A Master Class by a Master! I was lucky enough to attend a Jazz Camp at Manhattan School of Music in 92, and Phil was there. He showed us how he would sit at the piano with his Saxophone, play a two hand voicing on the Piano with the sustain pedal held down, then Improvise on his Sax until the Overtones died out! This was how he Practiced! You can almost hear this in his Solo. He also remarked that to properly teach Jazz, one should load the Students on to a bus, drive them for 19 Hours, let them off to play for three hours, then load them back on to the bus, and drive another 19 Hours, play, rinse, repeat Do this for a month. I did this with a Country band for about 9 months. If I was playing Jazz I might have kept at it, but if your heart ain't in what your playing, the music won't sustain you, and life on the road is a Soul Sucking experience otherwise. Great Solo and Great Transcription!
What a great person you are! Tx for all the great material 🙏🎷
