Live Life Untucked, #WorkHardPlayHarder
Jon Peter is a very humble person - my lot of respect for him!
Awesome how a simple desire to utilize available material, design for stability and strength, and minimize unnecessary cost, gets rewarded with a beautiful creation. Fun to watch.
Simple and elegant. The design lets the wood speak for itself. Vertical grain douglas fir and cherry also go well together. Both darken with age. I used Waterlox, finished with paste wax on a headboard I made using these two species. Thanks for your commitment to the woodworking community.
Thanks John! A great alternative lifestyle to the "vanila" world so many have fallen into by convenience and mega stores.
I could send you an old growth redwood post.
Thanks! I appreciate the offer but don’t know where I’d put it my shop is so small and I’m planning a big clean up this su
*Jon Peters Art & Home* My woodworking journey began in 1978 when my wife agreed that I could buy woodworking equipment and work for myself. I did some weekend classes at the Minnesota Woodworkworker's Store back in the 80's. Finewoodworking wanted me to do a video series back then.
In 2013 I helped a local Architect become Architect of the Year in the US. A few years earlier my wife let me buy some new equipment: an Alaskan Mill and a Stihl 880! I did a couple videos on my channel to inspire the imagination of the viewers who might be checking out my work. I now write in comment sections to inspire young people to pursue their creative passion.
A piece of old growth milled by hand and turned into a beautiful, useful, 21st century artifact by an environmentally conscientious craftsman might inspire the world to value more than Bitcoin, power tools, and vitamins. 😆
Even the hold down clips you make are unbelievably good looking! Great looking table, Jon!
Nice table! I took your recommendation a while back on the wool lube. It took a bit of effort to get it here in Australia, but it is really good stuff and worth the effort. I've lost count of how many great tips I've gained from your videos. Thanks for making the effort to make such high quality videos (and furniture).
Oh, for those Aussies who are interested, Mohawk products are available from Multimaster in Sydney (multimaster.com.au), but make sure you click the links in Jon's description above to get the product info before contacting them, as their web site is a bit lacking in info.
Thanks man! Yeah great stuff
I just upcycled an old hall cabinet, thought it was the bomb, then I watched this, great work Jon.
Very unique design. I think it will be timeless. Excellent piece. Should last for many years. Thanks
Nice design, the complimentary colors of the wood really enhance the look of the piece. Thanks for sharing.
Jon, you were actually the first TH-cam person I started following. This project might be my favorite. It came out beautiful!!!! Very nice job! 👌👍👏 well done my friend.
Thanks Anthony!
What a beautiful design. Simple and yet complex straight lines. Thanks for sharing Jon...
Amazing Table!!! Thank you for the plans, I just built one of these. It is literally drying in the garage right now and I will give it a nice wax finish in a couple of days. I used walnut and ambrosia maple for the "stretcher".
Awesome! If you post it on Instagram and tag me I will share it in a story.
Turned out really nice Jon. For almost no money invested seems like a win win and looks like a fun project. good job.
Might be some of the best looking 2x4s I've ever seen! Such a cool design, the sapele absolutely works
You make it look so easy and that’s a testimony to your skill level! Nice looking table Jon. Straight grain fir is one of my favorites and the Sapele makes a nice contrast. Well done!
I really love the style of that sofa table. I think the contrasting woods looks great.
Really nice Jon I like how the legs are sort of separate from the top.
Crazy - I just cleaned up some "real" 2x4 stock from inside the original porch posts of my 1913 built home. They have these same awesome linear pattern. I was hoping i wouldn't have to waste them on some caveman framing project or hide them within something else. Now I have the perfect project. Only problem is the scarcity of Doug Fir around here. Thank you Jon.
Beautiful table and elegant design. Thanks for the inspiration!
Absolutely beautiful table I know that the Sapele was scrap piece but what a nice touch especially the buttons. Thank you. Take care my friend
Very nice, Jon~! I would not have imagined Sapele & Doug Fir combined in a project, but your design really works and creates an interesting contrast. The home-made clips for holding down the top add a great touch. Excellent job, as usual~! :-)
Thanks!
As always, great work Jon. Thank you for the great content. I always seem to get inspired by watching your work and want to go build something.
That’s awesome thanks
Great looking table Jon. I really like the look of the top, it is amazing how simple woods like fir, and pine, can have such elegant, simple yet beautiful grain. I was given a 45 foot, straight as an arrow, pine tree this past weekend and will be picking it up this week... I can't wait to see what the grain is going to look like.
Great build Jon! Love the choice of wood species used and the fact you used simple joinery methods.
Beautiful Work Jon! I love that little detail on the finishing step using wool paste. I'll try that on my next furniture project :)
Thanks, Jon. I always enjoy your videos. I have no problems with you (and others) having sponsors especially when you have banked credibility through your body of videos.
Great job as always Jon please keep them coming your designs are so cool.
Phenomenal project. Nice work Jon. Always a pleasure watching your videos.
Like it a lot Jon, those angles on the cross brace and the contrast of the wood give it a bit of an oriental feel in my opinion. Nothing wrong with that!
Simply elegant. That turned out great Jon.
I really like that floating look with that Sapele, it gives it a bit of a shadow effect. Nice project!
Jon has made me thing about stuff like that for years. He pairs sapele with fir, which most would not combine. I think they go together nicely.
Very nice man. I’ve done quite a few “rustic” style benches with studs, stains and shou sugi ban finishes. People ask “wow, what wood is that?”. Now everything has to be walnut! 😀
Great job! Nice looking table for designing on the fly.
I really like this style Jon. It came out great!
Wow! I really like this design! Nice job!👍
Excellent Jon seems so easy when you do it. Thanks for posting plans as well.
Very nice project Jon, turned out really great. Thanks for sharing, Paul
The finish looks really nice. Do you have a video on finishing?
No but I’m planning on making on soon
Jon, you always do a great job and I enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for sharing...
Very nice. Here in oz. We have limited finish products!
Nice Jon! It's funny how Douglas Fir may get "sneered" at for woodworking projects because its so often sitting over at the "Big Box Store" as construction lumber......and yet, as you just showed us, and I have seen at home, the grain can be so spectacular.
Makes me want to buy a bunch of tools. Good pace on the instructions.
beautiful build. thanks for always inspiring me as a woodworker.
Very nice John, love the look of clear fir.
What a talent Jon! Beautiful project 👍!
congratulations good job greetings from Patagonia Argentina
As always...stellar project. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks Ben
Nice piece! Really like the happy accident with the sapele.
Definitely a good joinery project, especially for beginners.
I would love to know what prompted the "thumbs downs" for this video.
Jon, this looks like an awesome project, and the different types of joinery is amazing, as well as your signature attention to detail. Thanks again for the high quality videos!
Ha ha :) me too thanks man I appreciate it
Jealousy dude just jealousy... Jon you rock bro
Nice Table Jon , have a nice day !!!.
Super projet.
Toujours beau et précis.
Fantastique.
Merci.
Looks good Jon! I like the style has that modern meets Japanese. Good stuff
John. Thats a nice contrast with the two species! Can i just ask. Where do you buy those fat glue bottles you use. I love them???
Very nice build! Thanks for the video!
Wow! As always a perfect professional peace of art
Hi Jon, yet another great project. If I may ask a 'beginners' question: when you added the sapele detail at 6.06, you used biscuits and glue. Is there any possibility of differential expansion between the two different timbers, say in times of high humidity?
Nice work Jon. I like the wooden clips.
Super cool project! Turned out beautiful..
Looks gr8 John and inexpensive project super work as usual
Beautiful work as always Jon! Love that you used Sapele, one of my favorite woods.................. :)
Another good one Jon. Being from the West Coast Canada I Love the Douglas Fir. With the finish will it still darken over time?
Hi Jon, great tutorial! I am finishing a kitchen with 3/4” VG fir ply and was wondering if following your go to finish protocol might be a good choice? I really enjoy your channel and sense of aesthetic. All the best.
Thanks, should be good on the cabinets but not on a countertop
Love this piece..great job Jon
Brilliant as always Jon. 👍
Wow man...excelent ...very very beautiful ...great project ! congratulations !
Who makes or made your rads? I have the same in my 55y old house, and yours are the only others I've ever seen.
Not sure they were in the house when I bought it
Beautiful as always!
Thanks Dan!
Nice project, thanks for sharing John
Jon do you heat your wool lube prior to applying it? Not sure I have seen it the liquid form.
No , I know you’re talking about... not sure why this got thin like this but still works the same
Beautiful job! Jon! Thanks for always sharing with us. 😎👍JP
Thanks JP
Wonderful build.
