I thought I was late getting my first Switch in 2019 and that feels like a decade ago! It fueled me to start my channel even. Even though typically last gen consoles get clearanced and discounted, I don't think Nintendo will do that after the release of the next console. I agree that there's not a whole lot of upside to waiting. Beautiful video as always my dude.

Dude! Thanks for watching! I didn’t know the Switch was there reason why you started your channel. That’s really cool. I don’t think the Switch will get clearance out either. Nintendo is still selling them regularly. There’s no need for them to drop the price. Plus, they are still releasing trait good games in it.

I think I made one huge mistake unfortunately, I kept on waiting constantly for switch 2 even starting from the beginning of 2021, then they announced the OLED, and then I thought this was the last device to top it all off... I thought they would have released a switch 2 in 2022 or 2023, but in that point I just gave up and bought the switch OLED back in December 2023. I have to say it's well worth it, only wish I had got it earlier.

I kinda do want to hold off on getting the switch so that I can get the next nintendo console. But I really would like to get my hands on the switch so I can play Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and Smash Bros, and I might just do that. Like aside from having a weak battery, the switch is amazing console, at first I didn't think much of it until I played a bit of Smash Bros Ultimate, Pokken Tournament, and Breath of the Wild. And now I been completely interested in the switch after that experience. And with all the games that been dropping recently, it seems like now would be a good time to pick up a switch.

    • @NeanderMeander

It all depends on your budget. If you have enough money to get one, I would say get one. We don't know if the new console coming out from Nintendo will be backwards compatible. Used Switch's are going for very reasonable prices. However, if you don't have enough money for both, maybe it's not a bad idea to wait. Prices for Switch systems will come down on the used market. Especially when the new console comes out. When the Switch released, I was buying 3DS's for $30.

I think there's a reason why many of the switch games don't go on sale and I think it's because it is a very versatile coveted console that has a game for every age group. Now personally I am never bothered by lagging unless it's super noticeable but I pick and choose which games I play on which console. If it's something that will likely play better on the PS4, I play it on the PS4 and that goes for every game for every console.

The Switch is steller. Its the culmination of everything the portable game market has tried to be over the last 30 years. It might sound crazy to some but I probably wont be getting the Switch successor or any other console going forward. I do most of my gameplay using the Lite at this point. My original Switch doesnt get used much and I probably wont get an OLED.
I, like you, love the 3DS. But the Switch just has a variety of games that my beloved 3DS cant touch. And with at least 2 more years of games coming to Switch and the massive amount of games it already has, there is just so much more for me to collect. Heck there are some games that are seemingly already too late to collect because of the scarcity and high prices (looking at you NIS America).
The Switch is a great console and one I'm happy to bow out of the current cycle with going forward.

Yeah, I had a Wii U during it's entire run. It was cool to play games on the Gamepad, but it wasn't the same as having a true handheld. Having to be so close to the console really killed the feature in my honest opinion. I used it occasionally, but never really had any serious game play on it. I did use the Gamepad as a TV remote. It was a real handy feature I wish more consoles would implement. Luckily Nintendo got the hint and made what everybody wanted the Wii U to be.

Yes. It's a huge upgrade if you play a lot in handheld. There's even people who mainly played docked who switched to playing handheld a lot more after upgrading to OLED.
The screen isn't the only improvement too. Internal storage is doubled (32gb to 64 gb), better kickstand, bigger, better, more contrast and colorful screen, better battery life, better dock, better speakers, etc...

Yeah, that's a gamble, but who knows what Nintendo's plan is. It could be 2025 for all we know. I think it will be next year, but again, nobody knows so far.
The OLED is amazing! I got one when they first came out and I never looked back. Just like the comments before mine, it's better in just about every way. Definitely worth the upgrade. If you're thinking about picking one up, maybe hold off for a few months to see if there will be any deals during the holidays.

      @NeanderMeander  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I respect this outlook. But again, we don’t know anything about the new console. Maybe it’s not backwards compatible. Nintendo only offers that when it’s convenient. They’ve only had it available on the Wii with GameCube games and Wii U with Wii games. All their other home consoles left the past on the past. Unless you count the Wii U re-releases they had us buy again on the Switch. Their handhelds are a different story and have always offered it. Though, waiting for the new one isn’t a bad idea. I’m excited to see what Nintendo has come up with.

Because even if there's a new console, the first releases are usually shit and companies release a better/upgraded version after only a few years like the Nintendo Switch V1 to V2.
And for people who has never had a switch to drop a huge amount of money on a new console they almost have no background about - it's actually better to invest in cheaper older variations to test the waters if they would even like the games. Lots of people bought the switch and got disappointed because they just got hyped and they actually prefer ps and xbox games.

I think we haven't figured out yet how much Switch is (and will be) important for videogame history. I'm sure in a couple of decades people will be retro gaming with Switch just like now we're doing with Game Boy or DS... Apart from the titles you mentioned, there are a lot more who deserve to be played by Switch's new buyers. Fire Emblem Three Houses & Engage, Astral Chain, Xenoblade Chronicles 1-2-3, Octopath Traveler 1-2, Triangle Strategy, Yoshi's Crafted World, Luigi's Mansion 3, Platoon 2-3, all the ports from Wii U, many many Indies, Incredible ports from other consoles (The Witcher 3, Persona 5 Royal, Nier;Automata) and all the hidden gems I forgot... In these days I'm not home and just playing in portable mode, I never miss my daily dose of Tetris 99 and MiniMotorways.

The Nintendo Switch now in 2023 is on the same spot that was the PlayStation 2 in 2007. It is not the powerhouse console of the bunch but it have the First Party games, some 3rd Party ports and tonnes of Indy games.
PlayStation 4 is also on the same spot, but the difference is the PS4 sells are quit finish, when the switch still old up today.

2:51 I disagree that they should have done it sooner. I think they wanted to, but the technology to do it seamlessly wasn't available until 2015, and this new technological breakthrough is USB Type C. 2015 was the year the 12 inch Macbook came out, and it was one of the first devices to have this port. USB Type C could have much more bandwidth than a standard USB Type A connector, especially with Thunderbolt, but I'm not going to go into that aspect since it is a proprietary technology developed by Intel. Another advantage USB Type C has is power. The initial designs of Type C could do up to 100 watts, compared to the 10 or so watts of Type A. This means that more powerful things could use this new open standard, and Nintendo took advantage of what Type C has to offer. Through this one port with the included dock, you can fully charge the Switch, send out a video and audio output, and even have some Type A ports (running at USB 2 speeds) to connect wired controllers or anything Nintendo would allow. Without Type C, the Switch, and many other portable PC's, probably wouldn't exist. The Switch is awesome, but it's important to note why this whole hybrid concept is as elegant as it is.

Thank you for this perspective. It was very informative. To be honest, that line wasn’t me criticizing Nintendo for not doing it sooner. I was just making the observation that it seemed like something they could have done earlier and it would have been a very Nintendo thing to do.

Started playing the switch during 2020 and let me just say Nintendo has the best exclusives compared to Xbox and PlayStation in my opinion. My personal favorite Nintendo exclusives are the Mario games, Zelda botw, Metroid series and fire emblem. The idea of playing some of these games at home and on the go is so good that it beats PlayStation and Xbox when it comes to accessibility. Nintendo also delivers and makes great successful games unlike Microsoft and Sony when it comes to their own games. Some say Nintendo is for kids only and Nintendo games are for kids but I can care less I love the switch and it is my favorite console ever. The fact that I can even play the old retro games at home and on the go makes the switch even more special to me.
