This map should seriously be called Low Tides instead. The main strip of land in the middle looks like a passage way that only reveals during low tide.
On the flip side of that, the water on the map could also possibly only normally be there at high tide.

@ImperialHarbinger why would the water be on both sides of the land then though? Is it a peninsula? An island we can't see the borders of?
@@rooftopmentality1996 If you look at images of river deltas, you can see that there are mounds or "islands" of varying sizes interspersed throughout the water level. Some of these places are at lower elevations than others, and it's conceivable that a moderately tall mass of land or sand will still stick out while water flows around it at high tide.

Feels to me this one was a particualrly bad gen for El Matador with the majority of their trees being very close to Ozone.
Definitely, ozone had way more safe resources than Matador
it goes both ways on these in the long term its worse but in these fast games having more safe space to build is a big advantage
Ozone had more safe wood at the back, this is why he collected more of it

Probably choked because of the messiness, random demos popping non stop and random harassment elsewhere in the map, it's easier to remember when you watch this with a UI like capture age, not when playing lol
Absolutely unfair for El Matador, he only had 1 safe wood whilst Ozone had 3.
University and guard tower was the final reason he lost. What a squandered early castle/siege opportunity

Honest question, first to castle age, why not go monks and relics? Yes it’s a heavy investment… but you might just need it. Then maybe go mango/knights or something?

I don’t think it’s like the biggest difference maker probably, but I’d like to see it tweaked so that castles can still out-range mangonels. Still great that the range on buildings have been nerfed but it might be a fun wrinkle to still have that dynamic
Think this one should have been considered a re-do. It came down to wood being the limiting factor, and one player very clearly had the distinct wood advantage from the very start.
Man…matador had this game man….if he would have just made a castle instead of those two towers….he could have secured the rest of the wood and been golden
I think it would be fairer if towers were double the cost instead of half range. against archers they feel useless

After you're done with this series, we would like to see a LARGEST map ever series. That would be fun, with super long games
Why not add a mangonel when they outrange everything
They cost 160 wood, in addition to the siege workshop costing 200. Add to that, they can be destroyed in the blink of an eye. Sure, repairing can help protect the investment, but that costs even more wood.

Honestly, I enjoyed the tiny map games more without the modded balance settings, even though it was mostly towers. At least, the range of units should be adjusted as well.
This game, I think the map generation also favoured Ozone with the wood in the back. On the other hand, Ozone also made better decisions in what to produce (i.e. archers), overall.
I am new to online AoE2 Play, Is there somewhere I can find all of his amazing community maps? Are they easy to import? T90 thank you for renewing my decades long love affair with this game.
You can find the map packs under the mods sections. Search for hidden cup or any other maps. Also lots of scenarios and campaigns to download
I think one or two mangonels instead of the guard tower upgrade and this would have been a very different story.

Ozone consistently having huge idle TC time early on… but the maps being so small making matador extra vills not making up the difference.

t90 you really should find someone that can make custom silver coins and have them make a few for smallest map prizes 20$ worth of silver makes a nice small prize that someone would treasure

the meta's as I thought it would be: archers. you deny SO much with archers that now cannot be stopped by towers. Ozone won this game the moment he abandoned the water and started queing up archers: Matador simply couldn't do anything about them

I really do appreciate the nerfed towers, actually makes it worthwhile to make actual units to fight instead of just rushing a bunch of towers around the 2 resource spots on the map
Gotta be honest, I think half range is too much of a nerf. Mangonels killing castles isn't balanced.

HC5 will be on normal sized maps. I do hope that T90 makes a tiny maps tournament though, it would be great. People are just starting to figure out the half range tower / castle meta. The tournament would go fast since the tiny maps don't take long

Matador has good micro, but rather poor situational awareness. Ozone has good micro and decent situational awareness. In the long run ozone will win 100%.
The settings are silly: If the buildings get less range because there is limited space, then all ranged units should also get less range and all units should move slower. Changing only buildings upsets the balance of the game.
The whole point was to change the balance of the game away from buildings.
@@scottdebrestian9875You can do that without making buildings essentially powerless. Nerfing units and buildings gives more room to move and means towers and castles are no longer as strong. When you only nerf buildings this goes too far.
I am no expect on AoE2 but I feel like Teutons and their castle +3 range upgrad along with free murder holes could be useful on this map. Assuming the +3 didn’t also get nerfed
Edit: assuming you can make it to imperial age, I thought Crenellations was in castle age (which is ironclad)
Also that is tuetons not Turks.

Every one of these games between these two seem the same. Ozone plays archers with upgrades and towers. Mat goes early ages without any real plan and just loses from investing resources with no plan

I'm really loving "nerfed towers" Smallest Maps. Leads to a lot more interesting shenanigans instead of games that just end in feudal tower spam.
The range changes have turned this into a full on mod where theres lots of different unusual interactions with units. Please revert to vanilla, it was better.
