Just mastered all the mastery’s for the English now going through the holy Roman empires got to say best RTS game in last 10 years really good game and on pc gamepass
Even if there were only 5 minutes covering the mongols it has helped me a lot to set my self ready for future matches, amazing video!
i'm liking aoe 4 a lot. while it gets compared to 2 a lot, i feel like the civs are unique enough compared to each other that it makes it interesting. vanilla aoe 2 most of the factions felt very similar, wasn't till all those expansions that we started seeing more unique units and tech and different play styles really.
Similar civs is what makes AoE2 better, because it doesn’t force you how to play
AoE4 restricts you to follow a predetermined strategy for each civ. it’s very boring

One thing that bears mentioning about the Hulks or generally any broadside ships:
The two sides of the ship have independent reset timers. If you rotate 180° between each shot, you can easily double the DPS they output

Great overview! I may start with the Mongols just because I often get wrapped up in the micro and forget to build houses, and I end up supply blocked. Love the idea of never worrying about that.

I dont see this anywhere in the comments/video, but with the Rus you don't need to walk your villagers all the way to the Deer, there is an upgrade that can let your Scouts kill and drag the deer corpses back to base.

It's a great game! You'll love it!
France also has a pretty cool age upgrade option of taking the Guild building, which lets you set a resource to build up. The longer you wait to collect the resource the more you get per tic, from 20 up to 200 every 20-30 seconds (I think). So you can get periodic boosts to gold or stone late game when resources run dry. Just something to also mention when talking about France's economic power.
Its also very good on water maps when you get starved for resources such as wood or gold when you get blockaded.
BTW. You don't have to send villagers off to corners of map to hunt deer as the RUS. You can unlock carcass carrying from hunting cabin and get scout hunt and carry back the the carcases
Yep, as a RUS main came here to talk about that same thing. Good that this comment already exists here. Personally really love to just go run around and one-shot the deer with a scout to grow the bounty crazy fast.
Great video so far, looking forward to watching the rest. I'm most excited to try out the Rus (don't know if they were available in the last beta) and the Delhi Sultanate. Their research mechanic looks interesting, and war elephants are just too damn fun, in any game really.
They weren't in the last beta unfortunately :( but they're a lot of fun. The research is awesome becsuse you can just spam all research and get it out of the way :)
Me too. The Rus just seem awesome too me, I like the bounty system (I am especially intruiged to constantly kill the sheep of mongols for gold), streltzy and of course the warrior monk. And for the Delhi Sultanate, what else is there to say than war elephants

i love the sound of the english for turtling with stone walls and making a massive fortress base, but i also love the delhi sultanates for their free tech and free elephants, cant decide which one i want to play so im just gonna try both
Delhi is the strongest for me, they can abuse the hell out of walls and wall towers are no joke if used correctly. You can build them on the fly and extremely fast with infantry even whilst mid battle, though people may get angry at ya building a fort right on top of their base in seconds
@@kelticsage While I am 100% inexperienced. You cannot slack at all on Delhi. You can get rushed so fast and just be destroyed if you aren't careful and a fast farmer. I've won few games because I got rushed before I was any where near ready. But when you do get ready and go out to fight...oh its a nice feeling
@@wyattrommel8038 I agree you can get rushed quite easily, though the only reason I win with them is their defense capabilities allow me more time to get prepared as they waste units on my towers.
The couple times I lost was unlucky stone spawns and someone who was prepared to counter with bombards/trebuchets too fast

Love the Mongols, at least they feel like something new. I will say though AOM was far better at making civs seem different than AOE. Helps with variety.

The Vanguard Man at Arms should have a round shield imho! He's a Dark Ages guy after all!
Actually if we would want to go with history they should probably go Viking Age Sword + Round Shield with short sleeved mail shirt -> Cruciform Sword + Kite Shield with full mail -> Heater Shield (as is basically) + Cruciform Sword with full and some plate -> Pollaxe or Longsword + Plate Armor.
Also; WoW Age represents Greatswords better than Total War Gameplay wise!

A note on the Rus - you can use scouts to go hunt and bring the deer back to your villagers so you don't have to move your vils around and it keeps them safer

Question though. For the Chinese faction, you jumped from Ming to Yuan Dynasty. Does this mean the bonus that you have will be in the Yuan, leaving the bonus of the Ming behind? Thanks!
Correct! I wanted to show that you don't need to go in sequence. It's a really cool mechanic
I feel like not building houses does help with microing the Mongols, it's at least one thing you don't have to worry about. Also the sheep pasture seems easier to ignore then farms.

One small note: when talking about the Streltsy, you made a small mistake. It has 42 base damage and 51 after it's buff is fully stacked. The stat viewer seems to display current, modified values. It would be nice if they changed it to look like this: "X + Y" where X is the base value and Y are the sum of modifiers.
Great point! thanks so much for pointing that out. I agree, it'd be so much easier to understand the base value of a specific troop and how it progresses via upgrades, because some become much more deadly with upgrades!

The Mongols sound awesome, but also really easy to defend against and to mess with, since they have no walls.
Mongols all the way. It's the only civ I play, and I love a good match against the English as the Mongols. I just beat a guy playing the Chinese, and he was so mad because he said I was playing as the easiest civ as the Mongols. :D I love it!
For English the network of castles only applies to other towers/keeps and town buildings that fire, not applicable to units.
I would like to see mortar unit in a game :) I hope that they add it later
The issue is that mortars weren't really a period piece of artillery. They don't really start showing up until the 1700s. They then get abandoned (for the most part) they only to be resurrected in the 1910s in WWI.
Howitzers again aren't period accurate because they're a fairly modern piece of artillery, again showing up in the mid-late 1700s
I've just got to say really quickly as I keep watching that you do not want to underestimate the Elite Chinese palace guard. I was playing against them in the open beta with the HRE putting out a lot of infantry and a group of them unleashed a pack of whoop ass just cutting through every man at arms they could their hands on. Just standing in front of the swarm smacking guys down like some martial arts action flick. They are a really really good way to stop a enemy charge. Maybe I just suck lol but ahh

sorry if this is a stupid question, but I fail to see how man at arms would serve as a good defense - wouldnt regular spearmen be better to defend versus cavalry and horse archers because of their bonus dmg against them?
Yes! But! The man at arms has a ton of armor and that mitigates any damage coming their way. Ideally you'd want both, the MaM to hold the line and the spearmen to kill :)
I've been playing since Age 1 and never got into the multiplayer scene. Now I'm a father and my keyboard skills are waning. Feel like I missed my window to master the hotkeys and get competitive.
Who would you say is the best civ overall? I was going to main the English but now I'm not even sure!
I have my English guide going up tomorrow! Honestly, the English are just straight bad ass. They have a real high skill ceiling because managing late game anti-armor is going to be hard, but you'll have some of the tankiest front line units in the game with 180 health, 14 damage, and a WHOPPPPINGGGG 7 armor when fully upgraded. My top 3 favorites are English, French, and Rus! :)

For the Chinese Dynasty's, do you get the bonuses with every dynasty to unlock and they stack or do you ONLY get the bonus for the Dynasty that your IN? Like when you back tracked to the Yuan Dynasty and it showed that was unlocked does that mean you only get THAT bonus even though you have the requirements for the others including being able to produce the dynasty specific units?
You also left out the fact that the Chinese Official can boost production and drop off buildings. ^^
I believe you lose access to the previous dynasty's bonus, which is a bit odd! Which includes losing production of that dynasty's units.

From how I understood it, Chinese gives you the option to leapfrog into a later Dynasty but also rewards you for going through each one in sequence?
Yes! Correct! The reward is the capability to recruit any unit after making spirit of the way

I didn't like the stress test (probably because the English and HRE are relatively boring). Bought the game anyway and I'm LOVIN' the Mongols!
I just bought this for first time ever saved 35 on website cd keys 🥳 civilisations 6 looks so old and dusty now to play.
When i see all the aoe2 expansion civilizations didn't make it into aoe4 i swear they're gonna charge us for it in the upcoming expansion dlc
There will be dlc for sure but I think the decision to cut the roster down drastically and focus on making them unique from each other was the right one

I think this game need a balance. Theres only one path to devolope: build army fast, very fast. There's no way to choose different way and defend against rush strategy

I have to admit I'm confused with how the HRE starts building really German-looking buildings. They don't look bad, I just like me some columns.
Germany and Austria were the core of the HRE. It included northern Italy, but not Rome. It was poorly named.

I have not played a lot of PvP matches and I certainly am no pro at AoE(4), but for me Mongols are super easy to play.
Just build The Silver Tree next to your Owoo asap and pump traders. You will get massive income through that for the rest of the match, and dont need to constantly care about new gold mines.
Then go for Mangudai (Horse Archers) and harass your enemy by running around their TC (in a distance, where you don't get shot). Just queue moves (not attack moves) if you need time for macro.
The only strong early counters for them are Longbows and Camel-Archers, other than that just run away from attackers and through their Villagers.
