Actually I’m not already graduated but I’m in my first year of big data master’s degree, as we all know that handling data is so intersecting nowadays but it takes a lot of efforts to master it ! So i say yes to make adventures in Data’s world ! Who’s like me ?
i'm a fresh grad from economics and have been interested in taking on the data analyst role (without having that much experience as of now), so watching this video came at a right time and place. really insightful video and can't wait to learn more along the way
Cant agree more, for technical part, i had exactly the same path when i started my data career 5ys ago, glad that i had built the good path to go and become the current “me”
I am new to the idea of becoming a Data Analyst. My dear friend just recently landed a entry-level position with Accenture, after being a (paid) intern for a year. He was making 48K with no prior experience and no degree; only having a certificate from the General Assembly bootcamp. Now, in his current position, of just one year, he is making more than 75K in Chicago! He loves his job and works remotely, 90% of the time. He learned CSS, HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, React, MongoDB, Express, Ruby, Ruby on Rails and Fullstack applications. He believes I have the aptitude for this field. However, I know he's tech savvy and me, not so much...he's 41 and I am 52. We both have had major struggles in life trying to find out what we want to do in our careers. We both have had jobs in car sales/finance, dance and health industries and various odd jobs. I recently became a Flight Attendant, love the free flying benefits but hate having to be away from home so much...I'm so torn. I don't know if my brain is capable of retaining all the vast, complex information and/or if I'm talented enough for this ever changing, competitive industry.
You never know until you give it a try 😄 I'm not saying it'll be easy but if you're willing to put in the time and effort, I don't see why wouldn't be able to succeed. If it was easy, everyone would do it! I recently made a video on How I'd Learn Python for Data Analysis, where I shared my failures and struggles of learning it. I actually failed the first time I attempted it.
There are many people doing what you want to do that are smarter than you, but there are also a lot of people doing it that might not be as smart. The real difference is how much they believed in themselves. Go for it, if you think it’s something you will enjoy then you’ll definitely be successful.
I am 33 and also cant decide to commit to Data analytic. And still not sure what to pursue. So hearing people who are around my age or over my age makes me feel like I am not alone.
You have to use your brain to make it more capable. It is the regrets hurt the most; while failures are opportunities of learning. Go ahead, I am sure you’ll succeed.
Hi Allen, that's great! The Google Data Analytics Certification is probably one of the best out there. Good luck on your journey and many thanks for watching : )

Hi Mo- thanks for this content. Can you talk more about the journey and how long it took you to land your first data analyst job? I think that information is crucial as well to let people understand the realistic expectations and the process of landing a job. I know they vary from case to case, but the process is pretty difficult and challenging. Also- I agree to focus on one programming language, however, I am realizing that data analysts focus on excel and sql more in their day to day jobs with the exception of Python and BI tool here and there for deeper project analysis ( depending on the company and it’s dataset velocity )
Hello, great question! It took me just under 4 years to get my first proper data analyst job. I have however been in roles that involved working with data ever since I began my career in the Financial Services Industry. My job title now if officially Data & Analytics Analyst, but I've been handling lots of financial data long before I got my current role. Even when you're a DA, knowing the business context matterrs. But like you said, it can be very different for everyone. Say for example within Finance, we have model developers (people who develop, test and implement financial models that drive lending / strategic / business decisisons) - they're not data analysts by their title, but they'd certainly have the skills to do the job as they need to understand the maths, know the Banking industry and be able to code. Which tools / languages you use on a daily basis will be completely dependent on what role you're doing and for whom. One thing for sure, Excel will never go away wherever you are. No matter how good you're coding skills are, people will always ask you this question: 'Can I get this in Excel?'. Thanks a lot for watching : )
Great Video.. ❤️. I am someone with a master's degree in structural engineering but planning on transitioning to data science field. For the last 6 months I have been studying Microsoft SQL server, excel, Power BI and EDA using Numpy,Pandas libraries in Python. So, my query is how many portfolio projects I need to get a job as Data Analyst. Thanks in advance.
Hi Abhijeet, anywhere between 5-10 projects is ideal. Make sure your projects showcase a variety of skills (i.e. all the great things that you've been learning over the past 6 months). You could say for example find an interesting dataset (or multiple datasets) on Kaggle, clean and manipulate the data as you see fit using numpy and pandas (and any other relevant libraries), and create visualisations using matplotlib / seaborn or build dynamic, user-friendly dashboards in Tableau / Power BI. And many many thanks for watching the video!
Pretty good video! I've been trying to change career into data analytics for a few months now, and I am in the process of sending CVs to companies. I have recently followed a master so I could eventually update myself with the basics of Python for Data Science, MySQL and Tableau. As I am probably guilty of sticking to much with Python for data analysis and visualization (for some reason I find it more fun), I just wanted to know how to apply SQL on a project. As I understand, SQL should be ideal for organizing data and for relating data, but how do you integrate SQL to Python for instance? I'd like to get some help onto that, as I so far have used quite few Kaggle datasets and did everything strictly through Python, kinda setting Excel and SQL aside (which you both suggest being the 'house foundation' for a data analyst). Thank you very much!
Hi 69nukee, it's great to hear that you're already very proficient coding in Python. You can integrate postgresql, mysql or sqlite into Python very easily. Say for postgresql, you can install the psycopg2 library to connect to your sql database and query whatever you wish. I have a data modelling project in Python using SQL here github.com/mochen862/data-engineering-projects/tree/main/data-modelling-with-postgres. Hope this helps, and thanks a lot for watching!
Hi Chaz_life, you're correct. You can integrate postgresql, mysql or sqlite very easily, using libraries such as psycopg2 for example. Thanks a lot for watching!

Great information, I'm pursuing my bachelor's degree in supply chain, transportation, and Logistics Management. Which master's degree would you suggest to get into data analyst. Industrial and systems engineering vs supply chain analytical. Thanks for your input in advance. 👍
Hi Kourtney, I don't know too much about either master's you suggested, but based on some quick research I did - it seems like the suppy chain analytics is the one more focused on data. You definitely can't go wrong whichever you choose - having a master's degree for sure can only add to your skills.
I've finally made up my mind to start my journey from the scratch. For the sole purpose of bettering my life and learning data analytics, I've bought new laptop since the old one was very faulty and slow and I'm planning to genuinely start from zero. Yes, motivation goes away sometimes especially if you're alone or doing this at home so it will be really great if someone also wants to join me on this journey....if there's someone just starting out and also want someone to be constantly reminded of the progress...i think by sharing progress and telling each other what it needs to be done, we will progress faster than average. So let me know when anyone is interested.... It would be faster to learn together, maybe in a group and sharing useful information
Hi Mo, I enjoyed the video and the way you explained everything. I am 25 years old and I live in a country where coding or data analyst is not common at all so I feel lost about how to start this path. I currently work from home (call center) and I want to pursue a career in something related to coding that can help me improve my income, currently, I have been reading and practicing HTML. I have watched videos about data analyst, coding, etc but I just don't know where to start as with more information I find I feel like I should be learning something different. I don't have any experience at all, any input will be highly appreciated. Thank you!
Hi Ashley, first of all thank you so much for watching : ) I'd say start by identifying what kind of coding you want to learn. If you want to become a software engineer, the coding skills needed will be very different from that of a data analyst. But, if you'd like to become a data analyst, I'd highly suggest starting with working with data in Excel, then moving onto SQL and BI tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau) and then some coding language (I prefer Python). I hope this helps and please feel free to ask more questions here : )

I'm glad to have you here on the channel Aju 😄
Hi Mo! Just discovered your channel, I work in the energy industry focusing on manufacturing support and there is definitely a need for data science skills in my immediate job role. I am primarily looking for a career transition that will allow me to explore multiple industries over time, since I feel like I am slowing being pigeon-holed into my current job, and data science seems to be the best transferrable skill set in the market. I'm excited to learn! Thank you so much for this video.
Hi Veronica 👋 Great to have you here on the channel, thanks so much for watching! The skills of a data scientist are indeed very valuable and transferable 😁
Absolutely amazing, clear and inspiring . My mind just completely focused listening to this expert

I'm amazed why this video has less views and likes.... It's the most helpful video i was looking for and I'm totally new to the IT industry section.. And that's a relief after watching this video
Hi Jatin, many many thanks for your kind words and thank you so much for watching : )
Hi Brother,
I was looking for the person who has real time experiences in data analysis field to guide me at the perfect time, I got to see your video by suggestion. From 0 to constant learning you have explained crystal clear the way to build ourselves.
Thanks for being valuable one more solider added to you.
Thanks so much for your kind words! Great to have you here on the channel 😃
Actually I’m not already graduated but I’m in my first year of big data master’s degree, as we all know that handling data is so intersecting nowadays but it takes a lot of efforts to master it ! So i say yes to make adventures in Data’s world ! Who’s like me ?
Hey Chaz_life, love the enthusiasm : )
i'm a fresh grad from economics and have been interested in taking on the data analyst role (without having that much experience as of now), so watching this video came at a right time and place. really insightful video and can't wait to learn more along the way
Great to have you here on the channel, thanks a lot for watching 😁
Cant agree more, for technical part, i had exactly the same path when i started my data career 5ys ago, glad that i had built the good path to go and become the current “me”
Hi Raizel , that’s great to hear! Thanks a lot for watching : )
Very comprehensive video! Congrats Mo
I’m glad you liked it, thanks a lot for watching!
Thank you for making a video that is specific! So many wafflers out there!
I'm glad you liked it 😁 Thanks a lot for watching!

Articulated brilliantly :)
You will go pretty far
Post more 😀
Hi Jay, thanks a lot for watching! I will certainly try my best : )
Thank you brother for these tips. I have a bachelor's in industrial engineering, however, I had chosen a different path and work currently as an account manager at a multinational IT company. I am considering switching back to a more technical job and data science made sense the most.
I'm glad you liked the video! Good luck with switching back to something more technical, I wish you all the best 😃
Hey Mo! I'm really glad I just found this channel. I've been bouncing around a bit for a few months in between different possible career paths, from front-end to GIS (majored in Geography at University) and now finally I've settled on Data Analysis and I feel really confident and excited about it. I'm really enjoying studying python and SQL, which I hope will make up the backbone of my skills. I'm learning with Codecademy Pro and a bunch of other random online resources and tutorials. Really looking forward to watching your videos in the future. Best of luck to everyone else here trying to land a job in the space with an unrelated degree!
Hi Graham 👋 It's great to have you here on the channel! I wish you all the best with your data analytics journey 😁

@Data With Mo I will be watching everything as fast as I can, because I'm trying to learn and get back to the work force after 12 years of disability. I have an undergraduate in Finance and Master's in Accounting, but I'm way behind on technology. Hoping to start a Data Analytics Bootcamp very soon.
@@TheLionQueen I truly wish you all the best! I cannot even start to imagine how hard it must be to get started after all this time. Just please make sure that you try and enjoy the journey as well and give yourself a little pat on the back after each small or big achievement 😁
Can you please be more specific about statistics and math needed for data analytics? Or direct us to a good course that illuminates extra studying that’s not required for data analytics
Hi E F, th-cam.com/video/xxpc-HPKN28/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=freeCodeCamp.org. Check this one out!
@@mo-chen thank you so much , I promise you that your videos were the best of what I have seen so far. One mare question please do you think Google data analytics and IBM is a good starting point for a job in data analytics? Also can you direct me to a good course for GitHub ? Thanks again

Thank you so much for simplifying what it takes to be a data analyst. I have no advance math background but your video is so motivating .. iam so passionate about data analysis as i have used advanced excel skills and Database SqL
It’s great to have you here on the channel! Thanks so much for watching 😃
Thanks a lot for watching : )
almost the same background! Really helpful
I’m glad you liked it, thanks a lot for watching!
@@mo-chen thank you very much for your response.Much appreciated 👍
Thank you so much... everything I needed at the moment
Fantastic, I'm glad you liked it 😁
You're the most attractive Data Analyst I ever seen. okay bye.
Thanks a lot for watching JN 😁
@@mo-chen thanks a lot Mo, much appreciated! I will duly check it 💪
Thank you for your video. It was helpful. Also, I need a double monitor like the setup you have. I like how it is stacked from on top to bottom. Your setup will give me more room on my office desk. Currently, my double monitor is side by side. :) First time. Subbie here.
Thanks so much for watching and for the sub 😁 I recently changed from side by side to vertical and it works better for me for sure!
@@mo-chen yes, I'm digging the vertical way for sure! It looks way cooler than the side by side. Thank you for responding. 😁
Thank you, Sir. Such a sophisticated and concise video.
Many thanks for your kind words and for watching 😃

I wish you all the best 😃 Really hope you get to connect and learn together with someone here!
This was an amazing breakdown. Thank you!
Thanks a lot for watching Rich 😄
I hope this helps and please feel free to ask more questions here : )
Alex the analyst on TH-cam has a free coding camp all on TH-cam. That be a good starting point
