Live after death was the first concert my older brother took me to when I was in eighth grade. I was buzzing for 3 days afterwards and was on another planet from what my young mind just witnessed. Maiden fan since I was 10 yrs old, now 50. Great choice guys!
I was 11 when I see em on the dance of death tour after that show I changed forever, so I know exactly what you mean. I saw them for the 10th time this year and still blows my mind every time
Adrian Smith was the first guitar solo playing his white signature series Jackson, Dave Murray played the second playing the sunburst Fender Strat. Windmill guitarist is Janick Gers
Let me clarify. The guitarist who screws up Adrians solos and dances like a clown and sometimes doesn’t plug in his guitar. Oh, and he does a cheesy windmill move. Up the Irons!!!!
I'm a drummer and the cool thing about Nicko (the drummer) is that he plays a single base drum with a single pedal he plays all his double bass licks with just one foot pedal and one foot. So much talent with this guy
Rime of the Ancient Mariner is one of my favorite Maiden songs from one of my favorite albums. And the piano version of Zombie at the beginning makes me appreciate that song even more. I didn't think that was possible.
I was lucky enough to see Iron Maiden on their 2008 Somewhere Back in Time Tour, which was a like a dream come true because I was 10 years old when Iron Maiden did the World Slavery Tour in 1984/85, nearly 40 years ago! That 2008 show is still one of the best concerts I’ve been to in over 30 years of active concert going. This reaction brought back some cool memories of that show, though the one I attended was in May in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but it was the same stage set up of course. Love Iron Maiden to pieces. Good video, Lads. 🤘🏼🔥
@@jakemaattanen I was well aware of that but only Iron Maiden can turn a dry ass poem like that in to an epic song of awesomeness. Massive fan of the poem and love how Iron Maiden capture its atmosphere 🤘 - Maiden is a subliminal history lesson 🤣 (I never realised at the time skipping school to listen to Maiden in the 80s gave me a better education 🤣 I’m now addicted to history thanks to them 🤣)
Thanks Guys, good choice. Caught this tour in Toronto. Awesome Show, as always. Had a chance to see the airplane at Pearson Airport (YYZ) on the tarmac. Unbelievable. Keep up the good work R&J.
Oh. My favorite song of all the songs ever written. It was, is and will be, Golden. Thanks guys. And in the beginning, on the piano, Judson and ZOMBIE !
I remember going to the Powerslave concert (Twister Sister was the warmup band) and being a little bored part way through this song. There was a rumor that they would shorten it for concerts but nope, aside from playing some things a bit fast it was all there. In retrospect I am really happy to say I had the chance to experience it live shortly after the band released that album. I grew to like this song more and more as the years rolled on. Thanks for the great reaction :)
The kids get a history lesson in every song with Iron Maiden. It's fun to see them all singing classic literature adapted for rock and roll. It's amazing to see a rowdy rock crowd totally immersed in the story of that song.
Steve Harris is the heart and soul of Iron Maiden. It's something to say that Bruce Dickinson is one of the best metal vocalists of all time but is often a secondary musician against the great instrumental melodies composed by Harris.
First solo right after the "chill part" was Adrian Smith, then the second was Dave Murray. The third guitarist that was doing the windmills is Janick Gers. He joined the band when Adrian Smith had left the band to do his own thing, and some years later when Smith rejoined the band they decided that rather than boot Janick Gers out like other bands would have done they would instead have a 3-guitar lineup, and that it made a lot of sense since their studio recordings had multiple layers of guitar and harmonies anyway.
Great stuff guys! What a tune! You should take a look at “The Flight of Icarus” next for Maiden, complete opposite end of the length spectrum, but still manages to contain all the constituent parts.
Judson likes bands that reference literature - Maiden has quite a catalogue of songs referencing literature (20+). A few recommendations (but certainly not limited to): Moonchild (1988) Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1986) Children of the Damned (1982) When The Wild Wind Blows (2010) Brave New World (2000) Out of the Silent Planet (2000) To Tame a Land (1983) There's many more, especially their older stuff, but these would make for great reactions in my opinion. Up the Irons!
Dave Murray was the original guitarist ( sunburst fender ) and founder with Steve Harris ( bassist ) of Maiden and yes, Big fan of Dave being a guitarist myself.
I hope I can get the pleasure of hearing this live one day, since I’ve been able to afford it I haven’t let an opportunity to see these guys do their thing pass me by

Judson would love Iron Maiden's 'Empire of the Clouds'. It's got Bruce playing piano. You'll have to do the studio version as they haven't performed it live, yet. And there is also 'Seventh Son of a Seventh Son' live or studio that is another epic. UP THE IRONS! 🤘🏻🇬🇧🖤
