Man that Tuba player is amazing to even be able to play it with any clarity. He could have easily 8vb it but to stay in range shows his mastery as a musician.
I play on a Bach 1.25C. It's a common one for orchestral players. I find the 3C is a good all-arounder mouthpiece. It just depends what your playing needs are. Hope that helps!
What camera and Mic did you use to record audio/video simultaneously. I have upcoming auditions and would love any suggestions for an external mic for an iPad Pro if you have any. Great Video!
So I used a Sony A7iii and recorded video separate from audio. Audio was a Cascade Fathead mic into a Scarlett 2i4 interface. Recorded using Logic Pro. I then synchronized the audio and video files in Final Cut. That's why you see me clap at the beginning of the video - in order to easier synchronize the audio and video files during editing. Hope this helps!
each instrument should play in its own normal range. It is ridiculous to ask different ranged instrument play in the same range as the original piece of music. What happens if a piece is picked that features a low tuba solo. how are the trumpets going to play 3 octaves lower? a octave below their peddle range? the plan is to compare each persons musicality. you can't do that if the music is written outside of the instruments normal range.
This is valid. It’s definitely not a requirement to play in the written octave, but I think people like the added challenge of the correct octave... to varying degrees of success. We played Hungarian Dance for one Excerpt Challenge and the trumpet played it 3 octaves above the written pitch. In that case octave transposition was very necessary 😅
@@TwoButtonBrass I understand, but in this case musicality suffered greatly. I was fun watching them try, but....... in my humble opinion, they should made their final submission word their best rendition.
@@1946psoren Right! Also, considering this was just the 2nd episode (currently working on #9) we weren’t certain this series would get any attention. Now, I think it’s much more competitive so contestants are trying harder to put their best foot forward in order to win lol
Gotta love the algorithm recommending this 4 months late. Better late than never I guess!
The algorithm works in mysterious ways 😆
Same lol 4 months
Welcome one and all 😀
Same lmao
i would like this but....
nice

Much appreciated! That's why we call him Cam the Tuba Man!
It almost knocked me out of my chair when you said "Skip, on the french horn." Because I play horn. And my nickname is also Skip.
No way! That’s a crazy coincidence 😳
This youtube channel is super underrated i just subbed
Thanks for being here! 🙌🏽 Hoping to continue posting quality content
Nailed it.
Should’ve tried on alto 😂 great job
Heckin' heck. GG Mr. Trombone.
GG Indeed. He blows us all away with that range 😁
The 4th movement is sublime.
One of the greatest all-string movements of any symphony, no doubt
The third is my favorite.
The video starts at 3:24
Thanks
Niceeee
What mouthpiece do you play on? I’ve been wanting to switch from a 3C to something else but don’t know what to get

More people need to see this
Thanks for that! We have a fun time making these videos 😀
Do you have any mic recommendations for low brass? Maybe something for all brass?
I think ribbon mics work nicely for low brass. I use a Cascade Fathead. For a good all-around budget mic, you can’t go wrong with the Shure SM57
#suggestion you should try this challenge with strings and different Richard Strauss Excerpts
Yes!! It may even be cool to have a string player as a guest judge 🤔
Ay glad you pointed out the rite of spring (I play bassoon). Love the video, y’all deserve more subs
Appreciate it!! Gotta show the double reeds some love. Don't tell anyone, but we may or may not have a bassoon Excerpt Challenge coming out soon 🤐
If you had heard the plastic trumpet without knowing it was a plastic trumpet....
why did you do a sforzando in sempre forte in mahler 5... ?
Because it's in the score! Check out the C.F. Peters Ed. (1919 revision), which is the most widely used edition.
"I hate treble clef with a burning passion", now you know how us treble clef people feel about bass clef! lol
If we really wanted to level the playing field, we'd do an excerpt in alto clef 💀
@@TwoButtonBrass as a bassist I will gladly take treble over tenor clef
@@yevgenydodzin9849 as a trumpet player, I’d gladly take tenor over bass 😅
@@TwoButtonBrass true. I would take any clef over ledger lines
When I clicked on this video i was certain your channel had at least 50k subs, will definitely be subbing and liking
Thanks for that!! Hopefully someday 😅
I also use a Cascade Fathead, I noticed the it has low gain. Do you use a mic pre-amp to increase the gain?
That would be a good bet. I don’t personally, so I usually have to increase the gain and add compression in post
Love it!
shiny tuba
Trombone guy should have used the alto trombone!
That definitely would’ve helped 😂
Idk if you guys take suggestions, but could you guys do Bach toccata and fugue in D minor?
Love that piece! Might just be fun to record the whole thing as opposed to just an excerpt!
@@TwoButtonBrass I would love that!
The moment I read the title, I knew what it was going to be.
Nicely done 👍🏼
I want that tuba tone for that octave aaaaaaa
We love screaming high tuba ❤️
@@TwoButtonBrass we sure do :D

I love using the Zoom iQ7 for good quality audio for iOS products (iPad, iPhone)
@@TwoButtonBrass Thanks a lot! Will definitely be looking into all these!
Who’s skib
we don't completely know... he's very mysterious. But we do know he plays the french horn
Damn Tubas represent! That was great!
We love to see tubas playing trumpet excerpts 😂
This is great. I love mahler :)
Mahler + torilla = an unlikely combo. But I love it!
New Sub
Welcome! Glad to have you here 🙏🏼
shostys 8th symphony would also be a nice excerpt
Ohhhhh, good suggestion!
Only 550 subscribers? Wow
Trying to grow that number slow and steady!!

you could say a french horn is an orchestral instrument and you should get yourselves a tenor horn which is actually a brass instrument
Haha I wonder how our horn player would feel about that! Personally, I'd love to get my hands on a tenor horn (trumpet player here)
Bro I know Richie in person lol, one of my friends brother. Crazy
No way! We'll tell him hi for you 😁
Shouldve done petrushka
Definitely a strong contender for a future episode 👀
The trumpeter is hott!!
Ha! You must be talking about the plastic trumpeter 😝
Talkin' to God.......
Is that a Mark Gould reference I hear? 😎
