  • This is the video from my adventure on the European Divide Bikepacking Trail in 2022. I set out to ride the southern part of the trail and ended up riding through Portugal, Spain and France. There is also a section from the Eurovelo 15 through Germany that ended my long ride this year.
    Grab a beer, sit back and enjoy it and don't forget to subscribe, comment and like!
    :)
    There is some rather poor audio, but I decided to leave the original audio from when I was out on the trail in there rather than re-record it, it felt more authentic.

    I can and can't imagine how these hills must've felt recovering from Covid. It's different for every person, I know that. And I didn't feel oke even weeks after the actual infection. Much props to you for going on such a bold adventure. And I can only second tonypaddler there in down in the comments - very enjoyable video. I will watch it properly with a nice cup of coffee later on. Thanks for going through the effort of making this! Cheers!

    Nice to see emphasis on best possible way to enjoy the trip vs speed runs lol. Weight be damned! It's a weight sacrifice to carry filming gear but great that you did. 👍

      I sure you will have a great ride, the trail is fantastic! I didn’t get to do the part through Germany as I rode along the Rhine River instead but the southern part was just great. Be interesting to hear what you think of it if you get that far. I hope to do the northern part this summer if I can just manage to get some time away from work.
      Have a great ride!

    Thanks for this great document! How's the wild camping opportunities from Southern France until Cologne? Do you possibly know what the rules/laws are?

    • @wombat.vision
      @wombat.vision  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As far as I know, wild camping is not allowed in France or Germany. That said, there were plenty of places to camp on the sly and it should not be any problem as long as you take the usual free camping precautions. Very nice section of the trail and plenty of great views!

    Okay and now some questions: At what time of the year did you do the trip? And what's the tent you're using? It looks pretty light - and maybe not so much rain withstanding. Any (negative) experiences?

    •  8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thanks! The first few weeks were definitely hard.
      :)
      I started the trip in the middle of February, possibly too early to be optimal, but it was more or less necessary as I was planning to stop and work for 3 weeks in Barcelona.
      The tent is a Z-Packs Duplex tent and I have been very happy with it. I have used it for almost 6 years now, for both bikepacking and long-distance hikes. It is completely waterproof and you can watch my review of it here:

    I think the tyre width is an important detail ! I have a gravel and a Mountainbike( Fully) , a Bike between would be good !! Gravelbike tire width 42 mm, Mtb 2.2 !!!!

    •  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, my bike had 2.2 tyres and I don’t think I would have liked to have done the southern part of the EDB with thinner tyres. Not sure how the northern section is…

    • @wombat.vision
      @wombat.vision  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For most of the riding videos, I used an Insta 360 2. I then exported 2 versions of the video, one facing forward and one towards me. Finally, I combined them both in DaVinci Resolve and made the one of me smaller in the picture.

    • @wombat.vision
      @wombat.vision  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I managed to camp every time I wanted to. The beauty of being more of an off-road trail is that it was never really difficult to find a quiet place to camp.
      But in the towns and cities, I usually stayed in hostels, hotels or with warm shower hosts.
