    For those who are wondering about the size of the Indian Army in 1947-48, yes it was small, in fact, in 1947 at the time of partition, just 50,000 troops were available to handle the border. By the time of attack, total strength of the Army in western sector wasn't more than 2-3,00,000 (total strength about 400K). Majority of this was deployed across the long border of Guj. and Raj. Also, our so called GAWD Nehru and Govt was trying to reduce the numbers from 400K to 200K to save money...

      That's right. We have to understand we just gained our independence and many things were in flux. Considering everything, the Indian armed forces did an exceptional job in the campaign

    This really goes to show how India and Pakistan were fighting for every inch of J&K. I wonder where the the borders wouldve been today had Swatntraveer Savarkar not encouraged Hindus to join the British Indian Army during WW2.

    Kashmir literally had 75% muslim majority population at the time of independence. It definitely belonged to pakistan
