it was the shit back then wasn't it? I actually got into YGO right around when Synchros were coming around. I was the first of my group of duel buddies to have synchros and for almost an entire school year the only one. They eventually caved in and tried it out...only to find that they actually loved them! I was so proud to be the ones to introduce them to the wonders of Synchro summoning, and to me, Synchros (Especially those first, 5D's ones) will always be special.
Joel Gawne Well I stopped playing the game when synchros were like at their high point and like 2014 I started it again Back then I loved the synchros I bought two decks 1 starter and 1 structure deck played a mix out of both and then 1 year later I got the legendary collection 5ds I was super happy and now I play a deck with 15 Synchro monsters because I love them And fuck link summoning nobody in my circle of friends plays links either so I'm good to go
Remember how synchro came out with a rule change on fusion deck(to extra deck w/ its limit) right after the huge fusion season of XG where hero fusions was all the rage? yeah, that's the shaft that made me stop playing. I spent a lot of money building my 50 card fusion deck thank you very much, I am not taking that lying down. And while I don't quite need all 50, some are rarely used, a proper hero fusion deck do need around 30, with about 10 pairs of the easier to use ones like lightning giant and 10 singles like shiny and some of the dark heroes. The versatility was the only way the otherwise subpar deck can even function. So synchro completely killed all those cards. And god damn, some of those aren't cheap.
max brown yea I used to have the fake Spanish exodia that was complete in 1 card. as soon as I drew it I said in my pharaoh voice "EXODIA OBLIIITTTEEERRRAATTTEEE!!!!!" the heart of the cards was with me to say the least haha!
interesting thing about Tornado Wall is my buddy had a misprint version which said something like, "any damage to your life points is reduced to 0." So there was LITERALLY no way to do damage while that card was up. That shit was a nightmare. Also DNA Surgery and Insect Barrier, we used that a lot
@@codybussell268 am Thai and the most horrible misprint I never fought is Future fusion + Cimeratech overdargon Cause it print like “ future fusion = use monster in deck to summon fusion monster from extra deck after 3 turn this card left the field destroy the monster that special summon by this card CO = when this card summons destroy all other card on the field gain 800x per material and Can attack per material
Slightly warped rules, the redirecting Vampire doubts bs, Sakuretsu armour bs, Typhoon bs, Destiny Hero guardian and big shield guardian and then some! I remember even back in a different situation when a kid put on a show (with me and everybody else perplexed, at least me) in the field in the breaks with Ancient Gear Fist, making it a card that just destroyed the targeted monster. When he equipped it it was over in those short mass duels in that limited time lol I wanted to read that effect lol
I remember Dark Hole was a must have card back then. The kids usually didn't care about banned cards and Dark Hole was an easy way to destroy your friend's most powerful monster in one turn. And then the follow up card to use was Monster Reborn. XD
so i yata locked someone in middle school which i didnt even know was a thing i thought both cards were sick. after that someone went and found the banned list because they thought it shouldnt be allowed in the game at all. that kid ruined so many peoples deck.
So did I xD, I went above and beyond and made a Cyber end dragon with limiter removal plus Jinzo, everyone hated me and some kid always told me he would buy my deck every week adding 50 bucks every time. Still have those cards with me and don't regret not selling xD.
YES! I was just thinking about that. My older sister had one and it was infuriating that "nothing could stop it". Lol she beat me so many times before we discovered the difference between flavour text and effects
the fake exodia card that was Exodia in one card and had infinite ATK and infinite DEF I remember when it was around the first time it was by some asian kid who claimed he got it on vacation in his home country and it just hasnt been released offically here that was still in elementary school so we really didnt know about fake and real cards
We had the illegal god cards. Since there was no effect, we assumed they were immune to all effects. We also thought slifer had 10K ATK bc it was X000.
my friend did that shit and I hated it so much cause I had pretty much no counter. He wanted to play by duelist kingdom rules a lot where you didn't have to tribute for monster, but I wanted battle city rules because I knew that with duelist kingdom rules, the second he drew a god card it was game over, whereas with battle city he'd actually have to set up a board to summon them and there with things I could do to stop him.
I don't think that MST ever used to negate. That's some scrubby schoolyard sh*t right there, lol. The yugioh video games are a better teacher of how the trading card game is properly played than the kid on the playground that everyone used to know back in the day
us kids back when the game first began just copied what the pharaoh or kaiba did in the show. use giant soldier of stone to destroy the mystical moon, water monsters where killed by lightning cards like summoned skull, launching monsters off of catapult turtle, toons could dodge any attack, if you had crush card and got its effect off you were going to win. we basically played by duelist kingdom rules since the real life rules weren't created yet.
Mattheuw1154 i no what you mean i had slifer and obelisk the only kid who had god cards i tell you what i felt like a god wish i could go back in time with my deck at the moment and just destroy them lol winged dragon of ra phoenix will do hahaha
Mattheuw1154 Same! I couldn't build my hero deck on my own so me and a friend pooled the relevant cards together and built an insane one together. It was so cool having Jaden's manga and anime cards, good times.
@huong ma yeah when we were kids we had so much more imagination and we would just get together and create together and play together now we're all alone and enjoy other people's creativity alone on TV by ourselves... even if your married and have a kid or roommate your just a zombie, a shell of your former self before puberty when you were free to be without doubt your existential self
I didnt draw the labyrinth btw my best friend has a RUG in his room of a Big City with streets and buildings and we would make the monsters travel through the city to get to the other side to Inflict LP Damage. Similar to Dungeon Duel Dice Monsters. But the monsters themselves aren't the pathway
When that episode debut, my dad helped me and my youngest brother make a table with movable maze pieces to make our cards move around. And if anyone played Magical Labyrinth, we would move the pieces around while not damaging our cards. Sadly we had to move a few months later and we couldnt take the table with us
The worst card ? Deck destruction virus. In english. In a french school. Nobody could read the card, but we all watched the anime, so we used (our understanding of) the anime effect : you use it, your opponent send every single 1500+ monster from their deck to their graveyard. Oh, and Blue-eyes of course, when everybody thought "summon big guy, win", it was seen as the biggest beast, one kid had four of them, everybody tried to be his friend to get one.
Fondest memories, Kids using those fake cards with no Yu-Gi-Oh trademark, Man Eater bug spam, 100 card + decks, Playing fusion monsters for free, No tribute summing, Not paying 2000lp for mirror wall because Mai didn't do that, People either hated Kaiba or loved him there was no in between, Red Eyes Black dragon was only used just because it was a cooler blue eyes, Jar of greed spam with graceful Charity's, Mirror force was king, Solorflare dragon+ solorflare dragon+ solorflare dragon+solorflare dragon+solorflare dragon, Toon World was actually shit, Everyone had relinqushed, What the hell is Obnoxious Celtic guardian, God cards were shit, Wtf I gotta tribute summon my blue eyes now, Monster reborn was so over used that nobody realized how broken it was until it was banned years after I stopped playing, Mai was fap material, We all wanted Joey to win, Battle City arc was mind-blowing when first aired, Did miss anything?
Well I had that, millennium shield and Neo Aqua madoor. All 3000 defence monsters to use sword and shield on... Except I didn't have sword and shield...
Stefan Lazarevic when I was really young, about 4 or 5, my sister and i didn't know english so we played a game kinda like War. We just pulled a card at the same time and whoever had the strongest card,or other times the ugliest card would win
For me, Summon Skull was OP. Only required 1 tribute to summon a 2500 beater while Dark Magician and Blue Eyes White Dragon required 2 tributes. De-Spell was also good. In those days, you could play spell cards straight from the hand during any players turn and De-Spell would negate it. I knew this one kid who had all 5 pieces of Exodia, so that was pretty dope.
Kuronosa Yeah I mean back in those days it pretty much read you opponent's strongest monster can't attack. And when they did get their second monster you'd flip ordeal of the traveler and watch the opponent cry or go for the throat.
Probably my weirdest/dumbest experiences when playing Yugioh was with 2 cards. The Wicked Dreadroot and "Share the Pain" spell card. We thought it be a cool idea to play a "shadow game" like they did in the anime and what this meant was when someone took battle damage, someone next to us would punch us in the arm and intensity depended on how much damage we took. Using this logic, when my friend played "Share the Pain" he actually physically punched us really hard in the arm and he told us to punch him really hard too on his arm and then he'd use the effect like normal. The next is the Wicked Dreadroot and what happened here is that we didn't understand the diff between "Halve" and "Have". We thought it was a printing mistake. The person with this card would then take all the attack and def of a card and do *whatever he wanted with it*. He would either use it to increase Dreadroot's attack and def points, gain life points equal to the total, or some other obscured thing. This, of course, more times than not lead to a instant victory when dreadroot was summoned. Good times.
I found a tactic that probably not around back then - astral barrier and spirit barrier! Astral Barrier makes the attack a direct attack. Spirit Barrier made you take 0 battle damage while you control a monster. This means you can protect your life points and your monsters from battle! Just... Not... Card effects...
I felt more accomplished building decks back then. Now they are basically pre-built for you with all these archetypes. I mean sure, you can add your own cards. But you will be playing an archetype that Konami already decided for you.
I remember when I got Chaos Sorcerer and built a Dark/Light deck around him. Having mixup cards like Great Maju Garzett and Freed the Brave Wanderer was so cool to me. I’ll always be proud of that deck
Malevolent JoKing I destroy people with my old school water deck because it’s so unconventional. I remember fucking up my friends red eyes xyz deck so hard because he wasn’t prepared for my Stone Age weaponry.
That card is the shit. If you flip effect on your turn you can bounce an enemies monster and itself and just keep repeating itself. People were so annoyed by that hahaha
@@VitoBurrito My friends and I realized you could use the effect to send itself back even if it was attacked because the effect resolves before penguin soldier goes to the graveyard.
Played Blue Eyes White Dragon, and when it came to my friend's turn, he played kuriboh in attack position. He then executed an EPIC PLAY, swapping my BLWD for his Kuriboh using SOUL EXCHANGE, and then attacked. Well, joke was on HIM, because I used Kuriboh's effect to nullify that attack, which - amusingly - resulted in him complimenting my good play. epic playground yugioh moments
I remember when I was in school there was a time when all my friends and I interpreted 0 defence points as "infinite", and thus using Dragon Zombie with Ring of Magnetism was an unkillable combo. We were not clever.
I remember when a friend of mine got that damn card, took me forever to get a counter, it was just karma payback as my 2nd pack ever had a mirror force in it.
Osiris lol tribute or gearfried the iron knight. Loved using gearfried with blast with chain. Was like come at me bro! Vampire Lord would get me good back then until lol cyber dragon. Shame fusion and rituals could die so easily until nowadays
I had a deck with these, xing xeng hu, kaiser colusseum, des wombat and that spell card that did 200 damage and then doubled each turn. Total lockdown when I managed to ever get the plays right. Which was like, 20% of the times, but hey, we were kids.
@ Tuav Xiong Aww yeah bro, my one buddy had a pretty legit gravity deck that gave people at the locals a run for their money. It didn't even have any cohesion or real synergy it was just so full of counters, bounces, negations, destruction, reversed damage, direct attack monsters and burn dmg that it just was unbeatable from sheer versatility unless he got a bad hand or his opponent got some decent back row clear coupled with monster destruction and didn't give him time to rebuild his defenses. That deck lasted him through three years of duels until the rest of us built decks (mostly archetypal) that caught up to his deck's "level" and managed to pierce those iron walls of defense easily.
Were we the only ones who used Sakuretsu armor becaused we thought it negates the attack? Man, everyone of us had like 3 of them in their decks... it was so annoying
It destroys the attacking monster when it declares an attack, so it basicaly acomplishes the same thing as negating attack...sakuretsu armor was widely used in competitive play back around 2005 when i played.
I remember me and my brother used to play with these decks made mostly from cards that our uncle gave us when he stopped playing and for some reason a lot of the cards he gave us were just normal monsters, front row removal, and counter traps. Most duels went like this: Brother: *Summons Koumori Dragon and sets card in back row.* Me: *Summons Harpy Lady and sets card in back row.* Brother: *Attacks harpie with dragon.* Me: *Activates Mirror Force.* Brother: *Glares at me angrily and ends his turn* Me: *Tributes harpie to summon Amphibian Beast and attacks directly.* Brother: *Activates Negate Attack.* Me: *Ends turn but feels totally fine because at least he didn't destroy it.* Brother: *Activates Hammer shot.* Duels usually ended whenever somebody's Blue Eyes White Dragon got nuked and they got mad and quit because it took them so long to get it onto the field. I'm glad we eventually got our own structure decks so we could actually play the game.
In middle school, my biggest problem I had was my friend having gravity bind. My deck had lvl 4 monsters with tributes and equip and very little to get rid of it His deck had monsters lvl 3 or lower and monsters that were able to attack me directly I remembered I had to buy strong lvl 3 monster to beat him and that's when I learned that having a variety of cards is useful lol
giant soldier of stone was incredibly cool because of that. 3 Stars, 1300 Attack and 2000 defense it was probably the strongest no tribute defense monster when the game was fresh.
@@sburbtube6766 I used to run a fun legendary ocean deck, gravity bind, tornado wall, limit area A, and astral barrier made my field untouchable, and once it was setup i would summon cards like star boy, nightmare penguin, and axe of despair to kill any possible jinzos and save an mst for imperial wall.
Nowadays if a monster with 3000 atk doesn't have like five effects and/or a ridiculously easy summoning condition they're not considered worth it. Oh how the times have changed.
the problem was not "Space Tyhpoon was at one" ... MST was a ULTRA RARE when i started playing... and even getting a SUPER rare was hard xD so you hyped every reprint which was made. When MST FINALLY was a common most kids could finally use a backrow removal. So you basically had 3 Trap hole (where in starter), Dark Hole (Starter), Monster Reborn (Starter), Waboku (Starter) and Pot of Greed (just a rare) that where the cards everyone used and where considered good :D for a llooooong time btw: i started with LOB (i was 17 at that time) so we "older" players had constant discussions with kids watching the anime "no you have to tribute summon your Dark Magician"... "No you can't use Monster Reborn in my turn" ... "no your Dark magician does not instant kill Blue Eyes".....
zanji you must be aware the real life rules were not created until late 2002 right near the end of season 1 so us kids could use any rules we wished until then. if the pharaoh used giant soldier to destroy moons we destroyed moons, if kaiba used crush card with saggi to destroy all powerful monsters in your deck we did that, if Pegasus made toons untouchable we made toons untouchable. that's all we had to go by back in the beginning and it sure was fun. I think all the cards from starter deck yugi, kaiba, joey, Pegasus all the way up to magic ruler were in the "anime rules" era where school was like duelist kingdom haha! oh the glory days am I right.
not in Germany tbh... at the start of the show we already had the starter decks Yugi and Kabia ... nobody did read the rulebook though The Anime came to Germany: 10.03.2003 The Starter Decks where available: 29.03.2002 .....i don't belive this large gap though. But i think they were both available at the same time
Zanji1234 I was 12 and started with Metal Raiders, my best friend started with LOB and the original decks. We know your pain, because middle school was overran with anime rules fans.
What about Ordeal of a traveler? FUCK THAT CARD. A friend of mine used to play a Rock deck back when we were kids and he had Neo-spacian grandmole, guardian sphinx, multiple copies of ordeal of a traveler and compulsory evacuation device AND the fucking ekybio drakmord in his deck. He bounced back in the hand everything you got
god i just had war flashbacks to my best friend having THAT SAME FUCKING DECK, that was the one time i remember that i straight up punched a person in the mouth even though i won lol
Back when people used Infinite Cards and Wave Motion Cannon. I remember my friends and I loved Revival Jam in the anime and were all so disappointed with the Revival Jam we got when it came out.
@@anawaz189 I remember when I was in school and my friends and I also thought that destroy = negate. We also didn't know about the banlist either so I remember with every deck I built the first spell and trap cards I always put in were 3 copies each of Monster Reborn, Pot of Greed, MST, Change of Heart, and Dust Tornado. Another one was not finishing tribute summons before effects taking place, i remember sometimes essentially tributing Witch of the Black Forest to summon Summoned Skull from my deck.
lmao i remember doing this when i first got into it, my uncle printed out the rules for me when i was in middle school. And i was tributing trap cards from my hand lmao
i remember back in the early early GX era i got a starter deck and a few booster packs for my birthday, and inside was armed dragon 3, 5 and 7, and god damn did i ruin some days with that deck, it was just filled with a bunch of flying kamakiri #1, some really random ass dragons, and the armed dragons, with some random spells dropped in, i owned a single copy of "level up!", which usually got me to armed dragon 5, which in turn let me go into 7 rather easily, and then equip a dragon shield (only one in the entire deck of that as well), and i was unbeatable, armed dragon Lv7 will always have a place in my heart because of that
My classmate summons "Darkly Big Rabbi" on the first turn: _I summon Exodia. You just lost._ Me: _How could you draw him so fast?_ My classmate: _Sorry, but you are too weak..._
When me and my brother got REALLY into yugioh and we started buying cards, our first time we bought a WHOLE LOT of packs. We got the Legendary Binder or whatever it was with the three god cards on the front and the main protaganists ace monsters inside along with a bunch of older packs in it and for our first duel, we decided to make a deck using all of the cards from these packs without looking at any of them beforehand. Our decks must have been somewhere between 100-200 cards. But we were each half way into our decks and I was in a tight spot. My brother just got rid of my Great Maju Gazaret with 6000ATK I got for tributing my Blue-eyes, which was wrecking his field just a few turns ago. Now I had nothing. I was looking down I believe my Brother's Blue-eyes and Red-Eyes + 1 other big beater monster that I believed was a beast of some sort. I was about to lose the next turn. I needed the greatest top-deck of my pre-puberty life. I draw, ... and got a weird high level card with a long name and amazing attack points. However, after reading it's effect, I thought I was still screwed b/c of his "expensive" summoning conditions. But I searched my graveyard anyway, just hoping that I had what I needed. But the only Dark Attribute I remember playing is Maju Gazaret and my only light so far was blue-e ... "OMG I CAN DO IT!" I top-decked the redicuously rare and powerful Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning. You know, the guy who was banned at tournaments for years for just being him. I mean I didn't know that at the time, but Black Luster easily won me that game afterwards. Didn't help though we read his second effect wrong. We just assumed that as long as he attacked a monster he could attack again immedeately, not just twice! This allowed for some amazingly cheaty board-wipes. Black Luster instantly became my favorite card ever and was the sole reason I only ran Darks and Lights in my deck.
I miss the simpler days when you could just buy a bunch of packs and start playing, now you can only do that if you're fine with half your deck doing LITERALLY FUCKING NOTHING
Tbh, it's probably better now for kids. Back in the day, you would've opened packs and got random filler trash that you tried your best to make work together but being honest, even the best interactions from those cards were useless. Now kids who get their parents to buy packs like the DSoD movie pack, Pendulum Evolution, etc. can actually put together a functional deck.
we used to think in elementary school, that the number of turns you´ve played equals the number of normal summons you could do per turn ... ohh and we used to instantly draw 5 new cards when we had no cards in hand loved our rules :D
K L1 I remember the first tournament we had at school, everyone thought that you got 4000 life points and you could hold as many cards as you wanted, as well as them thinking that your monster gets destroyed if it attacks a defense position monster that has higher def than your attack, really glad I had a rule book for that. As well as a ban list. We each put a card up for grabs, battle city style.
I only remember very little of my Deck('s) starting with the Yugi Starter deck, I first went to "improve" on getting 1500s as vanilla LV4 attack monsters, switching them later to 1600s and later 1800s (still haven't got a lot of 1900s). I used quite a bit of Hiro's shadow scout, Morphing jar #2 (two of them, my brother using lots of highlevel monsters hated them) for the most time i was dancing around spellcasters and fiends.
This was my first real deck. It sucked. Seven Colored Fish 3x Harpyies Brother 3x Summoned Skull Witch of the Black Forest Zombyra Jirai Gumo Man-Eater Bug 3x Big Eyes Princess of Tsurugi Penguin Soldier 2x Relinquished Labyrinthmauern Island Turtle Giant Stone Soldier Parasite Paracide Fissure 3x Dark Hole Monster Reborn Change of Heart Gravekeepers Servant Giant Trunade Card Destruction Tribute to the Doomed Black Illusion Ritual Solemn Wishes 2x Robbin' Goblin Trap Hole 3x Gift of the Mystical Elf 2x Dusttornado 3x Enchanted Javelin 2x Numinous Healer Minor Goblin Official Skull Invitation Just Desserts
My all time favorite card, mainly because in any deck I played as a kid was my boss monster, Relinquished. I convinced everyone I played with/against that the equip effect was a quick effect and I could always get rid of my current equipped monster to equip the card he just summoned during his Main Phase :D
I remember back then I first dominated with a Toon deck, and moved onto using Demise: King of Armageddon. Nobody was ever able to handle my Demise back then.
I drew Chaos Emperor Dragon back in the day.... after 3 weeks or something with the Dragon and tribe infecting virus we started to play with ban list....
I remember back when I was in elementary school and YGO came to Brazil, we would only find cards in english and had to make our parents translate them for us. It was extremely common for my friends to just make up the effects of cards, since no one could read them. There were a bunch of cards that had the effect "If you play this card, you win the game". Because of the language barrier, I ended up just collecting the cards, rather than playing the game.
Thanks for taking me back bro. I feel you were actually right about ALOT of these.. it's so funny how we all did this stuff back then. I particularly remember how no one tribute summoned.. and people summoned in face up defense. And we used to just Mulligan out hands for no reason. Haha!
My card was Five-Headed Dragon. He came in the special edition Dinosaur Structure (the old one)and my Dragon Deck with Dragon's Mirror and got sacky wins all the time. Until others started copying me.
Dude your content is so refreshing. By far the most interesting Yugioh channel and I follow every single one. No homo but even your voice is great to listen. Stay lit
In my country no one knew English in middle school and we just interpreted the effects of the cards just by their pictures. The coolest looking cards were the strongest.
Oh man. This video was a throwback. My first "startegy" deck was based around Summoning "Wicked avatar". I had a Marshmallon from my first tournament, and Jinzo, then the rest of my cards were stuff like Dark Resonator, Scrap Iron Scarecrow, Destiny Hero Defender, Gemini Elf, etc. I built up unbreakable defense until I could draw Wicked Avatar, then got him on the field. It struck terror in everyone in our group because it was the first time we saw a monster that could not be destroyed by battle. I ended up adding Wicked Dreadroot and Wicked Eraser to the deck over time (I got these all from Shonen Jump mags at the bookfair) and when I went to the aforementioned tournament I went in all confident. Got my ass absolutely handed to me. It was the first time I ever knew that a ban list existed, First time seeing archetypes, and while I did beat one kid to win a pack, I definitely was bummed. Anyway, my friend ended up moving away and he gave me his blackwing deck, and I that was my first "real" deck. Played it all the way until 2016.
Medusa Worm. I thought the “When this card is flip summoned” was equivalent to “When this card is flipped face-up” which made it way more powerful for those casual duels.
Exactly. Everyone's deck was unique and unpredictable. That's what made it fun. Before Gravekeepers there were no archetypes so you had no idea what might come up when you sat down to duel. Now Konami is just building decks for everyone. "Here, all these will work together, and with nothing else. Have fun." I miss the days when i didn't know exactly what a player's deck was full of as soon as he plays a card. Call me what you want. I know i had more fun then.
The most OP card for me was Ironscrap scarecrow because i convinced my friends that you could immediatly use it again in the same BP so they couldnt attack at all
Still remember one guy who always cheat shuffled to draw volcanic doomfire, blaze accelerator and triblaze excellerator... Back then it was a stupidly strong start
Perfect example for me, when i was a kid playing this card game. I got home to see a giant tub but didn't know how atk and def stats are used. So in a battle i used the def when attacking a atk position monster. So, yea. Also, in the tub i had the fake god cards with red, yellow and blue boarders.
I remember this one time where my friend predicted I was about to summon my ancient gear golem because I was setting monsters even though he had nothing on his field, then he got really paranoid then used heavy storm (casual match) destroying his face down kunai with chain and his time and stargazer magician so he could get rid of my swords of revealing light because he hated golem so he just really wanted to attack and then next turn he drew pot of greed (again CASUAL) and then in addition to the polymerisation he had in his hand, he drew a performapal silver claw and odd eyes pendulum dragon and he had a beast eyes which is the luckiest thing I’ve ever seen but then I summoned golem and used rush recklessly and just murdered his beast eyes 😂
I once used to have legendary fisherman, legendary ocean, tornado wall and needle wall. Good luck attacking my life points And for some reason his spear was censored so it looked like a toilet brush
Ekibyo Drakmord screwed over so many of my friends. My entire deck was(and still is) based around trolling everyone. 3 Man Eater Bugs Ekibyo Drakmord DD Borderline So on and so forth
Alright, back in highschool just a year or two back, I cheated hard with my friends. We where just getting back into things, and we didnt know jack. Now, I ran a few decks. I ran Dark Worlds, Six Samurai, and Dragunity from the structure decks at the time. Now, Dark Worlds and Six Sams, I could understand. What I didnt know at the time, was Dragunity equips didnt give their stats to the monster they where on. So I thought, that when I equiped the little dragon, it gave the 1200 attack, to the monster it was on. Now combine this with attacking twice per turn and another 900 boost, I dominated with that deck. Then I took my crappy Six Sam deck to a local tourney a friend told me his brother went to. That, started off my competitive career. This, was the Druler Era. An era of rank 7 spam with 3x of each ruler, mermails, spellbooks, and one guy running rock stun. Then me running home build six sams and my extra deck is legit 3x of the structure deck xyz. And I topped. I topped, because I ran 3x rivalry of warlords. And my enemies couldnt really deal with it. I also had The A. Forces for the power booster. So, I would wait and stall a turn or two as they got board, then dropped Rivalry on them, and said pick one. Since Druler at the time would make a Dracosack and a Master of Blades, they would pick the sack. Next I would drop a hand of Six Sams and proceed to OTK with shinai/mizohu loops. Also, GateWay at 3.
FallenGodMark Mark-Kuhns i had an incomplete 6 samurai deck and i was still kicking asses with it, was my fav back then. Then i met spellbook, Naturia and Evilswarm.
My 2 most EPIC kid Yugioh moments. The first was when my friend finally summoned his Slifer and was about to attack for game. I used my Stardust Dragon's effect to negate the attack and destroy my friend instead. The second was when I had to convince my friend that maybe his A4 printed cards that were named after him, level 4 and had 4000 attack points weren't legal in the current formant...
Haha I can't believe how much I relate to you right now. We used to do the exact same thing, if we didnt know what an effect exactly does we just created them, and sometimes we based them off the artwork of the card lmao. I also relate so much with tornado wall, card was such a pain in the ass. I srsly enjoyed this video
That's fun story: One day (5 Months ago I guess) I scrollt thru Netflix and started to watch the original anime. I watched it for like 3 days and bought my self a structure deck, went to school, halfed my deck and played with my friends. That's 5 months ago and since then me and my friends are taking controll over the school with your cards. It all started with 6 episodes of the original anime and me playin with my unsleeved cyberdragon structure deck
My friend had the card Snatch and Steal, and he actually took the kids card
MrSilverMagma 😂😂😂😂
TriHard YOINK my cards now
Lmao
Lol

yeah, that's the shaft that made me stop playing.
Just Anoman heroes have always been relevant. They don't need 30+ fusion monsters to be good. They've almost never not been playable.

Lol imagine you could make your own games with ideas like that
When that episode debut, my dad helped me and my youngest brother make a table with movable maze pieces to make our cards move around. Kuronosa Yeah I mean back in those days it pretty much read you opponent's strongest monster can't attack. And when they did get their second monster you'd flip ordeal of the traveler and watch the opponent cry or go for the throat.
Yes and combine it with the dark door and nobody could attack you, mwahaha!
Good times.
God, imagine if that "punched for how much life you lost" rule existed now. "I attack your 0 defense monster with my Chaos Max--ORAORAORAORAORAORAORA"
Lmfao at the fact you guys would punch each other, and share the pain was directly involved with that
Boosters suck now. Random cards was WAY more fun.

This is a video that goes above and beyond
Were we the only ones who used Sakuretsu armor becaused we thought it negates the attack? Man, everyone of us had like 3 of them in their decks... it was so annoying
It doesn't? D:
It destroys the attacking monster when it declares an attack, so it basicaly acomplishes the same thing as negating attack...sakuretsu armor was widely used in competitive play back around 2005 when i played.
Sakuretsu does negate an attack.
The ghost of Spookwagen it doesn’t “negate” it in the rule book term for negate. It only destroys the monster before the attack can go through

Me: *Summons Harpy Lady and sets card in back row.*

the problem was not "Space Tyhpoon was at one" ... MST was a ULTRA RARE when i started playing... and even getting a SUPER rare was hard xD so you hyped every reprint which was made. When MST FINALLY was a common most kids could finally use a backrow removal.

zanji you must be aware the real life rules were not created until late 2002 right near the end of season 1 so us kids could use any rules we wished until then. if the pharaoh used giant soldier to destroy moons we destroyed moons, if kaiba used crush card with saggi to destroy all powerful monsters in your deck we did that, if Pegasus made toons untouchable we made toons untouchable. that's all we had to go by back in the beginning and it sure was fun. I draw, ... and got a weird high level card with a long name and amazing attack points. However, after reading it's effect, I thought I was still screwed b/c of his "expensive" summoning conditions. But I searched my graveyard anyway, just hoping that I had what I needed. But the only Dark Attribute I remember playing is Maju Gazaret and my only light so far was blue-e ...
"OMG I CAN DO IT!"
I top-decked the redicuously rare and powerful Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning.
I literally pulled a BLS: Envoy of the Beginning in a duelist saga box the other day.
Dude that story brings back memories
Anime BS in a nutshell
Patrician of darkness best cheating card ever
I remember one guy who convinced the others that all effects on monsters are optional, even drawbacks. So yeah.
I had Seal of Orichalcos and when I drew it, it was an insta lose for opponent.
When I was in elementary school, wave motion cannon was so good for me that I won duels instantly with it. 1 card otk.
I miss the simpler days when you could just buy a bunch of packs and start playing, now you can only do that if you're fine with half your deck doing LITERALLY FUCKING NOTHING
Word, mate!
It was middle school my guy... Half your deck did nothing anyways and/or was ridiculously situational.
Tbh, it's probably better now for kids. Back in the day, you would've opened packs and got random filler trash that you tried your best to make work together but being honest, even the best interactions from those cards were useless. Now kids who get their parents to buy packs like the DSoD movie pack, Pendulum Evolution, etc. can actually put together a functional deck.
we used to think in elementary school, that the number of turns you´ve played equals the number of normal summons you could do per turn
... ohh and we used to instantly draw 5 new cards when we had no cards in hand
loved our rules :D
K L1 I remember the first tournament we had at school, everyone thought that you got 4000 life points and you could hold as many cards as you wanted, as well as them thinking that your monster gets destroyed if it attacks a defense position monster that has higher def than your attack, really glad I had a rule book for that. As well as a ban list. We each put a card up for grabs, battle city style.
When I started playing the most broken card was ritual raven.
When I got three Ancient Gear Golems I felt like when I walked through school I was invincible
I wish I had stories like these about playing Yu-Gi-Oh with my friends...
Wait, strike that.
I wish I had friends to play Yu-Gi-Oh with.
Middle School deck profile?
DADDY GAMECIEL i doubt he will remember like i cant lol XD
I remember mine was machine and rock based with Cyber Falcon, Gigs Tech Wolf, Cyber Tech Alligator, the Magnet Warriors, and a fake Mechanical Chaser
I only remember very little of my Deck('s)
starting with the Yugi Starter deck, I first went to "improve" on getting 1500s as vanilla LV4 attack monsters, switching them later to 1600s and later 1800s (still haven't got a lot of 1900s).
I used quite a bit of Hiro's shadow scout, Morphing jar #2 (two of them, my brother using lots of highlevel monsters hated them)
for the most time i was dancing around spellcasters and fiends.
This was my first real deck. It sucked.

Demise was amazing man
Sleepy Meme guy So you’ve chosen death
I’m in middle school in Renton and it’s still a big part of my school kids still play Yu-Gi-Oh every kid still plays
Yu-gi-Oh! Has so much mystique and mysterious back in the day... playing was real dueling...
My first original deck was Joey’s Starter
I drew Chaos Emperor Dragon back in the day.... after 3 weeks or something with the Dragon and tribe infecting virus we started to play with ban list....
Two solar flare dragons on board
You probably remember the three marauding captains too before it got semi-d. Oh man.
Fargoth Ur 5ds world championship 2010 you mean boy
I got like 3k wins vs him and like 100 loses
This was my deck back in high school omfg i even played ookazi
In my middle school Yu-Gi-Oh is still alive. And everyone loves it. Almost everyone at least
Where the F*** are you going to school!? Can I come join!? As a transfer student!? I will take ya all on!
Jack Casey Noone else at my school could find 5 headed dragon in that structure deck so i just face rolled at school lol
Dude your content is so refreshing. By far the most interesting Yugioh channel and I follow every single one. No homo but even your voice is great to listen. Stay lit
+ZZimaJr hey thanks man. Means a lot :)
Team APS does really similiar content when it comes to discussion vids like these. Worth checking out too!
Blinky Blue I agree, theyre decent. If Trell was in every video theyd be tier 1
ZZimaJr i
5 ookazi's😂😂( everybody played with 4000LP, and didn't know about the 3 card limit)
pickle shoe LMAO I don’t know why I laughed so hard at this. 😂😂😂
@@BrokenBaton same
In my country no one knew English in middle school and we just interpreted the effects of the cards just by their pictures.
More nostalgic videos like this!!! This brings me back to my Synchro-Hero mismash deck :)
Destiny hero defender sounds hella good actually, when you know the rule that if the opponent has no cards left in the deck you win
I know i had more fun then.
oh Tornado Wall...
ohhh that explains why I had 12 copies of final flame in my old deck box
The most OP card for me was Ironscrap scarecrow because i convinced my friends that you could immediatly use it again in the same BP so they couldnt attack at all
Still remember one guy who always cheat shuffled to draw volcanic doomfire, blaze accelerator and triblaze excellerator... Back then it was a stupidly strong start
I remember using infinite cards and then drawing as many cards as I wanted.
Perfect example for me, when i was a kid playing this card game. I got home to see a giant tub but didn't know how atk and def stats are used. So in a battle i used the def when attacking a atk position monster. So, yea. Also, in the tub i had the fake god cards with red, yellow and blue boarders.
For those who have trouble pronouncing Ekibyo Drakmord, it’s Eh-key(like the word “key”)-byo(not like “bio”) and then Drakmord (this one was simple)
This generation sucks Nobody in my school plays Yu-Gi-Oh. (except me)
Toni Taipalus true
Same. I have 3 decks, and I just pick two of them and duel myself, I even got a lifepoints counter app to help.
Same cactus
Do you guys at least play pokemon to some extent? Switch or ds?
Toni Taipalus It doesn’t suck kids just don’t care because they think it’s nerdy
When I was in school, the best yugioh kid had a goku card and claimed it was legit (and for some reason we believed him.)
Good luck attacking my life points
And for some reason his spear was censored so it looked like a toilet brush
Ekibyo Drakmord screwed over so many of my friends. My entire deck was(and still is) based around trolling everyone.
3 Man Eater Bugs
Ekibyo Drakmord
DD Borderline
So on and so forth
Same here my cousin had that card and back then it would piss me off it never went away (x
Stardust dragon stops an effect that destroys card(s), not battle...
EXactly
I remember my red eyes black dragon deck back in 4th grade. My father tought me how to play. I guess alot of ppl liked it in the air force lol.
