Just saying... But in a game like Gloom, surely being the only Loser... Kinda makes you the REAL winner... right? Also I'm kinda in love with Amber Benson, just putting that out there.
The first time I played this game, I married one of my opponent's family members to Edward Cullen and she died of shame. Meanwhile, Lola, one of my characters, was tripped down three flights of stairs into the kitchen where she was baked into a stew. she was then shat out, revived, almost burnt to death by a mob, chased by a pack of dogs on her way home, tripped through a window, and was baked into a pie to be eaten and shat out again. Good times, good times.
Amber Benson is probably the only person who can be incredibly adorable and yet twisted and dark at the same time! Can I just point out how everytime someone said something bad happened, everyone went "oh" or just groaned in sympathy and then we have this goofball over here laughing so hard.
+Myles Marrero Yeah, it seems they ignored ALL of the card effects, like an extra -10 for death by rye if you're an alcoholic or the fact that death by despair burns your entire hand.
+Grace Charlton yes I was noticing that one person didn't limit their hand when the text was showing, and none of the discards were taking place. they would have gotten through alot more cards.
I've come to realize that they were ignoring the rules text on the cards and just concentrated on the storytelling. The rules and restrictions on the modifiers can sometimes really distract you from trying to make a story.
Yes, another commenter mentioned that there's an official variant in the instructions recommended for 1st timers and for faster games which says to ignore those rules.
Not to mention the fact that, and correct me if I'm wrong, the rules to Gloom state that you cannot play an Untimely Death card as your 2nd play. Basically, you must play an Untimely Death card as your first play, so you couldn't just put your biggest modifier card down and kill that same character in one turn
My kids got me this game for Christmas (they have been looking at my pinterest wishlist). We have played it several times now and LOVE it. This game had to have been written for my family. Thanks for introducing us to it.
Gosh, good golly and great googly! The wonderfully wicked Wil Wheaton has wiled his way into a winning threeway! How thoroughly thrilling! The finest fray thus far! My favorite! And again, let me add how gaspingly gorgeous Amber is, and such a gracious Gloom gamer!
I decided to look up a TableTop playlist so I'd know which games they've played and which they haven't...bad idea. It's almost 2AM now. Well, luckily my last exam is Tuesday, so I can say up late for this with no ill effects :D .
I remember, once when I played, my opponent had the dog tried for treason. I also had Helena Slogar, the reanimator, steal a body to reanimate it as her new daughter in place of the one that died earlier during the game. Quite a fun game, the stories can get quite crazy.
My first time watching this web show and I absolutely LOVED IT! Not only did you inspire me to want to purchase this game, I had a blast just watching this. Thank you SO MUCH.
Played it for the first time in a long time because ironically one of my friends took pity on the fact that I brought it to game night so many times but nobody would play with me. Basically the Wellington-Smythes had a terrible Christmas feast and the New Years one was only slightly but then the Lord went through a Christmas Carol arc (is my friend being devious and removing all the modifiers) only to be murdered by an angry mob anyway. And then Lola put the family into debt before dying and leaving the lordship to the twins
While I Was working at a phone center, I started playing this game I liked to call Gloomitare. It was basically a single-person game of gloom where all you did was try and beat your score and time. IF you draw a positive card, you play it immediately. It ended up getting me through a lot of really annoying crap at the job. If you have a job that requires a lot of sitting around, give it a try!
"My daddy always said, 'When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade.' But you can't make lemonade out of a dead dog, no matter how hard you try..." --Julie Brown
Gage Nix Buffy is the best show I've ever watched and I'm a big star trek fan. I'm currently reading the comic continuation which is season 8 and 9. Just finished 8 and have volume 1 & 2 of 9 coming from Amazon soon. I'm assuming you're a fan?
Mike Young Yep, great writing overall and great one-liners. One that still I remember to this day is: "I realize that every Slayer comes with an expiration date on the package, but I want mine to be a long time from now. Like a Cheeto." 😝
Gloom looks like so much fun. I cant wait to get my hand on it. This was a great episode i like the story that was told. A season 2 of table top is defiantly needed. Everyone show your support by liking and commenting.
Can you guys please do the Cthulhu version of Gloom with Nika Harper on it? I can only imagine how a macabre narrative game like this would unfold with Nika at the table =D
Were they playing this game right? It seems like they weren't at times. One card could only be played when a certain icon was on a character (when it wasn't), a hand didn't appear to get discarded when prompted to by a card...
I noticed this too, if they do a extended version of this we might see the stage hands correct them on this. Normally if they make a mistake, they fix it off screen and cut it out of the final viewing.
I played Gloom for the first time and yes you are required by the rules to tell a story to justify every card you play. I've played it and it's so much fun. It's like Improv, you got to think of it on the fly.
4:04 Uhhh... thats not a legal move. It says that it can only be played on a character with the heart symbol. First move in the game, already a screw up. Oh well :S
I have to admit that, out of all the games that have been played on TableTop, Gloom is the only one that I not only bought BECAUSE of this episode, but the only one that I made a point of becoming expert at. It's the Addams in my DNA, I suppose. Of course, if TableTop had bothered to play ILLUMINATI, there would have been one other.
Yay Circus! Thanks TableTop. I work at a Circus in Japan and your catastrophic chronicles of circus carnage were clever and highly entertaining! Thank you for entertaining geeks from around the world.
Im glad will finished focusing on his friends female fixation, but he really should have appologized for accosting them with all the annoying alliteration.
As soon as I saw Amber Benson I fangirled some. She was my favorite character on BtVS! Not only that, but she has a great story telling gift! I loved the laugh she did after one of the others said she needed therapy. xD Also loved the running hug to her. This story is amazing! I wouldn't mind playing this game with my friends, considering we all love a good story.
bought this on a lark after watching this episode, I loved that it was clear cards. I live with the lions share of my gaming group. I was a bit hesitant when introducing it. I now get asked 2-3 times a day, if we can play, same with Pandemic.. Thanks wil wheaton... now I'm the coolest person in my gaming group
Was just noticing at the end when Wil was talking to Michele on the couch, she kept looking like she was on the border of crying laughing...especially when she turned to look at him. :)
I ordered this game from my local gaming store because of this episode. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow. I'm looking forward to playing it with my cousins when we get together for Christmas. Thanks for the show, Wil.
i dont understand why this is so addictive. i... cant... stop.... watching...
No one can resist the Wheaton.
its awesome don't resist
jamespooh2 resistance is futile (star trek borg reference :P)
Tempus more like "The Resistance" is futile
Amber was so entertaining on this episode. I love it when the guest get completely into the game and its story telling aspects.
In a way michele boyd won. She was clearly the most gloomy at the end.
^^ This comment made my day.
Only fans when?

000
I totally didn't expect the ending, that was an awesome three-way
victory.
You had us in the first half, ngl.
Did anyone else notice that the card "Widowed at the Wedding" was only supposed to be played on characters with the heart story icon?
Yes!
+Myles Marrero Yeah, it seems they ignored ALL of the card effects, like an extra -10 for death by rye if you're an alcoholic or the fact that death by despair burns your entire hand.
Elle Sea They were playing with the second edition in fact. Thanks for the clarification.
+Myles Marrero They played it without some rules to make it a bit easier and quicker. :) The actual game takes much longer. :)
+Grace Charlton yes I was noticing that one person didn't limit their hand when the text was showing, and none of the discards were taking place. they would have gotten through alot more cards.
The fact that Wesley Crusher and Tara Maclay are both in the same video is just too much awesome for me to handle.
+locutus94 My thoughts exactly-- SUPREME AWESOMENESS!
Okay, that makes sense. I was wondering about this
Not to mention the fact that, and correct me if I'm wrong, the rules to Gloom state that you cannot play an Untimely Death card as your 2nd play. Basically, you must play an Untimely Death card as your first play, so you couldn't just put your biggest modifier card down and kill that same character in one turn
A series of unfortunate events: the game
I'd compare it more to the words of Edward Gorey, like The Gashlycrumb Tinies, mainly due to the art style and pitch-black sense of humor.
Kulit of 1000-ish Faces Oh my gosh. Just made the exact same comment. Mental Gloom fusion.
"M's for Melissa, Molested by Mice." (With apologies to *Edward Gorey* and his _Ghashleycrumb Tinies_.
N is for Nancy, who had a nick in her neck
Katze, Keith Perfect description
Michele won at losing, in a game where losing is winning, so technically, Michele won.
I stand by my mutated logic.
I sense an infinite loop coming.
Extrafreshh
Infinite loop? Nah, it's just a pretzel-shaped turd.
It's so mutated, that its a weasel
Your mutated Moors of Massachusetts mice mentality minding Michelle.
I rewatch this game frequently for the background music :3
My kids got me this game for Christmas (they have been looking at my pinterest wishlist). We have played it several times now and LOVE it. This game had to have been written for my family. Thanks for introducing us to it.
"The scoring is sort of like golf: The player who is the most unhappy..." I never knew the dark side of golf
I found an Episode I haven't watched! holy crap.
I'm nerding out that Amber Benson who played Tara in Buffy is an occultist in real life like her character was.
***** That little shaking was part of the character's anxiety problems. It was very realistic.
I wound up getting this game because of TableTop. Thank you Wil Wheaton! Keep making an awesome show and bringing on cool people!
I haven't played a card game or board game in about 20 years saw this and went and brought the game the following day.
I feel like Will Wheaton would be the best dad ever, as story time would be amazing!
I decided to look up a TableTop playlist so I'd know which games they've played and which they haven't...bad idea. It's almost 2AM now.
Well, luckily my last exam is Tuesday, so I can say up late for this with no ill effects :D .
I love how they all get into the role playing part of the game. I would have a hard time finding three other people who would do that.
You guys are so creative with the stories! Just making them up on the spot like that - and Wil is the king of alliteration!
I love storytelling based games. It taps into your creativity and imagination. Although this game does it in such a funnily morbid way.
I remember, once when I played, my opponent had the dog tried for treason. I also had Helena Slogar, the reanimator, steal a body to reanimate it as her new daughter in place of the one that died earlier during the game.
Quite a fun game, the stories can get quite crazy.
What did the dog do!!
TheDieThrower Isn't it obvious?
He sicked a senator.
mice evolve into rats then the rats evolve into weasels.... found the next pokemon evolution chain
Kamgalash I mean have you seen trump?
Hi taric
Then weaselzaloun the eater of worlds
I would've loved to see the full gameplay :D
I bet quite a many awesome stories where left to the floor of the editing room...
Wil's aptitude for alliteration is astounding, astonishing and admirable.
This is exactly how you play Gloom. You need to weave the story. Great vid.
My first time watching this web show and I absolutely LOVED IT! Not only did you inspire me to want to purchase this game, I had a blast just watching this. Thank you SO MUCH.
Sounds like Tim Burton came up with the concept for this game.
It was either him or American McGee.
Matt Briddell tim Burton isn't this creative
I Think the they're inspired more by Edward Gorey's art... drawings are very similar...
Came to watch when the sequel, Gloomier is out on Kickstarter ~~
I miss this show badly😢
This is my favorite episode so far. I bought this game for my brother's birthday. We had a great time playing. Thank you for the introduction!
I love the casual slip in by Wil of the Porcupine Racetrack a reference of course to MTV’s “ The State” which was an awesome show. 😀
Gloom has given me a great way to introduce my friends to storytelling games. Thanks Wil!
You know who'd love this game? A certain deadric Prince who's name rhymes with Mayo-gorath.
Um. Meridiath?
Fredrick Everson What?
MrMaradok Oh, wait. You're talking about Molag Balath. Or is it Azurath? Hermaeus Morath?
Fredrick Everson It's Sheogorath.
MrMaradok Don't know that one. Maybe you mean Mehrunes Dagonath?
Throughout the vid I kept hearing "Darius Dark" as "D'Arya Stark"
This has been my favorite episode by far. The story telling was fantastic.
Loved this episode. The tension between the ladies was quite something. Funny game, I like a little morbid humor!
I know this is an old video, but can someone link me that classical music during scoring rounds, I simply MUST HAVE IT
it sounds awesome
Does this remind anyone of the series of unfortunate events books?
Pug Man definitely. I really wish they bring out a series of unfortunate events expansion.
Pug Man it’s on crack though
Wow Michelle is super cute!
She IS & you gotta watch "The Guild" (online) if you haven't already. She is fantastic in it!... It was just too short! 🥰
Played it for the first time in a long time because ironically one of my friends took pity on the fact that I brought it to game night so many times but nobody would play with me. "If Amber puts her dog down, she is absolutely going to win."
*LOL*
"My daddy always said, 'When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade.' But you can't make lemonade out of a dead dog, no matter how hard you try..." --Julie Brown
Well you know what they say: where there's a Will, there's a way...
Wil may have been the pro at alliteration but Amber wins on puns. "Mice-tro", ha!
12:54: That is just priceless in its randomness! Gotta love that laugh!
This episode was great. And the guests were even greater! fell in love with Michele Boyd due to the Magic video and this.
I want to be famous enough to play on Tabletop, because playing board games will Wil Wheaton > the actual being famous part.
Did anyone notice that certain cards can only be played on cards with specific symbols? It is noticeable on the first turn.
Yeah I noticed as well
they seemed ot ignore a lot of the card draw/discard rules too - at least they were consistent
They also seem to have ignored some of the effects that give you bonus points when the character died while having certain symbols on him.
Someone in another comment mentioned that one of the variants recommended in the rules for quicker play and for 1st-timers ins to ignore these parts.
OMG Tara !!!
Finally someone else who has watched Buffy
Gage Nix Buffy is the best show I've ever watched and I'm a big star trek fan.
I'm currently reading the comic continuation which is season 8 and 9. Just finished 8 and have volume 1 & 2 of 9 coming from Amazon soon.
I'm assuming you're a fan?
I really miss Buffy. It had some great writing which I don't see much in anything current.
Gloom is one of my favorite card games and this video was a huge influence on our decision to do Gloom, the Digital Edition.
Smug Will Cutout is awesome.
"Old! Alone! Done for!" I understood that reference!
In this episode of Tabletop, the voice of Meghan Camarena will be played by Felicia Day.
I like how excited Wil is, makes these games so much more fun to watch.
The Massholes of the Moors of Massachusetts. This is my new favorite alliteration.
Amber is the most adorable human in the entire world.
Even if they didn't play right, it was super entertaining
Actually it's the rules to play it that way if it's your first time playing it
Can you guys please do the Cthulhu version of Gloom with Nika Harper on it? I can only imagine how a macabre narrative game like this would unfold with Nika at the table =D
Thanks Tabletop - I went out and bought this for me and my friends and we had a great time at our board game day :)
Had to relive this episode. Love Amber Benson's morbid story telling. Anxiously waiting for a second season. My Thursdays are sad now without it.
The cards have effects, but they don't seem to show it
Well they do; as one such said draw or discard two upon playing, one said when played to discard your hand...
Yeeeeeah, they screwed up a lot. xD The only game they've played that I know well enough for it to bug me.
In the rules you can play a more basic beginners game, which involves not using the effects on the cards. Just play with the modifiers.
Will? Are you going to try to play Boss Monster the card game on Tabletop? it´s a pretty fun game when you are four people.
Meghan's voice is kinda soothing. haha
Amber just giggles after the most morbid story, she's awesome! XP
I played Gloom for the first time and yes you are required by the rules to tell a story to justify every card you play. I've played it and it's so much fun. It's like Improv, you got to think of it on the fly.
just noticed, they don't follow the effects on the cards...
They did, they just didn't show it.
Im surprised no one made a Buffy joke
Meghan could totally play Anna Kendrick's sister
This is still one of my favorite episodes, because everyone has such a blast playing the game.
as a person who loved (and still does) Buffy to death i LOVE the darkness from amber, really brings me back seeing her
4:04 Uhhh... thats not a legal move. It says that it can only be played on a character with the heart symbol. First move in the game, already a screw up. Oh well :S
Maybe they were playing with different house rules. You never know. The game is also usually played with 5 family members instead of 4.
They are not using the texts. The beginner version is that you just ignore the black boxes.
I love Amber...
Just picked up this at my local tabletop games shop (who are big fans of the show!), and I can't wait to play it!
Yay Circus! Thanks TableTop. I work at a Circus in Japan and your catastrophic chronicles of circus carnage were clever and highly entertaining! Thank you for entertaining geeks from around the world.
"And the very worst thing you can do for a friend...... is bring them job"? - Close Caption.
So... Meghan is a youtuber huh...
New mission in life. get big on youtube so I can play on tabletop
Im glad will finished focusing on his friends female fixation, but he really should have appologized for accosting them with all the annoying alliteration.
Let's face it. We are all suckers for lilting lines of lyrical alliteration.
Wil Wheaton's wonderful weaving of alliteration really added to the episode.
As soon as I saw Amber Benson I fangirled some. She was my favorite character on BtVS!
Not only that, but she has a great story telling gift! I loved the laugh she did after one of the others said she needed therapy. xD
Also loved the running hug to her. This story is amazing!
I wouldn't mind playing this game with my friends, considering we all love a good story.
i have this game Cthulhu edition
How curious.... They're not following any of the instructions on the actual cards!
Well in the instruction manual for the second version it recommends playing without the rules first time playing it
She may have lost but she is still the cutest... so... its ok.
21:04 Yes, the mice on the moors of Massachusetts mutated and micturated, making muddy messes.
I bought this and tried it out on my sister, who excels at telling doom and gloom stories. Gloom is marvelous, thanks for introducing me to it.
cough cough 3-way anyone? (sorry I had to do it!)
They were hinting at that so much. (i.e. when Wil said "I'm finally in a three way!")
Michelle did not play Riley, she played Stupid Tall Hot Girl ^^
btw this episode was great!
Strawburry17 wasn't cut out for this game. I would love to see this game with more animated players. Wil and Amber can stay!
I always have so much fun watching these!
'The very worst thing you can do is bring them jib.' - sub for opening, hehe.
bought this on a lark after watching this episode, I loved that it was clear cards.
I never would have thought that Will would have the thrill to feel this three-way triumph!
Awww, I wanted to give Michele a hug at the end
