More than time limits are needed, there needs to be a way to police how the supreme court judges conduct themselves and penalties for their behaviour, whether it be from actions or spoken. They think they are above the law.
Laws must be passed to enforce a stringent code of ethics and term limits are absolutely necessary!

Not a direct link but making rulings that directly affect the family's financial portfolio is worth a look.

*No Lifetime Appointments Ever*
Absolutely! No government position should ever come with a lifetime appointment.
We'd better have a decent impartiality solution ready to hand then -- lifetime appointments do tend to shield courts from the baying crowds and their populist, often minority-victimizing whims. A fixed retirement age, regardless of age at appointment, is one replacement to 'lifetime'. The worst outcome would be to have judges with renewable terms, where they could serve for more than one term, and thus would be incentivized to be 'popular' or 'politically attractive' in their decision making. One virtue of 'for life' is that it precludes the possibility of further periods of service, at least as a judge here on Earth.

A judge's daughter who doesn't live with him and doesn't have any legal entanglement with him, can cause the judge to be conflicted.
But a different judge's wife, who he is actually legally entangled with, who he shares a house and probably a bed with, does not cause *that* judge to be conflicted.

The consistency is republicans realized they can say anything, no matter how nonsensical or false, and it doesn’t matter. All the supporters made up their mind long ago and just need to be presented with something to point at to justify it. So they give them that. The supporters don’t care what it is or how ridiculous it is, as long as it is something they can repeat to justify their belief. Because if they admitted the real reasons why they support them….. well, they would have to admit to being dumb pawns or admit to being an awful person.

The argument isn't how the justices jobs differ, it was that how can two different judges be held to different standards of recusal. At the end of the day they are both judges and need to be held to the same standard of conduct and ethics, rank does not matter in this situation.

The Constitution allows for a Justice to be impeached but good luck getting Congress do do the right thing instead of what their party wants. It would go about as well as trying to impeach a President. Almost every Senator admitted in 2021 that Trump was guilty and should have been convicted on his Jan 6 impeachment but the party didn't want the black eye so they made lame excuses like "he is already out of office so it does nothing to impeach him" / "congress can't impeach a normal citizen" and other crap like that as to why they didn't vote to convict. Even my own states Senator who is a very staunch conservative and not wrapped up in the MAGA craziness voted against the impeachment conviction and handed out a lame excuse as noted. The levers are in place. It isn't a fault with the Constitution; it is a fault in the people that we put in place to uphold the Constitution. They have all forgotten what it means to do right by the country and instead just do right by their party. And yes the Democrats play all these same stupid games when the Republicans are in power. Look no further than the House when they impeached McCarthy. The Democrats had the power to squash that nonsense and get back to the business of running the country and instead they allowed a small MAGA minority to completely turn over the system because it made the Republicans look bad. The chaos that followed benefited their party, not the country.
"Why is there ZERO accountability for these judges" - There *IS* accountability (impeachment) but it requires a simple majority in the House and a two-thirds vote of those present in the Senate. The reason we cannot achieve that now is because about half of the country has decided that it wants to change the U.S. to fascism rather than a democratic republic.
Alito has to go obviously. The Supreme court has absolutely no validity as long as he is sitting on it. He has to resign. Recusal in just one case is not enough.

The problem is that in order for any of these changes to happen would require a constitutional amendment which requires a 2/3 vote in both houses. Something that is unlikely to happen any time soon.

As sad and pathetic as it is, the regular citizens mean nothing to and have no control over the Supreme Court. The only ones with any power over the Supreme Court are those in Congress, with the power of impeachment (which is now impossible for any Republican judge/justice).
Alito and Thomas should show some respect for being a supreme court justice and step down.

No need to impeach, the constitution does not specify impeachment for Judges. The standard for removal is nowhere near as high as "High crimes and misdemeanors", judges must merely maintain "Good behavior" which clearly bribe taking, in the cases of Thomas and Alito, is NOT Good behaviour.

@@douglasarcher9544 not so, federal judges can be impeached, and historically there have been judges who were impeached and removed from office. The full standard in the Constitution is “treason, bribery, high crimes and misdemeanors“. The reports of both Alito and Thomas taking money and favors from people with interests in cases before the Supreme Court make a strong case for impeachment and removal on grounds of bribery.
Trump's comment proves that it was a biased action. Alito should recuse himself.

I believe you are right that the American people should have the right to vote in, and out of office Judges, but we haven't been doing so good on electing members of government in a while. We make choices from what we are given, never really doing research on them, just from the party that they represent, and the lies they tell to get elected. Who in their right mind voted for a Pay To Play Bobert or M.T.G. thinking this was a good idea. Or people like Rep. Jess Edwards that referred to young girls as being "ripe" and "fertile" this week when trying to block a ban on underage marriages.

Alito has recused himself from decisions before when he and his wife got shares in various companies from her late father's will . So what's different this time ? It appears that while he's happy to do the right thing when money is involved ( as he should ) he's not prepared to do that on ideological grounds . As a member of SCOTUS this is an unacceptable position as it would suggest that all his previous decisions were influenced by his ideological bias rather than a cold reading of the constitution . The duty of the Senate is clear in this matter and both Alito and IMO Thomas should be investigated and also prevented from making any rulings untill those ivestigations are complete .

As a non american following what is going on I get out of breath. It seems as the system of jusitice, law a d order is falling apart more and more. It's horrifying to watch. The impact of politicians without honnor, being able to control who become judges giving them political favors seems to be massive.
