Scud Race and Daytona are my personal favourites of the bunch. 🏁
Space Harrier is my favorite AM2 game, next to After Burner, Shenmue 2 and Fighters Megamix
A fantastic list of AM2 games! There are a couple I had not played, based on my knowledge I fully agree. I was playing Virtua Racing Sega Ages on Switch this last weekend such a fantastic version that puts it above the 32X!
Gave this a like a minute into the video due to the use of Shun Di’s VF2 music. One of my favorite fighting game level tunes ever.
X. YOU ARE CLASSIC. Loved this episode
