I for one welcome our new evil bearded overlord Jeremy Noell!! Think about it?! If he was as over powered and omnipotent when he had some scruffy beard think about what he could accomplish with a wizard beard?!?! I think world leaders are now conveying a secret emergency meeting on how to handle this emerging threat. Somebody call Bill Pullman because Justin, John, and Stephen need an Independence Day style speech to help them fight this threat!!
Shawn Austin From Gatherer for Golos: "Golos’s last ability doesn’t change when you can play the exiled cards. For example, if you exile a sorcery card, you can cast it only during your main phase when the stack is empty. If you exile a land card, you can play it only during your main phase and only if you have an available land play remaining."
@@shawnaustin1037 If it says you "may cast them this turn", timing restrictions apply. This can be remembered by the card not demanding a decision about the spells immediately. If a card lets you "play" the revealed cards (like Golos), that also includes lands, and will almost always mean timing restrictions on the cards remain (since playing lands is sorcery speed). If a card tells you "you may cast" some cards, you must put them on the stack as part of the resolution of the effect so instructing, which necessarily allows you to circumvent timing restrictions. For an interesting case study, compare Golos's activated ability to the effect of Aminatou's Augury. One lets you play lands because it says "until end of turn you may *play*", while the other lets you play a land because it says to put a land on the battlefield (and also "cast" some spells, which is only possible while in the middle of resolving a spell if there are no timing restrictions).
Want to add in my suggestion for determining tiebreakers. The person with the most season wins gets first place, and if there is still a tie then it is just a tied season. Thanks for listening.
Final scores for season 16 Justin: 23 John: 23 Stephen: 24 Jeremy: 24 John had 24 for starting at 22 and coming in 3rd. But he spent 40 seconds searching for a 6 drop. Jeremy gained no points for coming in last and not casting his commander. Stephen squandered a sole first place victory by going from 19 to 24 and missing his 6th point from not casting his commander a 4th time from the command zone. And John’s comment about Stephen winning the first few games cracked me up considering John won the first 4 games with combo deck wins.
I enjoyed watching Stephen murder everyone just to tie it up in the end when he had *every opportunity* to break the tie throughout his hour-long reign.
Well, this was my deck, but I've already started making adjustments to it because it has some issues (and has never been as good as it was in this game, even though Stephen played it pretty un-optimally). I guess PM me if you want suggestions
@@ruhrohraggy1313 Private messaging is going away on Wednesday, so I figured I'd just reply here. I just built basically the same list as played here with a few changes to the mana base for budget reasons. Here's my current list if you wanna make any suggestions! tappedout.net/mtg-decks/golos-tireless-pilgrim-tuned-edh/?cb=1568663870
Why do Stephen keep using Golos ability on other people's turns? He has literally 3 Instants in his whole deck, and 2 of them were already in his library. Is he just digging for Congregation at Dawn for some reason, or is there some benefit to exiling his own cards that I'm just not seeing??
They need someone in the studio who really knows the rules. Director Kyle has to keep track of so many other things he can't do that on his own. Commander Clash is often even more casual than Commander VS but they have MTGO do the rules for them. There has to be some solution because Jon surely would have been dead very early and it's not the first time a game is decided by rules mistakes.
Maddening Imps ruling ignores its own card text. "If able" implies creatures that are tapped, and creatures with summoning sickness wont be affected by the ability, because they are NOT able to attack, and yet it still destroys them and ignores its own card text? What a stupid card.
I agree that it is stupid, but the ruling and rules text *are* in agreement. When the second line of text says "each of those creatures", it is referring to the "Non-Wall creatures the active player control[led]" when the ability resolved. The fact that those creatures must attack this turn "if able" is not part of the text defining the set of creatures the ability affects, but is rather using a term of art ("must attack...if able") that is used to explain that the creatures cannot fail be declared as an attacker if such declaration would be legal within the rules. The counterplay to the imp killing your summoning sick creatures is just to cast creatures in the post-combat main phase. The imp killing mana dorks and creatures with tap abilities is the card working as intended. The text you are referring to is somewhat ambiguous in English, but is entirely unambiguous in Magic-ese.
Pretty sure Stephen is winning the season. Jeremy losses 1 point and got last so stays at 24, Stephen won +4 plus first blood +1 to 25. Justin goes to 23 and John to 24. Grats Stephen, go team Green!
All the misplay surrounding that imp is really stressing me out. That thing could not be removed soon enough for my liking. Edit: even pulling up the rulings didn't set things right!
Stephen should get 6 points because he definitely could have recast his general for a 4th time..... and if he did that then he'll tie Jeremy in points for the season...
Come on Stephen... you had roughly a million mana and you sacrificed a Command Beacon instead of casting your general for a 4th time. No more potential first place for you :( #TeamGreen
The Izzet deck that Stephen Green was talking about at around 6:20 is my friend Ben’s Jori En deck. I’m the mono-white Oloro player, lol.
What's your deck tech like?
Ya I would love to know the deck tech as well. I've been looking for some inspiration on Oloro decks and a mono-white sounds fun.
Love to see season finale with #TeamGreen globetrotting in my favorite archetype.
