I built a 99 4Runner 3.4 5speed and used the TRD supercharger with everything URD sells to make it better. ECU, all 6 injectors, walboro fuel pump, smaller pulley, and tuned it on dyno then street. It made 367hp and 351tq. It was one badass 4Runner.
I did the same thing except I had an "S-Runner" before the S-Runner was a thing. I had a 97, lowered with the 5 speed. My problem was my rear wheels could not get traction, even with the URD traction bars. Occasionally it would hook up and I'd leave a Lightning in my wake. I miss that truck.
I liked this video as a kid, but I remember thinking that it was a lot of video for just a few seconds of a tiny burnout. Still holds true today, lol. Hopefully there is a follow-up video somewhere out there
Hi, I got a 2001 Toyota Tacoma V6 I would love to get a turbo kit like the one you put on your truck, do you have a part number for the bolt on kit from STS?
Forgot about this project. It would be a blast to do this to my 3rd gen 4Runner, but the updated supercharger from Magnuson to the TVS based blower makes so much more sense, from a bolt-on perspective.
@@BuckingHorse-Bull I’m all for sleeper but uh idk about all of this. That just seems like more initial work and less gains for for that said extra work lol

Thing needs an air to water intercooler installed in that inlet pipe. And a proper automatic transmission and high stall converter to take advantage of the turbo.
@@TheSaw410The Ford 3.8 made 210hp and had an air to water intercooler. I have an air to water in my 382hp B58. It’s not just something for high power.
It's actually been measured and only takes one tenth of a second longer than a front mount system, you might notice that IF you were racing or something
I've had multiple 1k rwhp custom remote mounted cars as well as front mount. Haven't experienced or noticed a diff in lag. That's just a dumb ass comment every guy that doesn't know wtf thier talking about. Go drive a rear mount turbo car before commenting. You ll change your mind
I know some of it is decently protected, but anyone who's been off-roading knows this install is probably the worst idea ever for a truck that will be driving rocks
Yeah Shoulda went with the trd supercharger. Doesn’t effect clearance or have a risk of getting destroyed on rocks. Also basically bolt on and plug n play

That is badass. Quite expensive. Would love to do that to my 98 someday.

classic show right here
If you told me this show was filmed in 1998, I'd believe you.

Wish I had my 2nd Gen tacoma! This looks pretty simple to go through.
You mean first gen
You guys will always be in my heart when I hit the road in the country of Mississippi 😢...( You Guys FREAK N ROCK ) ( Linkin Park Hybrid Theory ) ...
That oil pump is a perfect way to ruin your engine when the oil line gets ripped off and you don't know till your engine starts a knocking
Looks like a whole lot of fun to me
What size turbo is in this kit? I have one and theres no markings on it anywhere.

I turboed my 3rd gen 4runner on my channel
Where. Can i order that turbo kit ?????
I have a 3rd gen trd off road. Can I do this mod for rear diff lock.
Air intake in the toolbox is crazy
its like they think a turbo is illegal
crazy dumb

Honest to his why would you put that minsteisity of a turbo on that thing? They make a bolt on supercharger.
Yes officer, it is stock😂😂😂
Hell yeah
15:51 guys it’s 2024 we shouldn’t even be seeing fmu’s anymore
Thanks
WHERE CAN I ORDER. THAT TURBO KIT ??

You can hear the frame rusting from here :)
All these kids complaining about boost lag, obviously didn’t see the episode with the C6 & twins from sts

Hey, you know, a welder is 100 bucks at harbor freight 🙂 I started that way 20 years ago and it’s been a lot of fun this whole time

I didn't know it was a 2500hp Lamborghini build. Wow! Air to water intercooler setup for a 2000 Tacoma making like 400hp at best 😂 get a clue!

a turbo under a 4x4? forget about driving over mud, water crossings, etc. sounds like a terrible idea imho
It’s a sealed system with the intake in the bed box. No more risk than if it was under the hood.
I'd be more concerned with some serious turbo lag with as far as the exhaust has to travel to feed that turbo.
Supercharged would have been a better idea
It's not really a 4x4. It's a Toyota not a Jeep 😂😂😂
@@thehouseman81that fucking Tacoma will go 400k miles, your Jeep couldn’t do that without 3 transmissions and an engine.
I'd love to see them do the remote turbo, in the toolbox. That would keep it up out of the elements.
Better of doing the supercharger than this turbo contraption.
I can only imagine the ghastly turbo lag…measured in minutes…

They have supercharger kits for these trucks, way better idea then the turbo kit you did, IMO.
For the same price yall spent you could just get a new hemi Ram
A hemi ram won't last 40k miles without issues and is giant. It's also a piece of shit. But you're not wrong

Great video, but I’m tired of watching tampon commercials.
I’m pretty positive a supercharger would’ve been easier and made more more power then this headache they went through.
