How to Connect Your Honda to Apple CarPlay

- In today's video, Justin Thompson explains how to connect your phone to Apple CarPlay via USB. He also demonstrates how to navigate Apple CarPlay with voice commands or the touchscreen.
Apple CarPlay allows you to use and manage basic phone functions hands-free through the infotainment display in the vehicle. To launch Apple CarPlay, simply connect your phone via a USB cable and allow the vehicle access to the phone. Be sure to use a supported USB cord so that the vehicle can access the media in your phone.
Apple CarPlay can perform many of the same functions as an iPhone, such as give turn-by-turn directions, make calls, send and receive text messages, and play music, podcasts or audiobooks.
Apple CarPlay can be controlled and accessed through the vehicles touchscreen or via the buttons on the steering wheel. Siri Voice Control with Apple CarPlay is designed specifically for driving scenarios for calling, texting, and accessing other apps.
Siri can read, reply to, and send text messages for you so that you never have to pick up your phone. You can tell Siri who you want to text and what the text will say and she will compose and send the message for you. You can also tell her where you want to go and a route will be calculated.
Apple CarPlay allows you to access your music library and other supported apps like Spotify, Audible, MLB At Bat, and Waze. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

Hi Justin, This is very helpful. A couple questions:: If I want to listen to the radio, not Sirius, how do I do that? Is there a knob to turn it on or do I use a voice command or both? Do I need to have my phone plugged in to use apple car play-you mentioned wireless-how does that work? I have a 2019 Honda Civic so it might be different. Thanks for your help!

I have a 2020 Honda Pilot EX-L. Should the steering wheel controls for the phone operate while using CarPlay? Only the voice command button seems to work using CarPlay. Using bluetooth, the phone call button and hang up buttons work, but they have zero function while using CarPlay. Is that normal?

What if you want to make the music a bit softer, and the directions to where you are going, a bit louder? Does the music stop when the directions are being told?
Usually the music will automatically turn down while directions are being given!
Why does Apple CarPlay lockup on Honda's?
I have been using apple carplay in my honda for several months. I love it. Then one day it just stopped working. The USB cable works I used it in the house and I even brought a new one to the car. I've turned my phone off and on. I've made sure that apple carplay is highlighted green as an allowed app on my phone. What can I do? This happened one other time and I had to go back to the Honda dealer. I'd like to be able to fix it myself. What do you suggest?

The phone has to stay plugged in for this model! There are some 2021 Honda models that are able to run Wireless Apple CarPlay, like the 2021 Accord EX-L.

No, an iPod will only be able to play audio. Carplay is specifically for mirroring apps from your phone

When I make a call using Apple Carplay, I can hear the other party on the call but they cannot hear my voice when I'm talking. Any idea what I should do? Thanks
It happened to me and it was the volume. Just press + a few times. It’s a simple thing but that was my issue 🤣🤣
@@nancyrivera3417 Is your solution for situations where you cannot hear the other party? My issue is the opposite and the other party cannot hear my voice so I doubt turning up my volume impacts their ability to hear me

For this model, yes! But there are newer models that are capable of wireless Apple CarPlay.
i JUST PURCHASED A HONDA ACCORD HYBRID WITH THAT NEW SCREEN OF YOURS,, FIRST i WAS ABLE TO USE THE PHONE AND MAPS ON MY PHONE, SOON i LOST MAPS, THAN I LOST MY PHONE, WAS ABLE TO PUT MY PHONE BACK, AN APPLE E-PHONE, BUT I'M TOTALLY UNABLE TO LOAD CARPLAY ON THAT SCREEN OF YOURS, I LOOKED AT YOUR VIDEO, NOWHERE NEAR DOES IT LOOK LIKE WHAT YOU'VE EXPLAINED, STARTING WITH THE PHONE ITSELF, KEEPS LOADING PHONE ON BLUETOOTH, BUT WHEN IT GETS TO LOADING THE CARPLAY THING IT KEEPS SAYING NOTHING IS CONNECTED.

The system on the new 2022 civic is so slow, I’m having problems connecting it wirelessly and Bluetooth. It takes for ever to connect or sometimes it does not connect at all.

It works on the Civic's as well. I have the 2018 model and it works just fine on mine.

@@Perfection100 Not wirelessly but you can with your phone charger. I think to have the wireless Apple CarPlay, you gotta buy the 2021 or 2022. I have a 2020 Si now and it still doesn’t have wireless Apple CarPlay. Works fine when I plug my phone in though.
@@riley1733 Thanks. Sorry to disturb you but, did CarPlay work when you turn on the radio or when a USB was in the port? I mean like different media playing?
@@Perfection100 No problem. And no worries. Can’t use CarPlay with the radio or a USB plugged in. Your phone has to be plugged into your vehicle’s port. There’s a spot to plug it in on the driver’s side. When I had my 2018 Civic, Apple CarPlay would activate automatically if I plugged my phone in.
Also it will not work if you have an IPOD plugged into another USB port. You have to disconnect your IPOD or other device so CARPLAY is the only thing plugged in. Took me 5 hours to figure this out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kept getting "NO DEVICE" when my IPHONE was plugged into the CARPLAY port! So try with your IPhone being plugged into the CARPLAY port, and.................. no other devices plugged into any of the other USB ports!
