Did you know that in Black Swan... Natalie Portman Did A Year Of Ballet Training To Prepare For The Role, but paid for the training out of her own pocket until the film found investors. because the budget is too low. After the film was released, the film earned 33 crores dollars and Natalia Portman won the Oscar for best actress in a Leading Role.

I think she gave up having her own trailer so the crew could have an on duty medic just in case on of the ballet dancers got hurt
She admitted to this. She had a rib injury and there was no medic, so she said out loud “Well my god, get rid of my trailer if that’s the case” when they explained their tight budget, and the next day her trailer was gone and they got a medic😭
Eu conheci agr esse tau de ganso preto sla mais eu gostei eu gosto de música! E dança ❤❤❤❤❤❤💃

Lovely lady. But for the most difficult parts such as this, she had a ballet dancer that had trained for over 20 years as a double. Her face was digitally added. If you look closely you can see it. All the close ups when she danced were her however.
It’s sad that they never credited her.
She should have gotten what stunt doubles get. Usually they get credits on the end credit scene
Yeah that’s a rumor.
Here is a qoute from the director
"Here is the reality," Aronofsky said in a statement released Monday through studio Fox Searchlight. "I had my editor count shots. There are 139 dance shots in the film -- 111 are Natalie Portman untouched, 28 are her dance-double Sarah Lane. If you do the math, that's 80 percent Natalie Portman."
She didnt get just "any" stunt double, we are talking about Sarah Lane, principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre. Not a small name out there, she should have had more credit.
ya this face doesn’t look like it’s exerting and effort
I think it’s important that you acknowledge there was an actual ballerina who had been trained since she was a little girl that did the majority of the dancing in that film. I grew up dancing, some of the best years of my life. But you can’t do those combinations and choreography on only a year of training, it takes months alone to learn how to to balance on pointe shoes properly, let alone do those turns. I’ll believe that Natalie did the barre exercises and some of the easier moves.
Everyone is weird … of COURSE she wasn’t doing the hard stuff, but the overall demeanour and stature, grace and movement of a ballet dancer she defo learned. You people are ridiculous “she cannot do these moves after a year” tell us more SHERLOCK
she legit did 80% of the baller scenes tho and yall won’t acknowledge that
Thanx for saying that. You need to train a whole life to become a real ballerina not one year, the fact that Natalie never acknowledged and admitted publicly that another great ballerina, a real one, “borrowed” her body and technique to dance mostly all of the dancing bits is just disappointing and as a professional dancer, it makes me furious.
@@bucciba I danced for 16 years while I was growing up, my company did Swan Lake as our spring show my senior year and there were combinations and techniques we were struggling with, and we were trained from the time we were toddlers. So no, it’s not very realistic that an actress who trained for 6 months to a year could master them and preform them perfectly, it makes me mad that more people don’t realize this.
@@factsonfacts9337her arms and demeanor and “artistry”
Was not impressive sorry. There are like 2 scenes of ger dancing en flat. I can tell when it’s her. Shoulders lifted and neck tight, she’s terrible at moving her arms. Walks awkwardly in the pointe shoes en flat. She doesn’t look at all like a dancer sorry
Damn, whoever was the stunt double did a flawless job. Everyone's passion & talent got this film to the heights it went. Kudos to the hard work!
The ballerina's name is Sarah Lane. Indeed, her performance in the Black Swan movie was exquisite
I dont think natalie Portman could do those turns in pointe shoes after a year lol.
she ABSOLUTELY could not...hence the REAL ballerina as the stunt double
She couldn’t. It takes years of practice.
she was a ballet dancer for many many years as a teen before she gave it up for acting
@@tylernrcThat's not true i don't know where you heard that.
@@tylernrcshe had a stunt double who they hardly credited and made it seem like Natalie did all the work
She also didn't dance in this shot. Her body double did, and they did CGI face replacement. That was true of almost every wide shot.
Nah her stunt double did the hard work. (Stunt doubles should have their own category in major award shows)
Everyone is weird … of COURSE she wasn’t doing the hard stuff, but the overall demeanour and stature, grace and movement of a ballet dancer she defo learned. You people are ridiculous “she cannot do these moves after a year” tell us more SHERLOCK
@@factsonfacts9337 who here are you arguing with...?
@@factsonfacts9337her feet were sickled and her hands were stiff. When they said she did 1 year of ballet I believed it when I saw the closeups but she was not dancing. The fact she mastered the dance in an year was a major part in her winning an Oscar for the movie
I agree- they should have their own category.
Then make one instead of complaining on youtube
There was a controversy surrounding this because for the movie's promo (and this short) they only stated that Natalie did a year a ballet training and ended up winning Best Actress, implying she mastered it in that timespan for the movie, never mentioning that most of the dancing was done by a body double (a professional ballerina). Plus, it was a massive part of the Oscar campaign to get her that award in the first place. You do catch small glimpses of Natalie's dancing (mostly small footwork during ballet warm-up class and some arms in close-ups) which tells you that, yes, she was trying, but she was leagues from anything close to what the promo led you to believe, often having sickled feet or tense hands (big no-no's in ballet seen in beginners). Once the body double spoke out about being shushed from the spotlight and credit, there was a huge smear campaign against her, with the movie's director/press responding that she was put into the movie's credit sequence and that no one ever said there wasn't a body double, accusing the ballerina, Sarah Lane, of wanting more attention and being bitter. Even now in the video clips where she spoke out, the comment sections seem to be mostly against her. It's a shame, given both Natalie and Sarah were excellent in their roles, and Natalie's acting was incredible on its own to win Best Actress that year without deceptive implications.
Every Oscar that is ever won is partly because the studio or the film producers invested a lot of money on trying to get that Oscar, not only Natalie’s. An Oscar means at least an additional $10 million in revenue!
There's never been any implications that Natalie's Oscar was won due to her dancing....
You and anyone else's lack of comprehension doesn't change that.
She (Sarah) literally said she deserved that Oscar too 🙄 i get the movie dance movements are important but Natalie actually acted other scenes and emotions on the film, it wasn't given to her just because of her dance moves.
FR, I hate how dumb everyone is, the video said she took classes to prepare, not that she danced all those difficult parts.@@melissabarbosa-gx7np
damn that was so structured and informative what are you ? a journalist?
I think people seem to forget that she had a body double. She also forgot and never gave credit to the dancer that made her look so good.
Came to the comments to point this out. Very manipulative and underhanded. It didn't come out until after she had. The award given for this role was largely due to all of the work we had been told she did on her body and TO DANCE ALL OF HER ON SCENES.
@@summerdais325do you know that’s why she received the Oscar though? Her acting alone was Oscar worthy
@lissie3669 I can't judge the film. I want to see it and will...some day. 😆 I have a mile long list of movies I want to watch. Anyhow i'm only likely sharing the thoughts of the dancing community. I can't remember what I said in response. But, I do know that they didn't portray this accurately in the media; the dancer came out later.
Totally concur, as has been documented the ballet dancer who doubled for her said it is impossible to accept that what took her a lifetime to perfect could be achieved by one year of training.
@nigels3205 ❤️ 💙 💜 This doesn't take away from natalie's accomplished, but it does put it in the proper perspective. What she accomplished in a year is amazing, but to pretend that she had that level of professional ability in a year. Is misleading and dangerous.
Got to love that AI, one minute she's Natalie the next minute she's Natalia
I was looking for this comment. I was like, "Who's Natalia?"😂
Croes dollars?
@@billydeeukcrores is a unit value used in India. It means 10 million.
She didn't do the ballet pointe work. It was Sarah Lane. In this scene it wasn't her dancing, they put her face on the body of the dancer.
She only trained so she could look like a ballet dancer in the close up shots and all.
A lot of people dissing the original dancer like she should just be glad she got paid and was named.
But the point is that she didn't mind not being very recognized, however the director and others
disrespected her and the art of dancing, by telling her not to talk or do any interviews because people had to believe it was all Natalie, and spreading around that all it took was a year of training.
She wants some respect that's all. Also the director said 80% was Natalie because he was counting head only shots too.
Even if she did a year of ballet you can't have does perfect movements in one year, you have to have more experience.
Of course she didn’t lol that was never lied about. In the behind the scenes of the movie, they clearly show that a profession dancer did the wide shot moves and her face was CGI’ed on it. It’s not a secret. It was mostly to look like a credible dancer in the closer shots.
@@gudulpif264 yeah but in this video they don't mention it making it seem like she only needed a year to dance like that, I was just pointing that it's ridiculous to think she only needed a year to dance professionally. So you can laugh at yourself lol.
@@Fati.Ferreiro why would I laugh at myself?
She had a body double that. She didn't think when she won that award. Because they CG i'd her head onto a body double. That was the actual ballerina dancer and she takes credit for her work
What are you even drooling about? Who said she had perfect movements?? You just heard what you wanted to hear. She took classes on the subject she was acting on. That's it. Ffs
The dancer that really did it even exposed Natalie for posing like she really danced in these scenes
Welcome to the movie industry
The fact they didn't credit Sarah Lane and said Natalie was able to dance like this after a year completely defeats the whole point of the movie
Nobody is dancing like that after only a year of ballet training 😂
Yeah, she learned the basics for close ups. Naturally she had a double for the choreo
A lot of people have basic bullet skills. Then add a year of professional training and personal interest into the sport. Also she was very young back then.
You are correct, the dancer double is Sarah Lane of American ballet theater
It was a stunt double- closeups were her but that's it😮
I think Isabella Boylston did stunt double work as the ballerina
Never eat raspberries!
Its in the contract, that sara girl should keep her mouth close
Idk why sara was mad, she knew Natalie won the oscar because of her acting skills not just for the dance scenes
Did you know that that’s literally what a stunt double does? Ur acting like she got swindled or hoodwinked… she literally signed up to do that, lmao…
U think Sara expected to be recognized and like praised and treated like the lead actor? Of course not… if she did she would’ve been an actor and not a ballet dancer for 22 years………
Sorry but your comment sounds super bitter as if you’re butthurt that she didn’t get credit, when she herself is 99% likely not butthurt and literally knew exactly what job she was signing up for
Trust me, when she signed that deal, they didn’t trick her by telling her “you’re gonna be a star! All your dancing is gonna be credited to you!”
Also…. You said “they CGI Natalie’s race over Sara’s dancing body”
….. do you expect them to leave Sara’s face instead….? ? I’m so confused lol.
I guess you either don’t understand the job of a stunt double or just don’t respect it at all.
She had a professional Ballet Dancer do all her stunt dancing.
Paying for ballet lessons for a year is a drop in the ocean compared to what she is worth 😂
none of the dancing scenes in the movie are even her either. she had a body double
@yarajennn okay, but what dance scenes were those? Cuts to her standing on one foot not doing anything 😂? Natalie did not do the heavy lifting whatsoever
But still it’s nice to know she wasn’t someone who demanded to have the training paid for. I think most actors who put in their own effort toward movies are amazing.
I know it’s like saying did you know she paid for her own gym membership for a year … like ok
@@SDSyphernot NONE of them
ONLY A YEAR? You can’t tell me she’s only done a year of ballet I’ve been doing it for 8 years and I JUST balanced my triple 😭 ✋
I dance for 20 years. You can kearn dance in one year even Ballet, but not professionell
She didn't do all the dances apparently, there was an actual ballerina doubling for her
She did not actually dance these sections. A professional dancer named Sarah Lane did.
Triples I can only land them if I'm lucky
Don’t you think if she could do this after 2 years, all newspapers would have called her “The best talented most genius in ballet ever”? She didn’t. It’s her double who have trained 20 years.
The entire scene you see here is her body double , an actual ballerina , with Natalie’s face placed on top in cgi
That's pretty obvious. Who would think after just a year of training one would have that amont of control? 😮
BUT SHE DID NOT DANCE THIS SECTION OF THE FILM. This is Sarah Lane. Natalie did an amazing job and I love her respect for our art, but she could not perform at the necessary skill level which is why Sarah was hired.
There was a second dancer, too, Kim, only she elected not to make a big stink about not getting credit ...
She didn't dance, she acted that she can dance at that level by faking arms and head motions till the body replacement of the professional dancer that did dance
@@noonerulesmeBLUD THIS SECTION, sure. (I mean, duh.) But, there are sections of this film she did dance.

The movie was not just about dancing , but the human psyche and how the art of ballet ( or any art or position for that matter) can become an obsession to maintain and to always try harder and do better and look better until it becomes a madness. Natalie portrayed this metamorphosis of madness perfectly.
Otherwise is impossible. Playing a balerina isnt as delicate as people think. Its perfection and it hurts like hell untile it is

From all scenes she dance just in two. Both in the class. All scenes on the stage and performence where dance by Sarah Lane - a professional ballet dancer from New York!
Nope. If the camera is cutting the dancer's feet off, it's Natalie. If you see feet on pointe, it's Sarah or Kim. However, Natalie does bourree a couple of times in the film ... once at the very beginning and once on the podium at the end.
Uh, no. Scroll up and you will see the official count by the filmmakers as to who they used when.
FALSE FALSE FALSE, this is just misleading, the whole dancing scenes were performed by her stunt double. It's so sad that no credit or at least a mention was provided to this lovely dancer. So happy for Natalia
I love how she grows her wings during the dance
But she used a body double for the dance scenes....
@em em No. Most of the full body shots were done by a body double. Natalie only did upper body stuff where she's waving her arms and stuff. It's all there on TH-cam. Go look for it.

NATALIA Portman….I lost it LMAOOOO
I could definitely tell. She did that so well. Good for her. She played the part perfectly. I was impressed.
... it was perfect ...
Unforgettable end.
Natalie Portman's one year of training was far and away NOT enough for her to execute the true ballet steps. Sara Lane was the stunt/dancing double; she was not the star. She was paid as the stunt double; I've never understood what her issue was with not getting reams of publicity and praise on her stunt role.
Isabella Boylston didn't raise a big stink about Red Sparrow.
Someone said the director stopped her from doing interviews, which is wrong. But...I wouldn't expect star level praise if I were her.
She had to do what she had to do. She’s an amazing human being, every movie has its tricks, and fantasies. Not everyone gets recognition, it’s a job they accepted from the get go!!
A simple sentence yet sums up perfectly this particular discussion 💖. Movies tell stories and performers are professional story tellers. To make a movie of this magnitude and enchantment it takes a team of special, talented insightful people. The movie centers around the magic of dance and everyone together had amazing chemistry, the studio knew it and worked hard for its recognition. I am of the same belief that others have shared stating there really really should be an award category for stunt doubles, dancers, singers all those people who stay in the shadows. they deserve a category and recognition big time. But the studios and the public BOTH know that if that happens the magic in the movie dissolves. Remember the controversy after Flash dance?💖
The way she gains more feathers with each turn

But she talked about it anyway
Black Swan is a Masterpiece.❤❤❤❤
Most ballerinas train from toddlerhood onward. It's not impossible to start older, but it is more difficult because your body hasn't been shaped for ballet.
She had a ballet stunt PROFESSIONAL Dancer for the movie. She did some of the arms postures. That's all. But they sold like she learned everything in a year. Ballet Career takes 10 years of studies Monday to Saturday and some Sundays for rehearsal, 4 to 7 hours a day and then years professionally to become a great dancer. I am a professional ballet dancer and it's just sad what they tried to sell here. Not okay.
Pls correct this she also had a body double remember that she revealed this later that most of the shots were of the body double . It’s an insult to dancers who trained years for this. Mila Kunis on the other hand has been ballet trained since she was very young
