Yes, he rapped with his mouth wired, hence the title "Through The Wire". The sample says "Through the fire", but his production makes it sound like "through the wire" to fit the context of the song. There are other versions of the song, one that was originally released that said "In the same hospital where Tupac died", but turned out that was wrong and it was Biggie Smalls who died in the same hospital Kanye was treated in, so he switched the lyrics. You'll see more about the song in the documentary, there's a lot of history behind it, but the biggest thing to know is that once he got in the car accident, meaning its one of the older songs on the album. But the accident is when he realized he should go all in to rap because life is too short to limit yourself. In his case, the industry wanted him to stay as a producer, but the accident was a sign to chase his dreams.
he said through the wire because a microphone is called a wire, and because his jaw was wired shut. He also says spitting through the wire because he's spitting since he has his jaw wired shut, and because spitting is another word for rapping so it's a quadruple entendre
I think a lot of people don’t realize how revolutionary this album was, it absolutely changed hip-hop as a whole and made Kanye undoubtedly one of the biggest artistic pioneers of the twenty-first century. Also the music is so charming and soulful, you can just sense the passion and love throughout the entire album. Edit: Commenting again to clear some stuff, the intro skits feature DeRay Davis doing a Bernie Mac impression, and your father is right in his assumption that he’s a figure of authority, I believe he’s supposed to be a teacher at the college Kanye’s at in the narrative. Great reaction guys, you’re definitely gonna be big in the future! ❤️🤗
This is a refreshing review, no preconceived perception or listening to what anyone else says, just listening to the music(and the doc, I think you guys would enjoy his interviews as well), and making your own judgments. In my opinion there isn’t a bad albums in his discography.
Just a total honest reaction. It’s all about being open minded. I think the more we do these reactions the open we get. As you can see we are really starting to understand Kanye and his work.
You guys have a channel that will strike gold with going through Kanye’s discography. The main reason people gravitate to these type of channels is it allows us to go back in memory to hearing Kanye’s albums for the first time and how it felt. His discography is the greatest in hip hop. Have fun with it. I am looking forward to your Yeezus review. I would also love to see you eventually get to Watch the Throne(Collaboration album with Jay-Z)
Loving the Kanye journey. Can’t wait for Late registration. Being real though. We ain’t waiting for it to strike. We just loving doing what we are doing. Keeping ourself grounded and remembering why we started this.
Album changed Hip Hop. And then he subsequently went on to change it with every new album he dropped. Excited for you guys to go through the journey in order. There is a lot of context in his life that informs each album. Big part of the Kanye mythos and why he is still at the front of the cultural zeitgeist today.
If I may interject - and I know, I haven’t waited for permission but I’m interjecting anyway - DeRay Davis is a legendary yet also hugely underrated comedian. He has a special on Netflix called “How to Act Black” and it is absolutely fantastic - I would genuinely put it on par with some of Dave Chappelle’s work, especially in terms of how he explores so-called “Black American culture” in a way that is hilariously entertaining but also legitimately bridges cultural gaps. So, y’know, if you guys ever get the urge to venture into comedy on the channel (or even in your spare time, not that you needed my permission), well, there you are.
Love this channel, you two are great and spot on with everything you said, and you're in for a fucking ride, kanye in my opinion is the greatest artist of all time for multiple reasons. Can't wait for this journey.

Loving the hip hop reactions lads, can I make a suggestion to add to your list : Wu-tang clan, Enter the wu tang (36 chambers) Think you’ll like Rza’s production style 👍🏼
I’m typing this as the song begins, so my apologies if you spotted this on your own, but Spaceship is in 3/4 time, making it one of very few hip-hop tracks that is not in 4/4 - mainly because rapping to other time signatures is incredibly difficult. In fact, as you may be able to tell if you listen carefully, it seems apparent that both Consequence and GLC - the emcees on 2nd and 3rd verses - struggled with their syllable placement (and that’s not to disparage or discredit their technical rapping skills whatsoever); certainly their vocals were cleaned up for the end product, but there are still some spots mid-bar where you can hear their cadence go slightly off-beat in a way that doesn’t suggest intentional syncopation. Honestly, I think that just makes it all the more impressive Kanye was able to make his verse flow so seamlessly.
Alright fellas, great channel building up. I know it's not easy to catch everything on a first list and I understand that you guys are more concerned with the musical elements of music which I enjoy but a big part of Rap or what it once was about, is telling your story to the world. Kanye goes on to do less of that as his career goes on however I think it would add some more to your videos get your perspective on what's being said and the themes of the albums as 2 fellas from the other side of the world. But of course only do so if you feel comfortable doing so. Just a suggestion.
No they are not lmao when did you start listening to kanye?late registration has a more majestic orchestral sound, college dropout has a more chipmunk soul sound anyways these are the 2 best albums of kanye, there are some other great ones but these the goat
@@JjkJjk-or9kc confrontational way to approach your comment but allow me to clarify. I'm not saying they are the same, I'm saying they are similar - as in Late Registration is a very natural evolution of the sound from the college dropout. I'm then saying, that the change is more jarring in future albums. LR to Grad. Grad to 808's. 808's to MBDTF. MBDTF to Yeezus. Yeezus to TLOP. Look at all the other albums and compare how drastic the evolution in sound is. Also I disagree they are his best albums. Though I enjoy them a lot as well,.
Slow jamz is incredible for so many reasons. Jamie Foxx killed the chorus, this was literally a modern day 70s soul song you can slow dance to it, you can sex to it all that. And even how the song flows. It has a slow flow at first then twists ends the song super fast. Just like sex. You start off gettin it all hot then when it’s time you go hard in the paint! 😈💖
Kanye will never be the greatest wordsmith or the deepest poet but he sometimes hits you with lines that make you pause and go "Damn that was pretty good." For me it was on Two Words when he says "And i basically know now weve been racially profiled, cuffed up and hosed down, pimped up and hoed down." As a kid that grew up with the images of American police in the south literally arresting children and turning firehoses on full blast at black people, i can imagine how much that affected him.
He went head to head with 50cent on his graduation release and smoked him in album sales imo because hes not just rapping about shooting up some op block

Fun fact, kanye recorded through the wire with his jaw wired shut from the car crash.
That's why it's called "Through the Wire". He's rapping through the literal wire
Yes that added depth to the song knowing Kanye was literally rapping "through the wire".
He wasn’t on the album version though. You can find the version where he really rapped it with the wire online.
