I LOVE the Hunger. It’s an incredible design in that it does something familiar yet so different. The threat of eating too much and not making it back is so thematic and gives weight to your decisions throughout and creates a constant tension. This game is a lot of fun and I’ve had a blast every time I’ve played.
We really enjoy this game. The fact that it has a set number of turns makes it feel different from similar games like Clank. It's a really fun tension.
This game murdered CLANK and El Dorado for me. Might as well toss both out tbh ;) This is the most original Deck builder I had played in a while. The deck becoming less efficient is very fun. YOU the player have the agency in what you hunt, what you chase, and how much risk you want to give yourself. Also you do realize there is an entire board side that scores if you get into the town area yes?.... Like why wouldn't you just play on the side that accommodates that? Seems like that complaint is addressed very easily. Who goes first is very simple and dynamic.
I think expectations matter a lot. When I first played the game I was really shocked with how much weaker I got. Subsequent plays helped me appreciate the game a little more. I still never play on the B side because getting punished to the point you get nothing is pretty unsatisfying
Excellent analysis! I played it a couple of times and walked away with much less happiness vibes than I get from Clank (or El Dorado). I do love engine building and I think you right that so much clogging drives down that excitement. (Also the theme of killing people didn’t elevate it for me.) I would play it anytime but never picked it up….thanks to your analysis I think I better know why!
We have played it once, couldn't get the timing and planning down, have to try again, we have the expansion on the way so will see how that changes things

Huh. I loved the flip the script idea of making the best bad choice in what gets added to the deck for point scoring.

Hey, I just got this last week. I've yet to play it but think it looks pretty fun.
It is a ton of fun! Just difficult! And swaps the paradigm of deck building.

I’ve played this twice now but I will never play it again because all the Clanks and El Dorado are just so much better.

Exactly. I was disappointed wirh this game. Played it wirh my family and they did not enjoy it.
