Sections of the manganese ore transport and storage sector in Nelson Mandela Bay remain under fire. Manganese operators in the Markman Industrial Area face allegations of regulation non-compliance. While the municipality is accused of turning a blind eye. Then there are also the environmental and health hazards linked to the substance used in steel and iron production. It's estimated that as many as 1000 trucks are transporting the substance from the storage warehouses from Markman to the harbour daily, damaging roads and affecting stormwater infrastructure on the route.
