Very nice tutorial! Thank you Roma. Wondering, what settings would you recommend for using this camera as an action cam? I use it to record my long gravel bike rides, which sometimes start or end in the night, but also have bright sunlight parts, and intermittently dark paths in the woods, too. I need the waterproof filter due to occasional rains. So far I used the auto setting 4k, 50fps, RS. Is there any better option for such varied circumstances?
Hi Roma, thanks for the video, best of Action 4 video on the youtube IMO! Just curious would you gets do a comparison with Pocket 3 or Ace Pro, seeing how well u handle the action 4 especially the Low Light shot, so cinematic. Thanks!🖖
Thank you! I’ll probably do a comparison with the Pocket 3, but I can tell you right away that the Pocket 3 yields better image quality. It’s not a night and day difference, but it’s noticeable.. You can watch my latest video where I used the Pocket 3 in low light to see how clean the footage is..
Hi. Enjoyed your video but I have one question. When you are adjusting the white balance because of different light intensities/types or lighting color how do you know what number to set it to? Are you just guessing or can you see the difference on the camera screen?
I found the same results that you need higher shutter to remove that weird ghosting artifact going on with the stabilization. I try to leave it at 1/100 even at 24fps it does make the shots look too "crisp" but that jittery effect is just too distracting. I just can't accept the light loss beyond 1/100 it sucks losing exposure as it gets darker. Do you use Low Light Ehancement or Image adjustment w/e it is called? Not sure if you mentioned it in video.
Unless I missed it in your video, you did not mention the setting of Low Light Image Enhancement. At 1:20 your Action 4 screen shows it turned Off, I think. Could you comment on this, please? Does it shut off because you are in Manual exposure mode, or is it shut off due to a conflicting setting, or is it off because you have a reason to dislike it? Also, I know you use Final Cut Pro but have you had feedback on anyone using your D-Log M LUT in DaVinci Resolve? I have seen some YT people saying the Action 4 Log footage is difficult to color grade in DaVinci Resolve. I'm not a colorist so I usually avoid Logs but I thought the Action 4 might influence me to try the D-Log M. Thank you for your quality video here and your results are beautiful.
Low Light Enhancement shuts off because I'm filming in D-Log M. To use it, you have to switch to Normal color mode. As for color correcting, I don't think that it's hard with the Action 4. All that is necessary is to add contrast and saturation to make it look normal. My LUT does exactly that. However, If you don't have any experience with LOG footage, I'd just stick to Normal color mode to avoid headache..
@@Romafedorov Thank you so much for clarifying the Low Light Enhancement and the Log question. In fact, Normal Color setting looks very good on so many YT videos I've seen. As soon as I get my Custom Cx presets loaded tomorrow, I'll be trying my first Action 4 filming, can't wait! Thank you!
I have a question for the exposure settings: When in PRO mode and the exposure set to M (for manual) can you set the framerate and shutterspeed to a locked value and then only set the ISO setting to a variable setting like 100-800? So the exposure would looke like this: 25 fps - 1/50 shutter - 100-800 ISO. You don't show this because you always scroll down to the locked ISO values, but in situations where light rapidly changes (like fast paced street riding) it's benificial to have set framrate and shutterspeed to keep correct blur and 180 shutter, but for correct exposure the ISO then needs to be variable. Hope you can help. Cheers.
I wondered why the environment looks so familia until you mentioned at 08:20 that you are currently in Thailand. I'm getting Pocket 3 tomorrow at DJI Siam Paragon. Welcome to Thailand, after watching your contents for a while, I'm your new subscriber.
Thanks for the sub, I’m going to the mall tomorrow to see if they have it. They told me it’s going to be available on the 7th. Also, I’ve been living in Thailand for like 7 years.

Hi, Roma. This video has been really useful, but I still have a question. I want to vlog at night in the New York Christmas decoration. Since I will be vlogging myself, I can't do "ninja walking", so, if I set ISO auto to 100-6400, and turn RockSteady on (I don't know how to use GyroFlow), which would be the best shutter speed and frames per second to get the best stabilization at night? Thanks for your help. Cheers.
Sir, why does Gyroflow does not recognized lens or yellow warning bar at the top of the interface of my DJI action 4 osmo? My only solution is using warp stabilizer of Adobe Premiere or Afx.
I have been doing all this wrong. I used the 4K 120p setting which makes it very difficult to edit in post production. Please guide me. I have one question, What app do you use to edit the footage? and also please educate us on other operations on Action 4.
No worries. For motorcycle riding at night, I’d probably use a shutter speed of 1/120-1/160, auto ISO(max 6400) and EV at 0.0. Otherwise, the best option is to somehow mount a mini gimbal.
In practicality, would you choose Pocket 3 as you don't have to do the Ninja walking? I like action 4 form factor more, but for night shot at least, pocket 3 seems better as you don't have to care so much: you don't have to do Ninja walking.
The best one I used with the GoPro is the Hohem iSteady Pro4. I think it's compatible with the Action 4, but you should ask Hohem. I made a video about it here: th-cam.com/video/P3c7oijZd9c/w-d-xo.html
Hi, may i know if your Action4 unit have hot pixel issue during long exposure photo or time lapse shot? I tested 3 units and all have some form of hot pixel at above 10 sec exposure, even at ISO100. Keen to know if other owners have this issue too. Thanks.
I'm thinking of getting this for my airsoft videos as upgrade for my insta360 OneRS and i shoot in darker locations and go high action on an action camera -- what settings do you use for much darker locations? do you have sample videos of darker locations?
Great video! I have been following action 4 closely, but I often find myself shooting in low-light environments, such as city nightscapes. I have always been curious about the actual shooting performance of action 4 in such conditions. Could you share a raw video clip that you have captured in low-light environment, perhaps through Google Drive or Dropbox?
I want to shoot videos like you, I like to vlog and capture moments outdoors and I'm stuck what to buy in my price range i'e Iphone 13 or DJI action 4 or any camera in this price range : can you please tell which one to select as I'm confused which one to choose for shooting videos ? can you please tell which camera is best for shooting videos at this price (considering low light capture). I'm want to use my camera outdoors for vlogging or shoot random high quality videos. I thought of taking pocket 3 since it performs very well in low light as well but I'm too scared of breaking it.
Hi Roma. Any tips when using Gyroflow? My footage gets stabilized but with some ghosting. Am I required to use a faster shutter speed? I'm using 50. Thanks. Do you have any videos on Gyroflow?
To be honest, I don’t have that much experience with Gyroflow. However, I’m certain that if you increase your shutter speed, you’ll get much better results, but in this case I’d already use Rocksteady..
thanks for the reply. I tried 200 shutter speed and it got rid of the ghosting. Gyroflow recommends faster shutter for action cams. I guess the logic is the same like with Catalyst Browse. Gyroflow is going to help a lot when you dont want to carry a gimbal. Im a big fan of your channel. Cant wait when you get the Pocket 3. Hi thanks for your video. I try with my Action 4 to work on Gyroflow but looks very bad because the ghost is very strong with minimal movement too. That "Lens hood cover" everyone talks about is just a temporary cover in case the actual lens gets broken and you're waiting for a replacement, thats what it says on the sticker of it yet it seems most havent read the sticker lol

@RomaFedorov You still need ninja walking with a gimbal, since it is only 3 axis. In fact, EIS is superior, except it requires high shutter speeds.
