Continuing on from my theme of looking back of the rugby memories I’ve collected over the years at Hilton College, I’ve decided to launch a series of videos profiling some of the standout players that played for the Hilton College 1stXV during this time. Today’s video:
Matthew Dahl
Scrumhalf
Hilton College 1stXV 2014 & 2015 (Captain)
SA Schools A (Captain)
Sharks u18 Cravenweek 2015 (Captain)
SA u16 Green Squad
Sharks u16 Grant Khomo 2013 (Vice-Captain)
Matthew, head of school in 2015, was an incredible all-round rugby player and had outstanding leadership ability on and off the pitch. He played in the 2020 Varsity Cup for Maties who had a powerful run of performances until the tournament got called off due to Covid-19.
Mr Greg Miller: “Matthew was deceptively fast and this, coupled with the ability to see space, gave him the ability to be really dangerous on attack. His low centre of gravity made him tough to bring down. He loved the blind side and teams that weren’t awake would be punished. He had great leadership ability, both on and off the field, and was very comfortable leading from the front. A really good all round player.”
Mr Brad Macleod-Henderson: “Matthew was a talented rugby player with a strong pass and accurate kick. He also enjoyed running at the defenders and had the ability to make the right decisions. Combining this with his pace and competitive streak made him a handful for defending teams.”
