    just a tip for foreigners: you DO NOT want to break a finns trust you will never get it back even if they are your best friend....

    • @AleksiHimself
      @AleksiHimself  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point! Trust is important.

    • @loredanab4389
      @loredanab4389 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AleksiHimself Does it work the other way around as well? I mean if you tell a Finn "hey, you acted in a nasty way, I'm not sure I can still trust that you mean what you say" will they back off or go away forever since they think they broke your trust and that you will never want to interact with them again?

    • @kilppa
      @kilppa 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@loredanab4389 That depends on the way they were nasty. If they did betray your trust, it is going to happen again. Integrity is big in finnish culture, but then there are assholes, so it's quite polarized.

    I'm gonna add my lil list: 1. They are well-educated in school to react with reason to what they hear/read, unlike my fellow Romanians who get emotional about everything and cannot use logic even in the most common of situations.
    2. Their babies get a box with items they'll need right after birth; all the babies, irrespective of their parents' income.
    3. They're humble and even famous people like rockstars or the president will speak normally to you if you meet them and do normal stuff. Amorphis were the first Finns I ever met and after the first show where I saw them live, they came out into the club to have a beer and chill with the fans.
    4. Reading is a totally normal thing there, you're neither special, nor a boring geek if you do it. Where I live I am afraid most people will think you're either or.
    5. They don't complain about difficult stuff and they teach me how to be more resilient and just work harder for what I want.
    6. They're active and seem to be spending a lot of time outdoors.

    • @AleksiHimself
      @AleksiHimself  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great list!

    • @kilppa
      @kilppa 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have a very romanticized view on finns. Number two is right. Number three on your list is correct, it's a mortal sin in finland to be boastful. Four is correct, it would be weird not to be for any developed country.

    • @loredanab4389
      @loredanab4389 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kilppa 3/6 are correct, so why wouldn't it match reality? I have seen flaws with Finns as well, it's just that when I think of Finns as a nation, there are quite many things which they are better at and my nation could learn from. But when I think of each Finn I know, I see him/her as an individual and it doesn't matter much whether they're a Finn or not. They're just people with qualities and flaws.

    I’m hoping to visit Finland someday especially to look up where my grandparents came from because all four of my grandparents were born in Finland and I’m second generation American living in Upper Michigan probably the largest concentration of people of Finnish decent. In fact the the town of Hancock, MI 20 miles south of me the street signs are bilingual English and Finnish as well as the home of Finlandia University. Unfortunately my skill in speaking Finnish is very poor it’s something I really need to work on before visiting Finland. I appreciate your videos on Finland they are very educational keep the good work.
