    the iPhone lens flare gave it away for me, but wow these look so close, I love how the log allows to not have that intense 'iPhone look'

    • @Polymind
      @Polymind ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, for me too, I saw that bokeh but didn't think much of it but that flare that went across the shot gave it away.

    • @sloppysteaks
      @sloppysteaks  ปีที่แล้ว +14

      If you’re looking at lens stuff you’re caring about the wrong thing imo 🤷‍♂️ I could have shot t1.2 on a cinema lens on the fx30. That’s not the point of the comparison.

    • @Polymind
      @Polymind ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True, they are very close in colour. I was just pointing out an observation and thus didn't think much of it.
      The next thing apple should care about is fixing that lens flare.
      Also, really liking your grade, the colours are so nice.

    Could tell straight away due to the much better stabilization on the iPhone. The iPhone footages actually look really good, especially shooting in ProRes, which get rid of that super sharpened look.

    • @benjamesswan
      @benjamesswan 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It does look good but the highlights give it away. The roll off on the Sony is amazing. But I must say for a phone they’re definitely catching up.

  • @saturateddepictions
    @saturateddepictions ปีที่แล้ว +11

    The difference in sharpness quality was the most immediate giveaway for me at the beginning of the video. The iPhone sharpness causes a bit of aliasing on some of the more fine edges. Still, very impressive considering the camera is just one of the many features the iPhone has.

  • @BenjiSelby
    @BenjiSelby ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Yeah, I agree, for what the 15 pro is and the way media is changing you can't go wrong with it paring the footage now that log is available. I love this kit, the FX30 with the 15 Pro is a solid kit for a solo creator and most people outside the pixel peepers would have their mind blown to see what you can do with a phone now. Like you said mixing the footage would pretty much be seamless now. I loved this bro, I've been considering upgrading to this kit recently, and your video has helped me a lot.

  • @thegadgetdude

    A lot closer than I thought, I usually see the biggest give away for phone footage is the shutter/frame rate (which I suppose can be fixed with some ND).
    Biggest iPhone tell is still the flares from the lens when there’s a strong light source in shot.
    Would be happy to use either in a project though great vid.

    should we use ND filter on iphone camera for day light footage, you know to match the rule of shutter speed to fps?

  • @Jhoofnail
    @Jhoofnail ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I could definitely tell due to the lower dynamic range and the depth of field not being quite as natural when you directly compare it like this. Impressive. Just for clarification: Would the phone be oriented vertical on the proposed setup? If so, then despite having more vertical headroom in the phone shot, wouldn't the clips still fall victim to needing to be framed for both horizontal and vertical, resulting in a slightly compromised *framing* for both orientations (again, acknowledging that the vertically shot clips would be better than cropping a 16:9)?

    • @sloppysteaks
      @sloppysteaks  ปีที่แล้ว

    Goddamn it! I wanted to upgrade my old Honor phone to a real camera to start shooting my videos, but now I doubt it... The iPhone footage looks fantastic. What's the point of buying those expensive cameras with lenses if the average consumer won't even realize that the video was shot on an iPhone? For iPhones, we have external lenses and accessories, and it'll cost much less than a "professional" camera setup. After all, the video will be uploaded to social media and then compressed and squeezed like crazy, so people won't even know what the original source was. Sure, if you open the video on a PC or Mac, you can tell the difference because you'll have a bigger screen, but statistically, most people consume content on mobile devices anyway.
    So, what’s the "thing" that makes people crave a "real" camera? I understand those who shoot weddings, but even those are shot on iPhones nowadays.

    • @sloppysteaks
      @sloppysteaks  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Even the worst or cheapest mirrorless or DSLR is better than an iPhone. It’s just physics. I could absolutely destroy the iPhone’s quality with this side by side by just using a budget prime lens.
      I had to match the DOF of the iPhone to make it seem fair.
      iPhone has poor low light and poor optics.
      If you just shoot well lit scenes and don’t need much depth of field it’s great.
      Why use a real camera? Because it’s not your phone. Outside of quality, there’s a multitude of features real cameras have the iPhone doesn’t.

  • @Max-xl9qv
    @Max-xl9qv ปีที่แล้ว

    4:39 - bigger sensors are probably not gonna happen, because the vast majority of "Pro" iphone users woudn't benefit out of those and actually would struggle because of bulkyness and DOF and min_shooting distance issues. There are already issues people are complaining involving the 15Pro main lens and min focusing distance.

    I’ll admit it was a hard test at times. But there was a particular shot that gave it away for me due to the shot looking more weighty which was the dead giveaway

    I feel like so many creators are always using their cameras for socials when you can now just use your phone and I think the new iPhone would be perfect for that.

    I would agree...since like 2018 most cameras produce an excellent image. It is less now which is best but a matter of taste. I have seen some Fuji guys do stuff that blows what the Sony and Blackmagic guys are going out of the water... if you have a camera with a 10 bit image and can grade to taste ...that is pretty much all that matters.

    Patrick hell of a video as usual. I think I was looking for issues and thought I spotted noise in Camera A. I likely was wrong and again just looking for a difference. They both look amazing.

    I couldn't agree more about the people who sit around comparing footage when the amount of factors that go into creating a look make it impossible to identify sensor size, brand etc. Mirrorless is mirrorless is mirrorless... Nonetheless great video bro!

    Honestly could see the difference within the first four seconds of the video. While ProRes LOG helps a lot, there's still way too much digital processing going on for the image to have the natural feel a real camera has. Once the other footage was seen later in the video it was exponentially more obvious because of the depth of field difference between the two. Still, this is definitely a lot more serviceable than phone footage has ever been for certain applications

    Totally agree with you camera is always better it special in lowlight but iPhone is better when it comes to compact or creating unique perspectives. I finally can combine my Sony A1 footage with the IPhone 15 pro max and grade it very identical. Mind blowing. Thanks also for the underexposing tip in another video. Keep rocking bro 😎

    Indeed, the quality is good, as long as we stay at the equivalent of 24mm and 24 frames per second, anything beyond that and the problems begin.

    • @PatrickWithCamera
      @PatrickWithCamera ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sloppysteaks Video with 13mm and 77mm looks much worse than from main 24mm lens because of smaller sensors, and 24 fps just to keep ISO as low as possible, at such small sensor high ISO can kill quality really fast, in most cases 24 fps looks much cleaner/detailed than 60 fps

      @@PatrickWithCamera haven't experienced that. i use all 3 all the time, in fact when we did a full scientific DR test on gerald undone's channel we found that the best dynamic range signal to noise ratio is around 1250 ISO.
