Hey! My name is Natalie and I love sharing about my life as a mom and homemaker/homesteader. Around here we embrace the coziness in the chaos and the magic in the mundane. I believe simple joys and a home filled with love (not STUFF) are more important than "keeping up with the Joneses." I'm glad you stopped by! I hope you find some encouragement and gentle motivation and a cozy corner of the internet that's full of peace.

I'm 59 and was just diagnosed with scoliosis a couple years ago. I cracked my tailbone in the 5th grade and have degenerative disc disease. None of it stops me from walking 4 1/2 miles every day and living my best life.
Love this! I was diagnosed at age 7. While I've had some difficulty through the years, I'm still living life beautifully, at almost 40!
So proud of you! Thats exactly how you should handle it! It sucks but keeping your mind and body sharp is a prevention and a repair
As someone who has multiple chronic and cares for a spouse with an incurable chronic illness, I definitely feel for you as you’re the thick of figuring out what’s going on. Definitely sending prayers for peace for you as this process continues and wisdom for your professionals treating for you.
Also, needed this today. Sometimes just hearing that someone else has had a lot going on personally that impacts the flow of house chores too. It just helps you feel less alone as you’re resetting your home for week and getting back into your routine.
Appreciate your videos!
So kind of you to serve your husband with a clean tidy home to enjoy when he comes home from serving others. ❤❤
I love that you are not buying new decor for the shelves and shopping around your home! Amazing what treasures we can find within our space to give new style to another room or book in our home!
We don’t have a garage, but we do have a basement that stores paint supplies, tools, nuts and bolts, etc. I’d really love to see a video on declutterring and organizing that type of space! Glad you’re feeling better!
My husband and I were both saying that this has been the most eventful January. It feels like it has been non-stop. We found out on January 2 that our little baby had double hernias and he had to have surgery a week later. Then we were car shopping for over a week trying to find a new family car, and my husband also started grad school this month too.
Yes please share your declutter & organization of the garage/storage! We are in the same boat. Remodeling our 2nd home and there’s so many random pieces - ugggghhh
Even before you asked about the the "shower curtain" I was thinking it was not exactly the right fit to go with the flooring.
Hi Natalie, I know how you feel. I had a major back surgery a few years ago, and now I'm having a bigger one. I live every day in pain and limited mobility. The only thing I can say is don't push yourself to the point of pain that has you in tears. I don't have to push myself, but I have tears from the pain. I will keep you in my prayers❤
I'm sorry. Back pain is the worst. I dont know if this can help or at least take the edge off but, my friend found a topical magnesium oil at our local healthfood store and she used it on her neck to stop some bad headaches she was suffering. I then found a magnesium lotion made by life-flo on amazon. I shared it with her & she said it also works. I've used it on joint pain and it works for me & is low cost, so is worth a try. It doesn't feel different the moment I put it on, but a couple hours later I'll realize the pain is gone. Good luck.
I’m watching trying to calm down after hearing some bad news 😢 I am stressed friends. Thanks for being here! 💓
I hope things get better, friend! Sending love and peace!
I’m sorry. I hope you’re feeling better.
Sending love ❤❤
Praying for you right now ❤
Hope you’re ok ! Praying for you now.
I completely agree! January feels like it’s already been like 6 months long!
Omg yes, this never ends 😂
And just think here comes February. The shortest month of the year that seems to take a lifetime to pass. 😆
@ So true😂
No better medicine for the flu than snuggling up with our pet bunny in my lap with a cozy blanket and a cup of tea while watching your videos, Natalie! I’m going to go watch the Patreon one right now! 💕 The bathroom looks so beautiful! 😍
Get well soon! 🩵
Complety understand the random construction stuff. We are renovating our house. I also homeschool our 3 kids plus care for my mom, who has dementia. I can't begin to tell you how relatable this video is to me.
Definitely work with the manufacturer or your floors. There have been lots of recalls. We purchased our house in 22, brand new. But started having similar issues with our floors. Turns out there was over 100,000 sq ft of just our particular flooring recalled. They came out and replaced them all (the week of Thanksgiving) for no charge. Sadly, we are already noticing issues with the new floors 🤦🏻♀️
Oh man, glad January is over ! Bathroom looks great. Maybe a white or cream shower curtain. Beautiful floor.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who needs a lot of time to put Christmas away ! I took the bows off my wreaths but left them in the doors for January.
I’m glad you’re getting answers about your health Natalie ! God bless you !
I was diagnosed with scoliosis at 11 years old, but it was super minor at that time. When I was 20, I slipped on the bathroom floor in my dorm and in my effort to not fall, I threw my back out. That injury made the scoliosis worse over time, but I didn’t realize the full extent of that issue until I was about 25/26 years old. I was working a chef and was having so much back pain and hip pain and random off and on numbness in part of my upper left leg. I saw a chiropractor and based on the X-rays he took, I was months away from having to have surgery to correct my scoliosis. He was able to mostly correct it with adjustments and was able to reverse my hip misalignment as well. He was a life saver. I moved states so I don’t see him anymore, but I’d recommend him to everyone.
Out of curiosity, is he a Gonstead chiro?
@ no, he’s in Massachusetts
I actually feel like the time is flying by! I normally feel like January lasts forever, but not this year.
Same!
Am glad to hear that you are doing and feeling much better. Also, love how the guest bathroom turned out and the decor. 😍😘
My month has been going similarly. I had the flu, then strep, then a reaction to the antibiotics, then a cold and now a very painful neck injury. This all happened at the holidays and at the start of some of our home projects.
personal opinion - the shower curtain is too cool toned for your space! I think a warmer tone would pull in so well with the paint color and warm wood ❤❤
Ive also got scoliosis in my lower back. I was diagnosed as a young child, told it had disappeared, but it hadnt. Im 57 now & have other pain issues as well.
I have a good physiotherapist, & do exercises in bed every morning to keep me functioning at " my best". Also a twin Mum here!
Make bins for your garage with more generic labels and just throw it in the bins. We have one for plumbing, electrical, hand tools, painting, misc. Etc
This!! We have bins for plumbing, electrical, painting/drywall, heavy duty electric cords (we have many), garden supplies, can't remember the rest. So incredibly helpful. They're on a stand in the garage and out of the way.
I don't know if a plum or similarly dark shower curtain wouldn't be too overwhelming (yes, since you mentioned it I see bones) but maybe a cream (or other warm tone) with a plum pattern would be a bullseye for this space, but you have to like it. I love this transformation! Greetings from Poland ❤
I send my best wishes for your health! Thank you for sharing ❤
Love the curtains in the bathroom, the colour is so nice and gives it some depth. Love the vase and shelves too!
Bones 🤣🤣🤣 I love that curtain! My vote would be to keep it. It’s beautiful. Love your videos as always! Your channel is so incredibly peaceful for me. I appreciate you.
I love the bathroom remodel! ❤️ We use a fabric shower liner for our bathroom instead of a true curtain and love it! It's easy to clean. Just pop it in the wash once a month or so. Keeps things light and air and clean looking.
Hope the pt helps! I was diagnosed at 10 and it got worse as I got older, 2 back braces as a teen & worse after kids. I have weekly chiro treatments & stretch daily is the only thing that helps.
The bathroom looks warm and calming. I'm thinking, what about an ivory or swiss coffee colour curtain ❤ the coffee and tea tray you made could be used for a next gathering with friends or family. Take care
We’re about to move to a fixer upper house and thanks for the idea to immediately have a diy materials storage spot! That’s not something I’d have thought of after living in rentals for ten years.
So glad they could give you an update at doctors! Loved today’s video. Hope you get to feeling better soon! 😊
That’s very smart and practical to keep the one bathroom guest ready!
You might consider geting a paper cup holder for your guests to use. I use a glass and put the cups (I use the 2 0z size) in with the lip of the cup down in the glass. I think it is more sanitary than an actual glass that needs to be cleaned all the time. ❤
I didn't even think bones, I just thought hey that's pretty. Now that's all I see too! Haha! Love the shelves and light fixtures so much!
You are so sweet thanks for sharing Will be praying for you .try to get some rest if you can love your bathroom everything looks great ❤❤❤❤❤
I love your channel! So inspiring and real. You do such a great job of being relatable to the average person trying to improve there life and I just wanted to say that I really appreciate that💛
Girl, I feel you. Christmas eve our septic backed up due to a tree root stopping up the line, and an over-achieving sump pump meant that all our toilets backed up and overflowed and the bathtubs were full of disgusting gunk. Christmas Eve! So it was a whole 2 days before we could get someone out to fix the problem. What a mess! Funny to talk about now, but definitely not funny at the time. I'm also a fellow scoliosis-haver, so hip and low back pain is ever in my life. Staying active helps better than anything, but all in moderation. Overdoing things can also cause flare-ups, as I'm sure you have discovered. It's just something to have, not something that defines you. Happy New Year, and wishing you and your family the best for 2025 (if we ever get out of January. It has to be the 113th by now!)
Wow, the shelf decor turned out really nice, especially since you "shopped" what you already had! Very nice! 👍👏
Glad you're feeling better.
"mr bones shower curtain" 😂 now I can't unsee it either! 🫣 Personally, I would go with something that has some black accents to compliment the flooring.
Peace is eating popcorn on my couch while the baby sleeps 😂❤
Yesssssss!
It’s definitely giving Mr. Bones vibes, especially from more of a distance. I didn’t see it ‘til you mentioned it, but definitely saw it after. But that shade of curtain is so beautiful in there!
My daughter has just been diagnosed with scoliosis after a year plus of waiting to see a specialist now we are waiting to see the spine team to see what happens next. I had it when I was a teenager but I think it’s sorted now with lots of special exercises and sleeping on a board this was 40 years ago for me so things were different then. Hope you get it sorted soon ❤
Heyyyyyy I was diagnosed with scoliosis in my lower back this last summer as well! My mom always suspected it since I was a child, she said I “have a funny gait” like my grandpa, but my pediatrician always said I was fine. Never bothered to X-ray me though, just checked my upper back and measured my legs. The curvature is in my hips though so it’s not really noticeable if you don’t know what to look for in my gait.
Very relatable! We've been in a few apartments for the past several years. We just moved to this one over the summer, and my tile sealant is currently living in the "laundry+chemicals" room while the (sanitized) shop-vac is living in my "pantry+clean storage" room and the camp chairs and extension cords are in the "coat-closet+less-clean storage" closet in the entry. 😂 It's been funny trying to figure out where to put things in this place. It has a wonderful open floorplan, but that does necessarily make storage a little more blended.
A long month yes. My 3 year old swallowed a quarter (not my younger 2 year old, like you would expect). And after picking up a virus at the emergency room almost a month ago he is now sick for the third time this month. Other things too so real long month!!
Hi Natalie you sure give me so much motivation love watching your videos Blessings ❤️🙏🏽
Watching from the UK love your channel its so heart warming and cosy , your bathroom remodel is beautiful, on another note my daughter had Scoliosis at 14 she had a 97 degree curvature she had operation she's now 31 ,hope your health improves for you 😊
I'm just glad that you are doing fine
Oh gosh. Sorry to hear of your health issues. Hope you get some answers!!
Some areas have "Re-Store", where you can donate building supplies stuff, its run by Habitats for Humanity so that families can get some building supplies much cheaper, there may be that or similar in your area where you can donate the bits and bobs!
We’ve donated and purchased from there many times!!! In fact, our kitchen backsplash is almost completely from a Re-Store!
All i see are bones now too 😂 thanks Natalie ❤😂
I was diagnosed with Scoliosis at 13 - 45 years ago and underwent surgery have two Harrington rods either side of spine my curve was 45degrees struggle with chronic pain these days
It's the end of the afternoon here, so with my chili on the stove and just a bit of time before the cornbread needs to go into the oven, I'm taking the time for your video while crocheting on the couch. My moment of peace and quiet before sports tonight.
So glad you’re here, friend! 🩵
I’m also setting in bed watching her and crocheting ❤
We had that same thing happen about 7 years age happen to our plumbing. Oh I’m so grateful to amazing plumbers!! I couldn’t do that job lol.
Love the bathroom floor!!
Today was my day for returns to ups, lowes(from a cabinet project), Amazon and declutters to church and goodwill,
I've been eyeing those shelves! They look so good in your space. I do agree with another commenter that a darker/moody curtain would look best. You have great taste and always love your remodel/make over content ❤
Love all of your bathroom remodel, but that floor is stunning 😍.
Your bathroom remodel is beautiful and looks so cozy
We’ve had our main drain snaked 3 times in the last few years. Old house + old pipes + roots = not fun things coming up in the bathtub!
January usually does feel forever long, but not this year. It's been preparing for multiple events and then getting blindsided by by immediate medical needs needing to be fit in as well. Tomorrow in fact i have to drop off my spouse for an outpatient procedure test thing and then I'm off for a root canal (that got scheduled today after a weekend toothache) before picking them back up to go home. Then kids are in a wedding this weekend. More craziness is scheduled for next month....😮
My grandma always had shells and sand dollars in her bathroom :) Good memories. And she never once changed her decor.
What you called “reversed decluttering” is known as “hushing a room.” I think that Myquillyn Smith talks about that in her book “Cozy Minimalist,” but I haven’t read it. I heard about hushing a room from The Minimal Mom. I did that with my kitchen counters. It was so helpful to see the potential of my kitchen and what I felt was necessary.
Natalie, I'm praying for restoration in your back and body. You are such an absolute Joy, may you always be able to shine God's light to the world. Also, where do you find such beautiful music for your videos? Could you possibly share the artists or links? Thank you so much. Sending love from Michigan
When your video started you invited everybody to join I got up and cleaned my kitchen +oven and did laundry 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
January has been rough over here for us too. I was hoping for a rejuvenating month but it’s been the opposite. I’m sorry to hear about the hip and back troubles. Always something. Hang in there! With the shower curtain, I would go with a solid white or black and let the floor be the star of the show. Just my two cents. Also thanks for the reverse decluttering idea!
Thank you for sharing ❤
It definitely feels long but I've been enjoying the long January to take a breath just because 2024 felt so fast for us
I love love the curtains they are gorgeous …. Funny saying they look like bones but i dont think so … they are really soft and cosy. Lovely makeover ❤
The bathroom came out fantastic!! Love the floor!❤
Natalie…sorry you’re having such a difficult time with your health…I know sometimes things get us down but the blessings far outweigh the difficulties. Your bath looks lovely, especially since you decorated your shelf…now the curtain looks like it belongs! Blessings, Miss Linda 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Love your bathroom, you guys always do amazing projects 😄
Good morning Natalie from Seattle..Please stay healthy and happy..Love and hugs and prayers..❤
31 and also have scoliosis! As does my 33yr old sis who struggles with migraines. You're not alone!
I also was diagnosed with lower back scoliosis , a year ago. Mine just turned up. It was always normal, cause I was a dancer. I was always healthy. But, it’s ok with exercise.
Glad you’re on track to discovering the cause of your hip & back discomfort…..we know God is walking beside you…..the bathroom looks great!
I found out I have scoliosis this year too! So weird that it was missed for so long.
oooh i'd love a messy to minimal episode on organizing tools and screws, but in a way that its like practical to add new random tool stuff too. This is a problem at our place too:))
Yeah, all I see is bones, too! You need a black & white shower curtain! I'm sorry you're hurting so bad! I have Scoliosis too & also my oldest has very bad & my younger daughter has that & Fibromyalgia also was in car accident so she can't work & her fiancee's is on dyaliss & I feel so for both of them! My older daughter is working & she does exercising. She runs & some exercises too! So it can be very bad! Swimming is the best for me & I ride my stationary bike! So I hope you get to feeling better! Getting older isn't fun! I think January has been long too! Thanks for sharing! Take care! I would like to see garden videos! ❤️😉🫂🐾📓✏️🧶🧵🪡🍄🦋✨️
Could you share where your dress is from? It is lovely.
It’s a Madewell one that I thrifted years ago. Literally my favorite piece of clothing ever!
The bathroom curtains are so cute… but once you said bones, it’s all I see too😜. Bathroom looks fresh but cozy🥰🥰🥰
Any chance you have a link for the light fixture on the ceiling? Love it! ❤
Gave the dog a haircut and bath, cleaned the litter box and having lunch watching you! My Factor meals are being delivered today!!
Flooring is gorgeous! Link please!
Our Christmas totes are still out too cause we have to organize our storage space before we can put them back 🤣
Scoliosis can also affect your digestive tract among other organs
I have scoliosis I've had it all my life since I was a kid and it started out minor just the bottom of my spine and then as I was getting older it just gets worse and now it's my whole spine. So during the winter months my back gives me a hard time
We took our shower doors off and never looked back! Highly recommend 😉
I tried to order factor. FedEx delivered the first order 2 weeks late and my second order never arrived I’m sure it’s not Factors fault but I just canceled and said forget it. I was really looking forward to trying it.
That’s such a bummer! I would definitely give it another try when severe weather isn’t delaying deliveries of everything! Did you reach out to Factor customer service? When I’ve had delays that were not even Factor’s fault they have been incredible at offering refunds and/or credits!
I thought I had scoliosis, until I learned that true scoliosis requires the vertebrae to have actually changed shape to accommodate the curve - "functional scoliosis" is actually just curvature due to compensation from an out-of-balance base and foundation (pelvis and sacrum), though there can also be injuries further up the spine that affect the curves, but it's not real scoliosis. Unfortunately, the vertebrae that are out in my spine mimic a spinal cord injury, necessitating a wheelchair for certain situations, but my chair is my freedom, so I don't begrudge it one bit.
Our very “fancy” garage system is an organized toolbox and a very unorganized bin with overflow of random things. It works because we always know where the random things are. 😂
Natalie - I haven't watched the whole video yet, but hearing about some of your health issues wanted to encourage you to check into Ehlers Danlos syndrome if you haven't already. It often goes undiagnosed for years. Worth checking out!
What is the test for that
@@michellehill9706 Depends on the type of EDS - there are 13 different ones, and all but one can be diagnosed with genetic testing; info can be found on the Ehlers-Danlos Society website, including the list of diagnostic criteria for any doctor to diagnose the hypermobile type (the one type whose genetic mutation has yet to be identified). I was diagnosed with the hypermobile type at 28 1/2, after something happened at 26 that indicated that there was a good chance that I had it; looking back, it affected me at least as early as 3, and probably all the way back when I was a baby; my best friend was diagnosed with it at 14, but it runs in her family, so they got the genetic testing done way back then (she and I are affected differently, so that's one of the reasons I didn't suspect it way back then, even though it was already causing me problems back then).
Putting the pans in the oven 🤫 😂❤
I thought you had stopped doing you tube because I haven’t seen you in so long. As it turns out, I somehow was unsubscribed! What!? Glad you are still here.
yes! need help with tools and house fixing stuff. We don't do much of that type of stuff ourselves but we still have a bunch of it. Everyone needs a screw driver and hammer, right? But how to store stuff like that when you don't really use it often?
Missed the change for Weston to full-time ministry. Is there a video where you discussed this?
Here’s the video! HUGE change for our family: th-cam.com/video/NnF6QNYMhLY/w-d-xo.html
We've been going through very similar home issues (sewage stuff, and random issues coming up) since Christmas. Finally getting back on track.
As for your shower curtain I didn't see bones, but did see cotton swabs 🤣
Cotton swabs! That’s it! I’m returning this thing! 😆
@NatalieBennett sorry! The color is super cute, and it could serve as a great conversation starter 😅 but as for decoration I'm not sure it checks all the boxes!
Do a video on re organizing your tools jyst saying ut will motivate others
The bathroom curtain… I thought it was pretty but now that you mention the bones I cannot unsee it🤣 personally I would choose another color and texture… maybe something on the simple and smooth side to complement the tile and contrast the wood and warm colors.
I have to agree, the curtain doesn't feel right in that space 😊
