    Carl was a psychopath like his mother! She passed down those traits to him. The sister , Dione, does have some type of personality disorder, because she carried a stuffed animal, like she was 5. Therefore, something happened that stunted her growth, perhaps her mother leaving?
    Ian didn’t deserve any of that. Carl was evil and ruthless when he took his life. Everyone in that house was a victim of Cheryl/Neve. And everyone paid for her sins, which wasn’t fair. Carl and Dione spiraled after their mom tried to pay them to leave.
    Moral of the story: your actions have consequences and affect everyone around you. She may run, but her kids will catch up to her.
    I think it was a very good movie

  • @devinegravity57
    @devinegravity57 ปีที่แล้ว +44

    I think the hardest part of what really broke the childrens' hearts is that the mom wanted to get rid of them by telling them to go back to where they came from with two separate checks.
    As much as how the children wanted the luxury lives they have missed out, it's more of the nurturing and loving mother they were hoping to find. But it turned up more disappointing and therefore the revenge took place.
    I think the father died innocently. But also a trauma projection of the father figure that the children never had.
    Ending just pulled all the children together, I believe.
    A shocking realization that it's not the children at fault, it's the life that the mother has created and abandoned as soon as it longer fits the way she has planned it.
    Actually all the characters in this movie are victims of hers.
    Of how she wants to live her life and how she's seen by others is far more important than the people in it.

    • @larajayne4934
      @larajayne4934 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I 💯 agree with you. You can see the reaction of the two children when she gives them the separate checks 😞 the daughter even asks if they are moving in with them and you can see that she just wants her Mum, wants a real family and wants to be loved 😔 I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. I understand that they might remind her of traumatic events she went through but it's like she is ashamed of them 😥 she thought that money would solve it instead of actually taking the time to properly get to know them better! I am only half way through so I'm not sure what happens but it really broke my heart 😭😭

It is not clever to say “And the mother leaves, they are strays, the end”. That is so absurdly dumb and actually leaves no real message, no real conclusions, no real ending to the story. It just opens up so many dumb questions. Endings like this only work when the audience have some semblance of satisfaction through the story to where the ending makes us re-think everything. Says a lot about her character.
    So, in the end, was she justifying it by thinking if she took herself out of it the kids would be ok, just as she took herself out of the old situation and the dad didn’t hurt the children (in her eyes)? But really, it’s selfish as hell.

    Watch the last frame of the movie where she looks into the mirror. You see this beautiful entry way yet she has the same demeanor from her youth that if only I had these things I’d be happy. The same shot from the first scene yet two different lifestyles.
    To top it off she uses an even worse excuse for leaving the first time. She made the same decisions with her husband having two kids with perfect home and career yet she just could not attain the happiness that was portrayed on the tv when she spoke with her sister before leaving. Just proves having a family, career with a beautiful house could not fill the void in her life. That’s my thoughts at least.

    I feel like this movie is the opposite of what Jordan Peele does. Jordan Peele empathizes with Black people and shows the ways in which the world can be a scary place for Black people.
    The Strays asserts that Black people and Blackness is horrible and it is worth it to hide your Black roots if you can because Blackness is bad and wrong and will keep you from living a good life. The Strays is a very antiblack film. Making the Black children, who should be the victims, into the villains was a cruel choice.

    • @lf1496
      @lf1496 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually I felt it shows how repulsive self hatred is. The wigs were creepy. Watching the ritual of her hiding her hair highlights the insanity of that choice. She was clearly crazy. Yet we in our society normalise black women wearing hair that looks nothingike their own. The fake accent like that annoying Valley Girl Olivia Pope accent black girls are doing isn't normal. It's grotesque mask wearing like those dumb wigs. . The children were victims of a heartless self hating mother who had no redeeming qualities. Clearly you and I saw a different movie. The 🖐🏻life she sold her soul for was empty and flavorless. Her mixed children craved blackness. This is an explicit anti 🖐🏻 supremacist piece. I can't imagine how you drew your conclusions.

    It was uncomfortable for me as a white person to watch black self-hatred played out on the screen with no redeeming ending. This doesn't mean that the ending doesn't work within the context of the film. In fact, the whole film doesn't work because of the break in perspective (see Burke's explanation). MASTER was a much better, well rounded film that balanced black self-hatred with black self-love as well as obvious racism and white stupidity in trying to be supposedly open to others. The Strays left me wondering 'So?' SPOILER ALERT .............................................................................................................................................
    Was the writer/ director wanting to show that women in general (black, white etc) can walk out on families as some males (white, black etc) are known to do? In that case, race isn't the issue, it's sexism against men. This might be a better way to talk about the film.

    • @bleachedout805

      As a mixed race woman I'm tired of having my racial classification reduced to a pathological state of "self hate".
      Every movie/show on Netflix featurring mixed race characters from Passing, To Georgia and Ginny (or what ever order the is) to this hot mess take the very racist tragic mulelatto trope to define an expirence neither white or black people get but seem to think they can speak on.
      Being of mixed ancestry means we embrace both of our parents equally. The racism and conflict comes from outside more so than within. So if the movie doesn't address how white people will try to make mixed race people identify as Black to keep them other or how black people will demean mixed race people for as "rape tone" than it's not a movie I care to watch.
      Just don't take this film ad offering insight on the mixed race expirence.

It would have made more sense if there was evidence that the father of the older children was controlling and violent and that he had raised the children. The mothers actions seem narcissistic but she is clearly terrified and has experienced trauma in the past. The second husbands treatment doesnt make any sense at all. Why was he targeted? The first daughter was amazing, her motivation was clear and her acting ability was chilling and very real. I thought the final scene was perfect.

    This movie was a bad movie and solidly 3-4 IMDb out of 10 is the correct score. The whole movie was a mess and just everywhere but what made it bad was it’s connotations of racial preferences/ tying race to social standing and simply continuing the narrative of the poor black kids. Unwanted, unloved, violent and psychotic vs the partially black kids all innocent, nice, enriched and accepted by society and deserving of 2 loving parents. This whole show played on the idea of mixed race people trying find they’re identity and choosing what is most beneficial for them and rejecting the other when it isn’t. This movie unfortunately portrays as the bad guys “the dark skinned black people” while the mixed children and white husband as the good people. But her kids ethnicity wasn’t shown to be the focal point of this movie but rather the struggles that this women has with her own identity and ethnicity. So why make the dark skinned black kids violent, why describe their father as “a bad guy and he treated them bad”. This would have had a much better and interesting conversion if both children were same ethnicity which would have brought the full focus point of who the real issue was, which is suppose to be the Mother. So this movie though gives Jordan Peele black horror vibes, it far falls short on it and instead perpetuates the same stereotypes and continues to just feed the propaganda machine of black kids and ethnicity, even of mixed race people. This was a very unthought out movie in terms of racial messaging.

    The brother did not kill the father, he just didn't help him with the weight. More like manslaughter on his part. When the husband said he wanted a divorce, I knew he was a goner.

      If you have Black sons, they definitely needed to watch this movie, since most Black males (the common Black males and Black male celebrities) are the main perpetrators of colorism against their own darker skinned women. The world knows how Black males worship lighter skinned. In fact, this movie would have been more truthful if the story was about a Black male who left his Black family to marry and have children with a White woman or for any woman who was not Black, being that this happens often with Black males. TBT

      @@rhondae8222 Thanks Rhonda, but I think people should be free to marry whoever they want. If a black man wouldn't have married a white woman I wouldn't be alive, but good luck with that
