    At 1:38:50 you show your difficulty holding pads while inserting the springwires. It was much easier by using a c-clamp at the lower end to hold the pads against the rotor and then put the springs in place. Then I lowered the caliper just enough to hold the pads in, then removed the c-clamp and swung the caliper all the way down. Your Avalon brake videos are the best!

    I appreciate the bolt size/thread pitch for the rotor removal. I started my brake job on 09 Avalon and saw that it had these and I couldn’t just slide the rotor off as easy as my other cars. I deal with tapered bearings at work and it’s the same concept of removing them. I will be going to go buy some bolts to remove them.

    i have an 05 Avalon and you hit right on the point of my dilemma. I have the front RH caliper bracket pins not sliding. I thought I had to buy new calipers (reman actually) Im going to back and check it after watching your video. I think you may have saved me like $300 dollars (since I would have replaced all 4) Your video is excellent! Thank you!

      Thank you for the kind words. I was hoping doing such a "real time" video would be valuable to a few people since we would be discussing things in a level of detail that woukd be hard to cover in a 10-minute tutorial.
      I hope your project goes well, and you're back on the road safely...with a fat wallet.

    Thanks for making this detailed video. I generally carry my cars to a shop to get this work done. Years ago I did do my own brake jobs but now that I'm retired I decided to do it myself on my 2007 Avalon. Following your instructions. One of my bottom slide / glide pins was missing the bushing collar. Have to wonder if these pins get removed, inspected, cleaned & lubed during a brake job. Again thanks for the video.

    Hey stranger, nice work! I just stumbled on this searching for the Camry/Avalon/ES 350 brake upgrade (to Sienna/Highlander/NX calipers & rotors).

      Thank you man! I am glad you found it helpful, although I assume you had to fast forward through a good chunk of it, hehehe!
      I was trying something different at the time with these real time videos, but I'm not sure people really like this format.

      So is that the equivalent to the akebono/brembo upgrade to us Nissan folk?
      Or maybe more like how S coupe guys used to use Infiniti Q45 calipers as they were larger.

    • @DblA90
      @DblA90 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EdBwoy it's probably not as drastic improvement as Akebono calipers on M35/45. I think ES350 rotors are about 280mm and Highlander rotors are about 320mm

    new rotors should be cleaned on both side pad mating surfaces with brake clean to make sure no manufacturing oil and never spray brake cleaner on rubber material/parts like CV boot, etc it makes then hard, dry, and brittle (will crack)

    I have an '06 Avalon Limited and am replacing the front brakes. The one thing I found different than your video is that there were no "v-shaped" clips that you had on yours. The two clips you were trying to keep in place while lowering the caliper. Does that make sense to you?

      I have a similar issue. 06 avalon xls and no brake return clips. Have tried looking for them at auto stores and no one has anything that is supposed to fit the car. Although the concept of them makes a lot of sense to me.

    If you tight those bolts more than should, can cause damage to the pads?

    Would you recommend the Duralast Gold pads over the Akebono pads for Toyotas? I have a 2011 Avalon and will be changing the them soon

    • @EdBwoy
      @EdBwoy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think both are very good brands. If they were as handily available, I would go for Akebono. However, the Duralast are always available and have a nice return policy.
