    I forgot to include the answer to sentence 9. : ( It's an incorrect sentence because "advice" is an uncountable noun. We cannot add an "s".

    • @مصطفىإدريسي-ز1ك
      @مصطفىإدريسي-ز1ك 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      That's funny, In the Arabic language, advice is a countable noun, we say "one advice, two advices..." so we have the plural...
      I guess every language has different rules.

      Which one is the correct one the sentence with "it" or the sentence with "they"
      Plz teacher if you see my question.i hope to give me an answer🙏

    • @AccurateEnglish

      The correct sentence is: "Thank you for your excellent advice. "It really helped me." We use "it" with uncountable nouns.

    Rise and shine, Lisa!
    I watched and corrected and improved my English grammar competency where I lagged behind. But while watching it, I came across you fourth question and didn't quite well understand your explanation. I wonder why you didn't backshift " have to " into " had to . It is a reported speech and verbs must be backshifted into one tense back. That's called a sequence of tome in English grammar. I am sure you know it. Your sentence: 4) My doctor told me that I have to exercise more, and that I don't have time. When we convert Direct speech into Reported speech, the verbs must be backshifted one tense back, mustn't they? My sentence: My doctor told me that I had to exercise more, and that I didn't have to smoke. What's your take on that? I appreciate it. Thumbs up! You are our Pride and Joy!
    Cheers!

    • @AccurateEnglish
      @AccurateEnglish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand your question. In indirect speech we generally back shift the tense, but not always. If what is said is still true at the time of reporting then we can retain the tense. So if I still have to exercise, (from my example about the doctor's advice) then we don't back shift the tense. Here are two sample sentences: "He told me that he spoke French at the meeting." (the meeting happened in the past) versus: "He told me that he speaks French." (It's a fact that is still true today.) When teaching the back shifting rule in reported speech, English teachers often omit this second point.
