Late registration is just the college dropout 2. Better performances betters productions better skits better basically everything. This will always be his best album and quite possibly the best album of all time
This is why I love music and Kanye’s discography specifically. There’s never been an artist where almost every body of work produced can be considered a favorite to a different person (except maybe his most recent works). I’ve heard people say graduation is revolutionary, MBDTF is the best album ever made, and tons of people love Drop out and late registration. Then there’s 808’s which has inspired an entire generation and yeezus is also seeming more inspirational by the day. TLOP is also a favorite to a lot of younger Kanye fans.
that's the genius of kanye that i just love - his involvement on producing his own tracks and sampling in the way he did really set a trend for hip hop in the years after. songs you could never consider being sampled he seems to flip so well into crafting a blend of so many different sounds. truly a one of a kind artist
I'm not surprised that Craig has become such a big fan of both Kanye & Frank Ocean after hearing him mention/reference the likes of Stevie Wonder, Gil Scott-Heron, Jeff Buckley, Steely Dan, Portishead etc during your reactions because that shows he clearly has a deep love and knowledge of music and those two are up there with the very best artists to ever exist.
To be a true hip hop head you tend to have to be open to all sorts of music cause it samples from all kinds of music. The amount of random songs I would have never known that I like because I found it samples from hip hop songs is ridiculous
1:10 - Wake up Mr West 01:37 - Heard Em Say 05:30 - Touch The Sky 09:10 - Gold Digger 13:12 - Drive Slow 17:22 - My Way Home 20:26 - Crack Music 24:31 - Roses 28:57 - Bring Me Down 32:56 - Addiction 38:22 - Diamonds From Sierra Leone (Remix) 42:44 - We Major 47:45 - Hey Mama 50:53 - Celebration 54:20 - Gone 58:16 - Diamonds From Sierra Leone (Bonus) 1:00:51 - We Can Make It Better 01:04:06 - Late
don't know if someone already said this but the genius that co-produced this album is none other than Jon Brion, who you're actually already familiar with since he did the finishing touches on Circles by Mac Miller after he passed, what a brilliant producer
As you move from Late Registration to Graduation, please bear this in mind: Kanye West was in the ascendancy in the rap game, a genre still dominated by the “gangster persona” In the run up to his third album ‘Graduation’, it was slated to have the same release date as 50 Cent’s third album ‘Curtis’ (50 Cent being the biggest gangster rapper of that era) 50 Cent declared that if Kanye West’s Graduation outsold him in the first week, he would retire. Well both albums were released, and Graduation comfortably outsold Curtis. In hip hop this is considered a major shifting moment, from the ‘gangster rap’ era (50 Cent, Ja Rule, DMX etc) to more ‘regular’ guys dominating the genre going forward (Kanye West, Drake, J Cole, Kendrick Lamar etc)
Your dad got it lol Jamie Foxx actually played in Ray Charles biopic and played him perfectly! Award winning performance and the song he covers in the song is I got a woman by Ray Charles. Keep it up guys!
The reaction I've been waiting for. The good part about Kanye albums is that all of them are so different yet amazing in their own way. Gonna watch the reaction now, hope you enjoyed it. Side note: MBDTF was released in 2010.
Absolutely buzzing to see this lads. Can’t wait to watch this.. I appreciate you checking out the musical genius that is Ye! Forget everyone else’s opinions and let the music do the talking!!
Don’t worry about the ranking list you saw, it’s known in the Ye community that everyone’s lists are different and any album can be the best. I personally have Late Registration as my favourite
35:36 couldnt agree more. Back when i was in highschool and started to actually get into music aside from just radio hits i was blown away by albums like this that had music that i just didnt even know couldve existed. Love ur pops picking up on the samples to and knowing some of the backstories and such. Yall got something good going on here keep it up !
You mentioned in the video how you’ve been critiqued for liking almost everything you’ve listened to in your videos. In my opinion I think that’s great. At times we get stuck in finding the flaws of a song/album instead of enjoying the art of creation. Keep up the good work!
This was the album where it was confirmed coming off of Collegd Dropout.. Kanye did the impossible, dropped an album that was either more or equally impressive
Gone will grow on you. The last Kanye verse is incredible. Also, the 3rd verse from Consequence is pretty cool because if read the lyrics, he uses the word gone in basically ever bar. It’s a cool song about Kanye’s come up as an artist and becoming a bit disillusioned with the industry as he got some clout. I guarantee you the first half will start to grow on you a bit though
Another great video! Hope you guys are excited for JID; he won't let you down. Just a little bit of info: he's part of J Cole's record label and also was good friends with Mac Miller. He is actually older than most people think, and started rapping seriously after getting kicked out of college for his involvement in a robbery. Lastly i would recommend using genius for all of your videos, they tell you who is performing each part of the song, for example in the Lets Start Here video you wouldve seen all the female vocalists etc. Much love!
Jamie Foxx's part on Gold Digger was actually a cover of Ray Charles' song I Got Woman. And if you remember, during this time Jamie just came off of doing the Ray Charles biopic "Ray" 🤝🏿
I know you guys liked Tame Impala's "Currents", so if you would like to check another of his albums i would definitely listen to "The Slow Rush". I can't recommend it enough.🤩
Your dad is spot on! It's not a sample but Jamie Foxx is singing (basically covering) some of Ray Charles lyrics and melodies from I Got A Woman. Unfun fact, the original is fairly misogynistic and Kanye made it a little less misogynistic lol.
Great reaction! I noticed that you guys haven't listened to Tyler the creator, i think it's time to fix that with "Wolf". One of his best albums, great production and lyrics, can't wait to see!
Was close to spitting it out …. Craig (Dad) makes them too strong. It was like pure cordial !!! I had to edit that part out !!!! Went and topped up with water 🤣
This is how I would rank Kanye's albums: 1. Yeezus 2. MBDTF 3. 808s 4. The College Dropout 5. TLOP 6. Graduation 7. Late Registration 8. Donda 9. Ye 10. Jesus is King Collab albums are all fire too. Watch The Throne, Kids See Ghosts, Vultures.
Please dont skip the Cruel Summer and Watch The Throne Albums when you get to it. Cruel Summer isn't the greatest but still good imo and part of the journey
Enjoyed the reaction just felt like your dad talks over the lyrics a bit too much at times during the verses and things are being missed when that happens.
@TwistTheScript Late reply but feel free to talk as much as you want. I think we just want you to not miss any lyrics! Don't be afraid to pause and rewind
Your dad is great at picking up the samples! One of the best parts of Kanye records and production
Yeah he does seem to have an ear for them. He is on a bit of a roll ATM 👍
Can’t wait to watch this, Kanye’s best work in my opinion
what you just said was unbelievably valid 🗣️
His best album !!

Really realising how good he is the more we listen to him. Can’t wait for his next one. Graduation 👨🎓
13:48 Nice catch there, Craig! Kanye has mentioned that he’s a big fan of Portishead and that a lot of the album’s sound was inspired by them
No way !!!! He is on a right roll at the minute is Craig 😂🤣 Your going to give him a big head !!!

Yesss love when you guys do Kanye projects. They’re all so good
