    Eminem's major singles leading up to the release of the sequel to the Marshall Mathers LP have underwhelmed me a bit, honestly.
    What did you think of this album? Love it? Hate it? Why? What should I review next, eh?

It's not a good album but not thaaaat bad , if it's the worst album you've heard then I guess either your music taste is so excellent that you only choose great albums to listen to , or your music horizon is too short , there's a third option too , that is , you haven't even heard it properly and are just jumping on the 'eminem bad' train.

Rap God is a great track. the flow is great for the song, the beat is simple but really works for the song, and the only cringe line on the song is the "batter other women/baking a cake line". this song is catchy and lyrical. its a song that can be accepted on the radio and in the underground. he fused rap and pop flawlessly in this track. and he even says he did in the song. to me that's special.

    Honestly I liked every single song off the SSLP, MMLP, and TES. Encore I just didn't like tracks 7 through 14. Relapse I loved everything but I could do without We Made You and Medicine Ball. Recovery was pretty dope overall. MMLP2 was awesome aside from The Monster (only because it didn't fit at all) oh and Stronger Than I Was would have been great without the singing. Overall (especially off his main albums) Eminem has put out some of the best rap music I've ever heard. Lyrically and on a technical level only few in the world can come close to what he does. I hope he comes back to battle rap one day, THAT would be awesome.

      ***** EXACTLY. I am 100% objective. I have never in my life liked an Eminem song just because it was by Eminem. Which is why I so passionately hate the middle section of Encore. Yeezus is garbage, I agree. Kanye fell off hard, just not as hard as people think. People like songs because A. they're popular B. The song has a good beat or C. because the song is by a particular artist. I'm a rhyming fanatic and I love when people can so cleverly rhyme up to 12-14 syllables in concession while telling a consistent/badass story. This is why I gravitate towards dudes like Eminem, Rakim, sometimes Nas, etc. I'm not obsessed with the dude. I just respect him and some others a lottt... Just preference my man, I don't wanna argue anymore.

    I want every Eminem fan to read this and answer this question, honestly.
    Eminem is aware of his mistakes and he tries to improve constantly, both in his music and his life. He has beaten drug addiction, bad relationships, and issues concerning his race in a black-dominated genre. He has stated he could have done even better with some of his previous records. Basically, he accepts all criticisms and he overcomes them.
    So why is it that Eminem can admit to his own mistakes both in his career and life, yet the majority of Eminem-elitists still act like he is perfect? If you were a true Eminem fan, you wouldn't trample his statements and you would accept that he was never perfect to begin with. I despise myself for making a Drake reference, but Eminem literally started from the bottom and now he's here. He's not done making records, because as a wise man once said "If you believe there's nothing left to learn in your craft, then it is time to retire.".

    I think Eminem is at his best when he is being humorous. I think his true "cringe-worthy" work is his overtly emotional/confessional/serious material because I think his lyrics get too constrained by the concept he's trying too dutifully to convey. When he is the most amoral and aggravating is when his best word play comes out. He's best when he's trolling: one second his rhymes are profound & clever, and the next moment homophobic or misogynistic or regurgitating old idioms. I think his flow is most effective when he won't let well enough be alone, he's unwilling to give us what we want in a steady stream. Its like an AC current of attraction & repulsion. He's giving us the best and the worst, and it is his form (stellar flow) that keeps the listener's attention till the end. And then at the end of the song, I'm not quite sure how I feel about it, but I did enjoy the ride and wouldn't mind a second listen.

    • @bryanheater2730
      @bryanheater2730 9 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      I'd have to disagree. Some of his best work is the serious stuff. Mockingbird, Sing for the Moment, Beautiful, etc. The raw emotion in those songs are something I admire and can relate to my own personal struggles as a human being. I think that's something that makes Eminem so great. He has this uncanny ability to relate his own struggles to other people in the world. That's just my take on it.

    Even though that like his recent material these days aren't allowed to do so without people stating it sucks as if it's some sort of fact, even though it's all completely subjective.
    The irony is, many of these complainers, complaining about Eminems mainstream direction are freaking Drake fans.

    Rap God highlights Eminem's strengths and weaknesses:
    -Incredible technical rapping ability
    -Horrible, corny punchlines
    Rap God offers nothing in terms of lyrical content. It's just a guy rapping words that rhyme together really fast.

    • @tomlv2224
      @tomlv2224 9 ปีที่แล้ว +128

    • @wbip4879
      @wbip4879 9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Tom Lv But that's his point, the song is essentially "punchline god" because Eminem constantly inserting terrible punchlines packed with the finest corn. Even though Em has technical ability it doesn't really show. Rap Critic described this very well in his Berzerk review: (paraphrasing) "The lyrics are great and clever but he puts too much emphasis on the punchlines". (blip.tv/rapcritic/rap-critic-reviews-berzerk-by-eminem-6657127)
      My personal opinion is that Berzerk and Rap God are easily the worst tracks on MMLP2 (obviously excluding Stronger Than I Was), and I also hate the Rap God instrumental which kinda ruins it for me.

      ***** Multiple times on Good Kid Mad City. I can't think of a single black rapper who hasn't done a rhyme along the lines of "hey nigga", "shame nigga", etc. Not saying it makes Kendrick unskilled. Anthony's just trying to appeal to his black audience. Em never does that "boy" shit it was a reference/call back to 80's/90's hip-hop. But I guess the One time he does it it's not okay. There's so many entendres, metaphors, similes, punchlines, moments of unique wordplay, mosaics, multis, and patterns in Rap God and yet Anthony focused negatively on a method most of the rappers he likes use.

    • @scattergoodbeauregard8921
      @scattergoodbeauregard8921 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +il100374 "Multiple times on Good Kid Mad City"
      Eh, arguably twice. In his second "Compton" verse, Kendrick raps, "Won't you spend a weekend on Rosecrans nigga / Khaki creasing, crime increasing on Rosecrans nigga / Kendrick Conan nigga." And technically, you can throw in the last two lines from his second "Sing About Me" verse, but Kendrick's voice is fading at that point. These are five lines from a 12-song album that features about 40 Kendrick verses (obviously including his "Compton" collab verse with Dr. Dre). On the other hand, Eminem rolls with the "lookin' boy" gimmick for about 10 lines, but this is immaterial because nowhere in the video does Anthony criticize him for that.

    I didn't like the song at first either but for me n for some of my hip hop heads friends now they really like the track it grew on them and it grew on me and now I really like the song yeah I agree with the bars but that's Eminem he fucks around a lot but the whole feel on the song just I love it now I know that this is four years old but do you feel the same now? Has it grown on you?

    I wasn't really impressed with the track either. I think it's overhyped by fans who cling on to the old eminem. Somone actually said to me that the last few eminem albums weren't that good because he stopped using the word faggot in his lyrics.

    it was actually around 8 years before Infinite on a track called "Foolish Pride." He talks about it on Yellow Brick Road off of Encore, one of the only good songs off of that album

  • @LordKiba123

    I agree in some points you gave, although let me just take you back to one of many Eminem's biggest track. "Mosh" in the line he says "Let me simplify the rhyme just to amplify the noise". I've liston to Eminem since I'm 8 years old, and I know I'm not an expert, and I also know, that many people have more knowledge than me, but I think that in that quote you'll find Em giving you an answer to his "Simple jokes" or lines.

    Is this the reason that Eminem ended up copying the “Licensed to Ill” artwork on his next album?
    Way too big of a coincidence to be one.

    What makes it so crazy to wrap your head around him is the fact that he does a lot of different things well but and I feel this is why people hate on him so much for bad projects. Because he has moments where he slips up with each aspect of his music. So if it's a project that falls short it's like fuck man he had some corny punchlines. Or man that shit was deep but the hook was a too sing-songy. Ect. Ends up being an attack on him as a whole. When he completely kills it on many songs and projects.

    MMLP II is not his greatest album, but it is probably the best album since Encore. I'm still a fan, though. I totally get your opinion, though. And mostly agree with your opinion of Berzerk. I think in the flow of the album it works, but as a single it was a poor choice. Rap God, though, is nearly perfect. Should have been the first single and everyone would have loved it.
