Each time I watch your videos, I find myself just shaking my head in amazement. Not only do you clearly know your "stuff," but you have a real gift, Jay, in explaining things. I'm sure you know this, but you're a great teacher. And, you have inspired countless thousands. Keep it up, fella!
Thanks for taking the time to make this. I appreciate the simplicity of the idea but the complexity of joints. This is beautiful. I've never made more the rough wooden things but moved somewhere with a shop that lets you rent out a space with all the tools. I'd love a concealment coffee table and some nice nightstands.
You can see the difference in color of the top when you are cutting it to width & length. It turned out great! Imperfections in wood are what make is so great to work with.
I like the simplicity allowing the grain to speak for itself. I actually just made one for myself a couple weeks ago and elected to have no drawers as well for your same reasoning. Thanks for the idea of hidden storage. I will add that to mine ASAP
What a fantastic video and great idea. Using the jointer for the legs was brilliant. Thank you for sharing this tip. Your video production is excellent. Well done and appreciate the time and effort in making these videos. Greetings from the UK.
You're such a bad ass! I saw the Sketchup video yesterday and boy o' boy, just when you think you got it down, here comes Jay with like 10 new tricks/shortcuts for you!! Love your builds. Keep em coming boss!
Fascinating use of the jointer. I really like your choice of wood. You’ve come a long way from working in the apartment maintenance unit. Thanks for sharing!
I've never seen that jointer taper method. Very cool! Thank you for adding another way to accomplish a task to my knowledge. Limitations are sometimes only a result of your minds limitations, as proven here. Kudos
Oh my! I'm amazed at that tapering process!! That made this whole video worth it... Uh, it's always worth it with your videos. Lol... But this is great!!
Really nice work. Mitch Rudman of High Falls Furniture uses a similar stretcher and leg jointing method. The tapering leg on the jointed blew my mind... utterly ingenious!
Beautiful table, and I have to say that MSU decor is on point! Not everyday you realize one of your favorite woodworkers is a fellow Bulldog! Hail State!!! :)
Beautiful Wood, and beautiful finished project. Interesting method of cutting the tapers. I have seen this method of cutting mortices before and don't see a problem with it. I have been jointing with the alternate face for a while now, since you mentioned it. That was a great tip. Shsss I can't see any colour difference
Great table. I'm starting a beer cap epoxy coffee table for friends and wanted to add a drawer instead now I'm adding a hidden drawer. Great idea with the magnets.
Nice looking table. I did thought that it would have been some kind of. Press here and the storage would reveal itself. But it is still a nice and easy way to hide things away from sight. Great job. Thx for sharing. Regards.
That's a beautiful table, Jay. And another informative build video. I'm still struggling to get shop projects made of pine and poplar to come out right but hope to build some actual furniture in the not too distant future. Your videos give me confidence that I'll get there eventually.
Thoroughly enjoyed this project and video! Never seen that taper trick before. I always rough cut the taper on the bandsaw and then joint it smooth. Loved the song reference.
Awesome video Jay. I can’t imagine how you felt seeing the difference in the two boards and relived when the boards rotated and all was fine thank goodness. Incredible work take care my friend
Beautiful job, Jay. I always enjoy your work and consider your videos the best photography and best narratives out there (I am quickly turned off by You Tube videos with no narratives and wild music). I watched your SketchUp video first to see how you planned this project and, as always, picked up great pointers on using SketchUp. Keep up the good work.
I use an air gun to blow the glue into cracks when repairing boards. I let it drip into the crack then blow it in deeper to get good bonding. Nice video.
For the Mortising using the Table saw and then Chiseling and router planning the rest out, was technique easier or easier to clean up than setting up the plunge router? Curious getting ready to make a sofa table and have used the router for mortising but never like in this video.
Jay, great job on the table. I watched your Sketchup video for designing this table and I realize just how much I don't know about Sketchup after watching you! Any recommendations for training on how to use Sketchup?

Thank you very much, Larry. There needs to be a Mississippi woodworkers meetup somewhere soon...
Jay Bates - Woodworking Videos Agreed! 100%

NIce build Jay. Dig the variations in standard techniques for this one. Also totally called Jenny!
I like the simplicity allowing the grain to speak for itself. I actually just made one for myself a couple weeks ago and elected to have no drawers as well for your same reasoning. Thanks for the idea of hidden storage. I will add that to mine ASAP
The jointer taper is cool. I even liked the look after the initial passes on one end.
I've never seen anyone use a jointer like that before. Brilliant! Thank you for sharing this build.
That’s a beautiful table. Your choice of narrating the build was a good one. It really helped me understand what you were doing and why.
Wow amazing build....you are right that front face is gorgeous and thanks for that taper trick. Great work as usual
Awesome build!! Love how you don't ramble senselessly about things and just give great insight and advice!!
What a fantastic video and great idea. Using the jointer for the legs was brilliant. Thank you for sharing this tip. Your video production is excellent. Well done and appreciate the time and effort in making these videos. Greetings from the UK.
Excellent video as always, Jay! Thanks for changing your mind about the narration. I'd have never understood the very slick tapering trick without it!
You're such a bad ass! I saw the Sketchup video yesterday and boy o' boy, just when you think you got it down, here comes Jay with like 10 new tricks/shortcuts for you!! Love your builds. Keep em coming boss!

So much knowledge! That taper method it brilliant, the hidden drawer is awesome, and now I know that you or your wife has great taste in books!
Wife reads books. I read internet.
Jay Bates - Woodworking Videos Well you both have good taste then!
Genius! So much more simple than having sliders and hinges, etc. Thank you!
Awesome build, I couldn't remember her number, but now I won't be able to forget it!
That taper trick in the jointer is gold! Thank you.
Beautiful table! I had never seen the taper cutting on the jointer. Very cool. Thanks.
Jay, I think your channel is the best. I hope it never changes, as some have. I learn everything from you.
Beautiful maple in the table.
Thanks for videoing the process and sharing.
Jim
Great work as usual Jay. To tell the truth, I found your step by step voice-over very cool. It really helped me get more into the project. V

Very nice. Also very interesting to watch your "methods". Thanks for sharing.
Great table project Jay. I love the hidden draw idea and how you tapered the legs on the joiner trick.
Great build Jay! Loved the jointer taper trick.
I've never seen that jointer taper method. Very cool! Thank you for adding another way to accomplish a task to my knowledge. Limitations are sometimes only a result of your minds limitations, as proven here. Kudos

I swear, Jenny gives her number to EVERYBODY!
Looking good Jay. Your quite correct that the bigger sized table suits the space much better.
Thank you for narrating this one. I'm new to this and learned a LOT!
Really nice, professionally done, video with lots of useful information...thank you!
you just had to put that song in our heads didn't you!
Great build, Jay. love the colour and simplicity.
Sing on brother!
Eight six seven five three OHHH Nineeeee! Awesome Jay!
Beautiful table, and I have to say that MSU decor is on point! Not everyday you realize one of your favorite woodworkers is a fellow Bulldog! Hail State!!! :)

Jay , that hall table is a beaut, well done sir!!👍👍
Very nice project. I’ve had the same problem with mahogany and cherry changing colors. For that reason I always use a pre-conditioner right away.
Looks awesome Jay! 👍👊 Great taper tip too! ..... No better place to store that number, than a table with a Tutone top! 😉
Is there a reason you prefer the jointer to taper rather than the saw? Cleaner? Easier?
That is one gorgeous table glad you kept that maple solid
Nice home defence storage for a home with no children. Never thought of using a jointer this way. Awesome job
Great table. I'm starting a beer cap epoxy coffee table for friends and wanted to add a drawer instead now I'm adding a hidden drawer. Great idea with the magnets.
Jay that taper technique was simply amazing. Thank you.
Great video and beautiful project! The jointer trick was awesome. As usual thumbs up!
Nice build, Jay; I like the simple hidden storage solution.
Great video man! Excellent hidden storage idea.
Nice looking table. I did thought that it would have been some kind of. Press here and the storage would reveal itself. But it is still a nice and easy way to hide things away from sight. Great job.
Thx for sharing.
Regards.
Beautiful design, beautiful wood
Thanks for not just playing music. love the instruction.
Cool taper trick. I've seen a variation of the technique using a jointer, but not the two pass method. I'll have to remember that one.
Beautiful work as always Jay!
That's a beautiful table, Jay. And another informative build video. I'm still struggling to get shop projects made of pine and poplar to come out right but hope to build some actual furniture in the not too distant future. Your videos give me confidence that I'll get there eventually.

The jointer taper method was really good. Keep it up man. Maybe you should try doing a with a hidden compartment
Nice table. I love the proud mahogany strips!
Thoroughly enjoyed this project and video! Never seen that taper trick before. I always rough cut the taper on the bandsaw and then joint it smooth. Loved the song reference.

This piece is beautiful! You blew my mind with the taper cuts!
Good stuff Jay. I learn something from nearly all of your videos.
nice build as usual, those mild earthquakes can be a pain.
Beautiful table, Jay! I think that matches nicely with your new coffee table. I've never seen this tapering method with the jointer. Very interesting!
Nice table! The WoT books on the shelf look very familiar!
So nice! That wood looks great

Great job. I dont understand the need for drawers I do understand not wanting to brake up the side rales.
Another awesome project, Jay. Loved that jointer trick. These hidden drawers are pretty nifty! We gotta collab soon, let’s make it happen.
Beautiful job, Jay. Beautiful table & I love the hidden storage 👍🏻👍🏻
Great build! Simple table design but it looks great. I always learn something from your videos. Thanks for sharing
Love it , I will try to make one. Joinery looks little difficult and tapper, I may try with different joinery and straight rapper.
Jay, great job on the table. I watched your Sketchup video for designing this table and I realize just how much I don't know about Sketchup after watching you! Any recommendations for training on how to use Sketchup?
