- Rick Warren, former pastor of Saddleback Church was recently appointed as Chancellor of Spurgeon’s College. This raised not a few eyebrows given that Warren is now fully egalitarian, meaning that he embraces women as preachers and pastors. Warren assures us, though, that his theology and that of Charles Spurgeon are “identical” on this issue. Is that true? I interview Dr. Ed Romine who just recently wrote his doctoral dissertation on Charles Spurgeon and pose the question to him.

My biggest ministry has been my children. I love being a housewife and mother, training my children in the ways of the Lord. It was my God given desire to be a housewife and mother since I was a teenager. Now I’m seeing the fruits of that. They are now young adults serving the Lord.

I agree Robin. The extensive role wives and mothers play in their home is greater than we know. It’s just unseen by the worlds eyes, but not the LORD’s . Consider Mary’s role in Jesus’ life in those earlier years. I have no issues no issues with scriptural roles given to women. Proverbs wife gives insight on the value of women very well.

Being a stay at home mom and wife is the most important job in the world, because you are nurturing and caring for the next generation and your husband. I lost three, but God is faithful and blessed me with three. The desire He gave me was not in vain. My husband has been one who lives by God’s Word. He has loved me as Christ loves the church. He was supportive during the losses, he has supported me through almost losing my life, having an autoimmune disease and when I fought breast cancer. He always has worked hard, so I could be a stay at home mom. I also homeschooled my children. God has been so good to me and He’s faithful. God bless you, my friend.

This is so disturbing. Thank you for addressing this. To put Warren in that position is a disgrace to Spurgeon, a man who preached Gods Word rightly. Spurgeon would have definitely recognized Warren as a false teacher.

I would never take a leading role at church. But I've shared the Lord on public media for 9 years. Is that wrong??? I can't imagine not being able to share the Lord.
I take every opportunity I find to talk with people off line - like in my senior's apartment building; but the opportunities are limited.
I hate to think I've been grieving the Lord with this. I thought I was honoring Him. 😥♡

@@matthewmadsen3917 That's why I used the word "would" because it is expected of R.C.'s character to respond in such a manner if someone made the same claims as Warren did when he compared himself to Spurgeon in Justin's video about female pastors. Justin is making an informed speculation regarding Spurgeon would have responded to Warren just as I am with R.C., we aren't saying this is absolute truth of what is actually happening. If you want to be consistent, tell the same to Peters and don't make any speculations yourself, even if they are informed speculations.

Warren is a menace to truth and integrity. Thank you, Ed, for so clearly teaching us the truth about Spurgeon and the Word of God.
Whatever one may think of Rick Warren, I don't think that God would have anyone to insult him by calling a menace.We need to remember Jesus called us to be His witnesses and so we must show,, rather a loving and understanding attitude.We can still be firm in convictions without compromise, but we should keep the right attitude for Jesus sake...

There is however also a propensity to add to the guilty one's rap sheet... once they've 'fallen out of grace'. So anything said in terms of accusation should be well documented with verifiable information. One also needs to be careful with hearsay, even if that comes e.g. from trial records or 'reputable sources'. In many cases, once a person or group has been given a bad reputation, people are willing to believe anything bad said about it. And that's when lies, made up stories and false accusations will easily enter the equation. One needs to guard against this, too.
This is why I love your channel, Brother. You bring so many good preachers and teachers into a public space. I watch hours of discernment content and it can be discouraging seeing how many false teachers there are and how widespread false doctrine is. Then I come to this channel and see that there are a multitude of men who are proclaiming the true and sound gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank you Ed as well! Very informative and encouraging as well. I pray that you will be able to find that forever home!

Which to me, it indicates women in the pulpit can’t be fully separated from Women’s Rights/Feminism but my friends who are charismatic won’t admit this.
They misinterpret and misuse Scripture to justify it such as the "Holy Spirit coming upon all flesh," and *in Christ there is no Jew or Greek, male or female." They miss the point to back their own.
When I went to seminary, many people thought that I wanted to be ordained. I went to a seminary that didn't believe in women's ordination! Thank you so much for this! I graduated with MA in Biblical Counseling.

I am so glad you sound men of the faith are exposing these false teachers who are responsible for leading men astray. That’s the whole point of this, is caring for the flock and the reputation of men of Christ AND to top it off are shaking their lies in Gods face. I dread their punishment. God is Holy and to lie about His children does not make Him happy.

My older sister was "saved" in Rick Warren's church and she has wrong theologies. She won't listen to me, and she gets very angry when I try to talk about Rick Warren. But my other older sister graduated from Bethel's School of Supernatural Ministry.
And they live together.
I moved away. God moved me in His grace and mercy.
I keep praying for them. They think I'm the messed up one!

A big shout out to Ed! Praise the Lord for men like you. I could listen to you preach and teach all day long, especially while we have coffee. As for Rick Warren...disgraceful. He deliberately took Spurgeon out of context to justify his lies about women pastors. I'm a woman in my 70's and I tell you truthfully, if a woman ever took the pulpit in my church, I'd get up and walk out shaking the dust from my shoes. How can we believe anything Rick Warren says? @Fred the 47th Thanks what about the praying and prophesying in the church in 1 Cor 11, or sharing a revelation, testimony, or encouraging the gathered folk concerning a word of instruction about a dream God gave her, or giving a testimony of God's miracles of Salvation in the mission field, and then singing a hymn, all these represent 1 Cor 14:26. She's not asking questions with these but innocently and properly edifying the church and glorifying God? Both men and women can do these, this is biblical and God's intent.
Oh my gosh I have “Lectures to My Students” and haven’t read yet. Now I’m energized to get into it.
Of course, NOT reading it to learn to be a pastor, don’t get me wrong! 😂 I just love Spurgeon’s writings.

I saw the "third-wave coffee" in his bio, stopped the video, and searched it. No way did I suspect this dear brother would err in that direction, but, had to know. And you readily addressed it. I read in an article about Rick Warren (a very pro-Rick Warren article I might add) that on at least one occasion he set up in a parking lot and stayed out administering communion to whoever happened to drive up. Think about that. How irresponsible on his part to allow the unregenerate to partake of the elements. Of course, in his mind, he is being Christlike and we are Pharisees. But he's not violating tradition, he is violating scripture. That's the problem.
Ed Romine says it very well. Very clear on the issue and easy to understand.

In 'our' Reformed Churches the matter of women in the pulpit is not talked about enough (many congregations, even denominations, accept lady pastors).
This is maybe a stick in a bees' nest in our country.

Justin, I have a Charles Spurgeon Daily Reading Book that I got as a new Christian & I always enjoyed reading it, though sometimes hard to understand, because of the year he was born in & being English. Can you still purchase his other books? And where online could I find them? This Show today was very good and a joy listening to Ed. Rick Warren and others are trying to match what the world wants, instead of what God wants, clearly in the Word. 😢

I really enjoyed this video - far more than I even thought I would. As a Christian woman, and not even that long in the faith (7 1/2 years as of this comment) I have felt very RELIEVED about the scriptures that say women should not be Pastors or Elders in a church. I've also had a sense that it is my job partly, when I can, to hand out good Biblical Christian tracts. This can be done so simply even a child can do it. You pull the tract out and as someone goes by, politely inquire "Did you get yours yet?" holding out the tract. If they already got one, you don't hazard making them feel pestered, and if they didn't get one, just the thought on their part that "everyone else but me" got one makes them grab it before they even know what it is. When they ask me what it is, I tell them a short description and say that it is a Christian tract. No need to be cagey about it. I have not yet had anyone I've given a tract to want to have a conversation. Perhaps it's my wheelchair, but I'm fine with that. I get more tracts out if the people keep moving. HOWEVER, when it comes to family and friends, I have a DEEP burden to talk one on one with them in earnest to explain God's law, how they (and if they admit it finally, we have all) broken God's commandments more times over than we can count, it becomes obvious we're in trouble and headed to the "bad place" (hell, for all of eternity with no parole and no rest!). So we need a rescue plan. What do you know, God has already worked that all out. And if there is any concern at all on the part of the person (always female) I'm talking to, I then explain salvation through Christ as being Him stepping into our place and paying that eternal debt we could never pay. And then explaining that through true repentance (and what that looks like) and throwing all our faith into Christ and not at all on our works, we can be saved. Those are the ones I pray and pray about before I do them. That's it for me in my situation, but it's plenty enough to keep me busy. So I was very glad to hear this podcast video.

Just want to say how much I love this channel. Secondly, I’m currently at Spurgeons finishing my second year there, and they are readily training and ordaining women for pastoral ministry and have many female ministers in house. So although I agree completely with this, I don’t know to what extent it will change having Rick Warren on board other than to affirm what is already taking place. Sad.

I had a woman " Pastor" tell me well, God used a donkey to speak to a man. In later years i learned the answer i should have said which Is " yes, but the donkey wasnt in a pulpit teaching and usurping authority over the men. "

This brother is brilliant and gifted.
It is unfortunate when history appears to be being rewritten. For example, the leadership of the Dean Burgon society seem to not only have misunderstood Burgon, but don't seem to care that they misrepresent him, even putting thoughts and words into his mouth. Today, many Baptist ministers are similarly misrepresenting Spurgeon. They appear to ignore that he took the Metropolitan tabernacle out of the Baptist union during what he described as the 'downgrade'.
I went to a preaching conference at Spurgeon’s college about 17 years ago; there was a woman Pentecostal preacher there giving one of the sermon examples. Also women “ministers” in the audience.

Brothers I do door to door evangelism, but there's always a brother with me. I truly think its a protection to us women not to preach or share the gospel with men. I'm not a man, don't think like a man, don't have feelings like a man and don't have experiences like a man.

Disturbing over the years of seeing arrogance of the flesh grow within Rick Warren. This is what happens when the crucified life traded for a purpose driven one. In reading biopics on Spurgeon and his life, Rick's doctrine and life is far from the posture and doctrine of Charles Spurgeon. From what I read and sermons given by Charles, he was humble enough to when his conscience was confronted by a congregant about his attitude on an occasional drink of British ale, he quit because of concerns of how others in England where misusing it. Spurgeon's literature on the Downgrade was interesting as well. Nothing like Warren. Spurgeon would chastise Rick in what he has stated about the Catholic church as well.
