Shea, I've watched or helped deliver over 100 foals, the excitement and the miracle of life that it brings NEVER gets old. And I've been doing this for just over 30 yrs now. The joy of every birth always is amazing. The heartache comes when it's a stillborn foal. I've had 4 in all those years. And I've cried with the owners over every single one of them. Thankfully, were still able to find a foal for them. They became nurse mares to rejected foals or foals whose own mother didn't make it. We were very lucky that way. The foals belonged to other people, the mares to the owners I was working for, but in the end, what did it matter. The mares had had foals before and were looking for their babies. We presented these foals very carefully to them, and they adopted them with ease. Thankfully. When they were weaned, they went to their owners, and by then the mares had been bred back and were expecting again. The following year, it was a different story. All their foals survived. But I do know this, if we hadn't been able to find any foals for them to love on, we might have lost at least one of the mares. She was so grief stricken that she wouldn't eat. Not even hay. So she was the first mare we gave a foal to. As soon as the foal arrived and started to nurse, she immediately started to munch down on hay. She had gone 16 hours without eating!! We were so worried about her. The foal arrived just in time to save her life, literally. The other 3 foals all arrived that same day, but the other mares had been eating, but nickering for their foals. As for Ezzy touching the electric fence, if it's there they all have to learn somehow that it's there. Usually it's their shoulder or butt though. I hope her lip was OK. I absolutely love Esmerelda's markings. Her blue eyes and long eyelashes are gorgeous...and her black points are striking. And her dorsal stripe.... Plus she's obviously smart! I like how the rest of the herd eventually went back to grazing.
I think Bella had backed into position to give one of the horses in the other paddock a good bunch of kicks if they didn’t stay away from her baby when they were in the alley. Belle is good and protective momma.
I love watching, again and again, Belle and her flowing picturesque mane as she trots alongside her foal! No words to describe! Yes yes.. "poetry in motion" Such a delight
Belle's gait shows her gaited horse ancestry. Smooth as silk is her trot. Esmeralda looks to have Liustitania, Quarter Horse or Percheron. She is so shaggy with her shed. She's adorable though
Belle seems to have a "lucky horseshoe" on her face/forehead???? Darker hair in the shape of a shoe.......a really fortunate sign. She is such a good mama, the filly is as long legged as a ballerina on her toes. So satisfying to watch them together.
Such a sturdy, strong foal and a nice mover. She looks incredible. Both mother and foal look great. You are a great horse caretaker. It will be interesting when we get Esmeralda's DNA info.
I've had a fear of horses cause they are big, really big to me. I will watch this pair with the world and know I've seen and heard true beauty. I love to watch them tho.
Just watched this again! 🥰🥰🥰 I love how Belle moves! It's such a delight just to watch her. And now, Ezzy is the same way! She moves so much like her Mama. So neat to go back and watch when she was just a baby! (and the mean fence biting her was sad but cute lol)
Esmelerda's confirmation is just as great as her Mommas. She is going to grow up as beautiful as Belle I'm sure. I'd recommend having them micro-chipped if you haven't already. Those two are famous internet stars now. Love watching the baby learn about her surroundings. Her fuzzy topknot is cute. ❤ 🐎

I was really concerned about the birth to raising the foal in a open shelter but it proved to be very safe and work out well for Belle and her filly ❤ You have done a wonderful job Shae ❤

That was so precious - Mamma horse kept redirecting her away from fence many times, then let it happen (all logical, rational) Baby bolted, returned to Mamma, they even touched heads : understanding now. Foal was in a bit of a "finding out moment" several times seeing you and the whole place with new eyes and staunchly comfortably bonding even more determinedly to mind her Mamma and recognised you, as well. What footage stellar footage. Amazing, heart touching and real life ❤❤❤😊
I'm so happy that Belle turned up at that auction. That she gets to go to her forever home, WITH YOU! And the icing on the cake (pun indented) was Esmerelda as a surprise gift from God.

It is such a blessing to experience foals. We have a ranch up in Wyoming. It’s incredible to bond to the land!!! You can’t replicate that peace. Ranching since 1898,.. 138,000 acres deeded,.. 200,000 blm. Rotational pastures for 1200 pair and 65 head of horses. They are the backbone! God bless you and take care!. Keep it coming!!
I’m a believer in serendipity, Belle and Esmeralda are meant to be yours. Ezzy is magnificent, she has such beautiful markings, and Belle couldn’t be a better mother. I’m so happy for y’all to go through the joys of raising a foal.

Officially, Essy is our new favourite waste of time. Endlessly fascinating and lovely. Glad they got to see the boys up closer so they could get a turn figuring the new arrival. I hope they will get lots of little opportunities to say hello over the fence until one day, when Essy is ready she can be introduced properly into her new herd family.
