  • Using a GoPro HD Hero camera shooting one frame every 2 seconds, we made our trip from Los Angeles to Ogden, Utah (and beyond) appear to happen at 60 times normal speed! If only we could actually travel this fast, then our friends in California would see us more often.

I grew up in L.A.and now live in Tooele. Made that trip so many times but I like yours the best. LOL! You make those long stretches of desert highway seem interesting rather than yawn inducing boredom. Thanks for reminding me why I only go back to L.A. every few years!! :)

Laure Lind How do you like it there? I'm from orange county and am looking to move to Provo, Ogden, or Salt Lake.

The battery would last about two hours, just as it would shooting regular video. However, I used a GoPro "Skeleton" case and I plugged a USB cable into the camera (with a power supply inside the car). I taped the cable to the edge of the windshield so that it wouldn't move while the car was traveling. So I didn't rely on the battery power at all during this trip but rather on the USB continuous power.

The GoPro Hero 2 camera can be set to take a still photo every 0.5, 1, 2, 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds. I chose every 2 seconds because if I put those into a sequence at 30 frames per second then one hour of real time would become one minute on video. I used a couple of 32 GB memory cards, knowing that one card wouldn't be enough for the whole trip. I changed cards about two-thirds of the way while we were stopped for gas.

It actually looks more interesting if there are clouds. How did we go 800 miles without any clouds?

How do you set the settings for the 'every 2 seconds' can you adjust it to like every 3 seconds etc? How much memory did this take for the camera

So, you are originally from Ogden? My husband and I live in Socal (near LA). What is your opinion of the city and life there? :)
