Same for me. Wasn't too sure about the design when I first saw it, but the more pictures I saw from the movie and from the different toy lines doing the praetorian guards, the more they grew on me.

I love this guard and the one with the incredibly large blade staff the most. They remind me the most of the red queen's card soldiers from Alice in Wonderland(2010). I see this guard as the one to be immediately beside the supreme leader, but not the highest ranking one, which, I think, is the one with the two blades. The upcoming Amazon exclusive will actually allow us to add two guards to our current two, as it has both a large staff and a sword/spear weapon, with that duck-like protrusion for its helmet guard. I have yet to see any of these guards, but I hope I'll come across this one soon. When I first saw them, I thought they were like Zurg from Toy Story, and glided across the ground as if they had wheels instead of legs, but they're probably human/cyborg now. I'm actually hoping they fight Kylo Ren, as a reminder that he isn't to question the supreme leader, and to put him in his place, or possibly to kill them to complete his training.
What timing...just picked mine up at walmart about an hour ago. Gotta admit I almost hesitated on this guy cause I was so undetermined on the design from the trailers. Now that its out of the package its growing on me rapidly. I was totally surprised at the amount of articulation this figure actually has.
Never underestimate the power of marketing haha...ohh and unfortunately it seems as if you did indeed get stuck with two right shoulder pads. Damn Hasbro!
I'm waiting for my Guards of Evil 4 pack to get here to decide if I like the cloth robes on it more than this. If not, and probably for the sake of consistency, I plan on getting another one of these and putting the head of the 4 pack on it, then I'll have matching skirts and extra shoulder pads. I didn't realize collecting would require so much shuffling, haha.
This is completely unrelated to the review but,I remember you saying about how you would love bandai to do transformers model kits(this was a while ago) and I've done some research and found a takara model kit Optimus prime and bumble bee- which are awesome. I recommend them and hope you check them out Ps. I can't find a decent link- sorry
Hey Robo, I watched this earlier today 10/9/17, around lunchtime. I just got back from target, it’s now 11:50 pm. There’s was just 1 of these bad boys on the peg, I grabbed him quick! Anywho, I just looked at the shoulder plates, the one on his left shoulder says (L1), on his right shoulder (R1) so, if u got 2 r’s, not the end of the world, but strange nonetheless 🤔. My friend who loves the Disney Elite die-Cast series bought me one from the Dis Store. It’s nice, I appreciate he did that, but,I’m a black ser. man through & through! thanks as always. It’s not the standard package they changed the angle of the front window removed the top window and turned the logo from grey/silver to white Probably since issue 30/40 not sure #BOX COLLECTORS 4EVER
My shoulder pads are fine, but I have 2 left side elbow peices. If you boil and pop the forearm you can see each rubber elbow price is indexed to fit in it's respective arm. Still functions like it should but messes up the "flow" of the plates. Also if you boil and pop forearms, it gives you chance to break in the elbow articulation....mine was super tight.
Yeah, I think mine are tight too. That's why I kind of have to shimmy and shake it to get it to bend. I didn't even pay attention to the orientation of the cups though, hmmm.
Thanks Robo for going the extra mile and bending the crap out of your brand new figure so that us who go after can bend with greater confidence .From looking at images online your not the only one with the uneven shoulder pad but its still gonna drive you nuts . Just return it when you eventually get 2 more off the shelf . The grill on the mask needs some black in the grooves to make it look less plasticy.
I think these are great and futuristic look on the original royal guard. I have the Amazon version on order and really want snoke with his throne, with these guys standing next to him. The amazon version includes a longer heavy blade like pole arm.
Yeah, it seems they went experimental with the one in the Guards 4-pack, it's cloth. I may have to buy an extra one of these to make them consistent, plus I need an extra shoulder pad from one of them.
QC seems to be a problem with these guards. My regular release version had the correct shoulder pads, but on my 4 pack one (shingle-head) one of the rubber elbow covers was put on not in line with of the arm armor, and doesn’t let the elbow bend like it should.

That shoulder armor deal is pretty $@%&#!....can you call Hasbro and get a replacement?...for $20 I expect a fig to at least be built right...if it makes you feel any better...I looked at the helmet paint on my 2 rex figs just to check the centering...and while one looks perfect the other is so off that it looks like someone painted it drunk...I really would rather pay 25 a fig to have better paint apps and extra q.c. to ensure we get what we pay for...Hasbro can make a beautiful price point product in 6in black series...but without confidence of getting a good fig what does potential matter?...anyways great vid as usual
I think all the imports have warped my brain a bit. I look at the Black Series (and other $20 mass market lines) as kind of the keep 'em or toss 'em types. If I don't like it, meh, toss it in the drawer. If this had cost $60 or $70 I would have been a lot more pissed. As is, I have other versions coming and will end up with an extra of this one.
The Fwoosh I really like a lot of the imports that I've seen...problem for me is I can look at the brands and see an obvious difference in the style they're made and I would want to mix them on display...then I also think of the price points for each and black series wins out by far...especially considering sometimes they're better than the imports...often they are too close to even try and justify the price difference...and another big thing is the 6in black series collection as a whole is way above and beyond the other companies...so unless I win the lottery...I'm gonna stick with just black series...I started collecting last summer...and between back collecting and the new releases ive got like 200 figs now...and that's a drain on wallet as it is...I couldnt imagine expanding what I collect lol

I think they Rey may be, can't tell on the rest. If things hold to schedule we won't be seeing those until Fall next year, so plenty of time to figure out what they are doing. I hope. But yeah, I think that Rey is the fancy one we saw at SDCC but with a poncho.

It could be that they use their hearing exclusively to attack as well, similar to what Kanan did in Rebels when he just got permanently blinded and couldn't see with the force just yet. Or it could be those slits are so tiny and numerous you just can't see them, but they can see you.
You know what, if this ends up being a like battalion large troop or not special armor for each guard & only having like 6 guards I'd argue your shoulder error could make yours special like a suto officers pauldron... Why am I trying to make Robo feel better about a factory error?

My biggest gripe is that this version has a soft plastic skirt while the GameStop exclusive has soft goods. I wish they all had the same. Either or, doesn't matter, but having them have both versions will make it look off when they're all together.
Yeah, and looking at pictures I don't think I like the soft goods as much as I like this one. Ultimate plan, find another one of these, transfer the head from the 4 pack to it, salvage the shoulder pads from the 4 pack and make this one right. Extra $20 but it'll be worth it.
I've got all 3 of the 6'' Praetorian Guard figures. It turns out that you can bend their arms at close to 90 degree angles with some fidgeting around. Amazing amount of articulation given the design.

I've only messed with one Sideshow Clone, I think it was Wolffe, and he seemed to be kind of loosey goosey. That may have been a one-off though. I don't know, maybe it's my love of the 6 inch scale but I'd rather have a crap-ton on Black Series.

Possibly similar to a fencer's helmet, or they may just fold into the helmet somehow to allow them to peer through it, while keeping their identity hidden. Of course, Disney will probably just say that they have a HUD to electronically look through it for enhanced viewing. Or it could actually be used like Luke's helmet in Episode IV did with the blast-shield to force them to use the force to look through and into the world/space around them, and have even better combat skills from such. Chirrut may have just inspired these guys yet.
Can't wait to see these badasses stand around doing nothing until they are told to exit Snoke's throne room.

IDK how I feel about the design for these guys yet. The layered armor makes them look a bit too much like lobsters.
I can see that. All I can say is, give it a chance. The figure is surprising. Just make sure the shoulder pads are right before you buy it.

Nice review, as always, but I just don't like these new red guards. Don't get me wrong, I'll hold out until I see the film, but I'm not sold so far :/

Possibly similar to a fencer's helmet, or they may just fold into the helmet somehow to allow them to peer through it, while keeping their identity hidden. Of course, Disney will probably just say that they have a HUD to electronically look through it for enhanced viewing. Or it could actually be used like Luke's helmet in Episode IV did with the blast-shield to force them to use the force to look through and into the world/space around them, and have even better combat skills from such. Chirrut may have just inspired these guys yet.
