      Proper trifle is made with real jam, fresh fruit, and homemade custard. Jelly was a depression/ war years substitute that stuck. But the original is still best.

    This is the best trifle recipe on TH-cam! 100% classic, although I don’t like nuts or coconut on top so I replaced that with grated chocolate.

    I have made many while in Australia, they teach me how to do it, this one look lovely I will try to do it. Thank you. It's not always easy to find the Jelly crystals in France, but likely I have found a little Irish shop that have some, so it's perfect. love the Port wine Jelly flavour.

    This type of trifle is a family favourite at Christmas time,and the birds powder custard is the best,bless her my gran used to be able to thicken it straight away without reheating it,I am not sure if she used boiling milk but it was perfect every time ,she made up the paste with the powder,sugar and a little milk,then heated the milk when it was ready poured it in stirring all the time and it thickened perfectly,I still cannot make it work lol

    This is very similar to how i make my Christmas trifle (that's my job every year). Instead of a swiss/jelly roll, I just buy a square/rectangle sponge pair, and stick the top and bottom sponges together with a decent helping of raspberry (or what flavour you prefer) jam. Then I cube the sponge and layer it on the bottom of the bowl. Instead of using jelly, I just use mixed fruit -drained well-(mixed berrys are yummy, as are a mix of tinned peaches, apricots, mango, pear etc) on top of the sponge bits and then drizzle over sherry and the leftover fruit juices, enough to make the sponges moist but not soaking wet (too wet goes sloppy, and don't forget some juices will still seep out of the fruit). Then I make packet custard and pour it over the top, making sure it gets in between all the gaps between the sponge bits, down the sides of the bowl, be generous. When cold and set, then I add my whipped cream.
    I am in charge of this every year and my mum makes me make an extra one in a wee bowl, just for her lol. It lasts for days in the kitchen and is even better the next day :-)

    My mum used to make the best Sherry trifle ever. The Swiss roll was all but swimming before she stopped pouring the Sherry. It was strong but good and in no way recommended for anyone driving home after the party.

  • @kamauwikeepa7308
    @kamauwikeepa7308 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I've poured fruit juice over the cake before pouring the jelly, works quite the same. I prefer cubes of cake and place them roughly then add the jelly and allow to set before adding fruit. I do not completely cover the cake completely to leave it visible from outside. Then I pour custard over before it sets so it fills in any gaps and refrigerate, then add cream last before serving with decorations. I always make plum pudding in a cloth with fruit as usual of course boiled in a large deep pot. Thank you for sharing and I will make your's this festive season.

Or do you wait for the jelly to set before pouring the custard on top? Thankyou.
