Some good beatbox solo performances for singing analysis are: Show-Go - You’re Gone River - My Way Stitch - Feels Like Nothing Gene Shinozaki - Metamorphosis D-low - Sing a little Harmony There’s also a lot of beatbox group performances that are coming out recently, though it may be easier to see the different techniques through solo performances first.
More Beatboxers please! I bet you'd love Gene Shinozaki's track: Metamorphosis!! It has a huge range of vocals, and some really interesting combinations of textures :))
Thanks so much for checking out Den! A lot of beatboxers recently have been incorporating a lot of singing into their routines and exploring extended techniques. Some stuff uses the false folds similar to certain kinds of throat singing and metal growls, and some sounds are inhaled which can produce different textures and allow him to take a breath without stopping the song. Some extended singing techniques used by beatboxers haven’t been studied and I’m not sure there’s definitive info on what they’re doing (but people have theories). Always love to see more attention brought to beatboxing techniques from the perspective of singing, hopefully with enough interest more research can be done!
@@mltdnmatthe I dunno if I’m doing that much (someone else is responsible for getting this specific video to happen), but I try to help build the hype when a new one comes across it. I think we might be hitting a tipping point where it appears on enough channels that more people start noticing and suggesting and it becomes part of the regular lineup for vocal coach channels. But the TH-cam algorithm sometimes isolates people to stuff they’re familiar with, so we need to help nudge things along whichever ways we can until then.
Gene's 2021 GBB wildcard (stage), Show Go's Jasmin, Stitch's 2021 GBB wildcard, River's (any song) are some performances that have crazys vocal techniques
Welcome to beatbox community! Your analysis is so amazing! Beatboxers can make sounds such as percussion, bass sounds and other uique sounds at their tongue, lip, throat and nose by breathing out and in. For example, the bass which sounds like vocal fly is called inward bass, the inward breathing technique. and also the bass sound by tightening and vibrating his lip is called lip oscillation bass, the outward breathing technique.
@@JustinRed624 it’s like dropicals inward bass it’s kinda in the background not crazy powerful like vocodahs more of an addition rathar than a center piece of the routines/songs
The best way I describe beatbox to people who haven't seen the modern stuff is like Louie Armstrong singing and playing the trumpet *in the same bar of the song*. It's just so crazy to try to fathom.
"Moments I had" from Den is also mind boggling. The amount of sounds from nose, throat, mouth are ridiculous. There are lots of musicality beatboxers like him nowadays. Awesome reaction.
6:40 actually, it's not a vocal fry for as much as it sounds like that, it's a gutural inward vocalization, many in the beatbox world use it, but his use of it is particularly unique, since he can control the pitch of that sound so perfectly, and i believe nobody else does it like him, it's really amazing
6:52 that sound is called inward bass, he’s been doing it the whole time but when he opens his mouth it creates a different texture. Inward bass is a sound that sounds very different depending on who is using it.
First of all, welcome to the beatbox community, and if you to experience more of Den, i recommend "Searching - Spiderhorse (Beatbox Remix) | Into The DEN #1". A lot of singing in this one
6:43 ok so that’s not a fry. It’s called inward bass. Done by inhaling and, it’s being debated if that’s the false fold or the epiglottis running. Personally I think that may be the Epiglottis just for the sheer distance of its vibrations compared to your regular voice (Yes I can do that sound too so I’d know how it feels, a lot of people can too)
I know that i watched this reaction 1 year later but since we are here you could also watch and react to Taras Stanin a brilliant beatboxer from Russia and a piece called Creeping
Yep, the secret to being able to seamlessly shift techniques is all in your ability to know when to apply tension and when to relax. We do the same in throat singing. You need to achieve particular tension and position but all the power in the technique is driven by breath pressure. It's kind of fascinating to hear how he uses the high overtone, maintaining the tongue position to achieve the overtone, which is very particular and still have enough dexterity to perform the rolls and the snares and the kicks and the fact he can do an inward roll while maintaining the position for the overtone just baffles my mind. Something fun I learned to do is use a subharmonic with a gollum voice and get a pretty great approximation of a robot voice. Learning throat singing and overtone singing has opened up so many ridiculous and fun things I would never have otherwise known I could do. Then you apply some of the deeply hilarious things you can do by also experimenting with metal vocals in there and it's just the most fun thing, in my opinion. There are so many beatboxers who are just absurdly unbelievable like Show-Go who is the master of what he calls the double voice and is just absurd. You also have D-Low, Adam Rupp, Hikakin and Daichi (who are hilarious together). th-cam.com/video/Xg5tLUGgJTY/w-d-xo.html
There has been a lot of new sounds discovered in the past ten years in beatboxing. Some of the bass sounds he’s doing are done with his lips or his throat. The lip basses are called lip rolls, and the throat bass he’s doing is called inward bass which is done by breathing in a certain way or just normal throat bass by breathing out. He’s not able to do these sound’s because of his balanced voice as you put but just by practicing these techniques. There’s a lot of beatboxers who can do these sounds. I can do inward bass as well and have a short video on my channel. If you’d like to checkout some other amazing artist, check out Remix, King inertia, D-low, vocodah, zvd, heartzell, tomazcre, show go, napom. I could keep going but these guys are good
Hell yeah more people getting into beatbox, Den is certainly one of the hot sensations right now in the scene. You should check Tag Team or Crew beatboxers like Jairo-Fuego,equilibrium-tincture or Ya Na Ha-Free your life. This format is usually easier to digest IMO, all three pieces is brand new and is really amazing pieces
Beatboxer here! There are various throat techniques used in beatbox, such as the Vibration bass, Throat Bass, Inward bass, Chest Bass, etc... Of course there were other basses that are created with for example the lips or the tongue, but it's interesting to see a Vocal Coach react to these since those are not commonly used in singing (maybe the throat bass is used in a very light way in singers like Kurt Cobain). But I'd say there are Vocal Coaches what the throat/vocal chords are capable of.
I’m loving seeing the vocal coaches of TH-cam dive into the rabbit hole of Beatbox… Some more suggestions for videos off the top of my head would be: Den - Moments I had Den - Searching (a great showcase of acapella and beatbox composition) Hiss - If only YaNaHa - GBB 2023 crew wildcard Jairo - GBB 2023 tag team wildcard Any beatbox cover by NewSchooler There are so many crazy videos and varying styles in the beatbox scene so it would be great to see you explore it more 😄
What’s crazy is that, many things that impress you, are already settled in the community, but some new things Den introduced last year that blew our minds weren’t noticed by you. That shows how many times we don’t actually realize the talent or dexterity certain performer is displaying just because of our ignorance on the issue, be it a beatboxer, a singer, a dancer. There sure must be so many things in singing that go over our heads
You're hearing sound through the nose as well as mouth, a lot of inward sounds, and polyphonic vocals. I really hope you continue this journey. Vocal instructors are the best people to react to beatboxers, other than beatboxers themselves.
So glad to see more vocalists learning about beatboxing! So many beatboxers embracing singing as a part of their art and find new and creative techniques to push the human body to its musical limits. I'd really love to see you react to some of the wildcard (tournament entry) videos for GBB23, the latest big tournament. Good examples for solo beatboxers would be Wing, Mr. Androide, or even DEN's wildcard. There's also Tag team, which is 2 beatboxers collaborating, and I'd suggest Jairo's "fuego" or Equilibrium's "Tincture" for that category. As well, there is a crew category, which is 3+ beatboxers in a group. For Crew I'd suggest checking out YA NA HA or Sakurani's wildcards.

Beatboxing is advancing to such a level that it is pushing the boundaries of the human voice at a breakneck pace, faster than ever thanks to platforms like TH-cam. Den has incredible musicality and style, but even a year removed from the making of this video the entire beatboxing "scene" has evolved. Whether you do it in your free time or in a video, check out Wing's GBB Wildcard for 2023. It's the highest ranked wildcard for one of the biggest beatboxing competitions in the world, and if you were listening to his routine on the radio you'd never know it was a single person.

I think you would really enjoy listening to a beatboxer named Stitch, he uses singing and integrates polyphonic voice into his beatbox in very unique ways. A video that I would specifically recommend would be, 'Stitch - Before I Go'
I remember watching one of your videos a long time ago about polyphonic vocals, then I found your overtone singing video and that blew me away, now I found a beatbox reaction from you, this is a bit nostalgic hahaha the analysis is amazing by the way, I loves.

Do more of den his songs are actually insane you’d love them
Some of the other beatbox routines that incorporate singing you should definitely check out : River' - By Ourselves, Gene - Metamorphosis, Show-Go - Silver, Stitch - Stay With Me, Hiss - Dream Again, Wing - Dancing With a Stranger, Den - Moments i Had, Heartzel - Iron Throat
I think you should react beatboxer " Stich - Feels Like Nothing"👍👍 and yeah welcome to beatbox community
Moments I had is the best from Den ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🙏🙏🙏
more beatbox reactions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we need more reactors like you
I'm in love with your reactions, positive energy, joy, excitement, passion about what your doing... Amazing, feeling that vibe from other half of the world. Please keep doing that great work, millions of thanks...
I love when vocal coaches react to beatboxes 😂
Loved to see your face as you are new to this world. If you want to be amazed, please, go and check MB14. He masters the looping table, which makes him create incredible songs, multiple layers, harmonies, sounds, instrument (with his mouth !), beats, sings low and high, raps, reggea ! just unbelievable. Check out "MB14 La Cup 2018 Showcase". Pretty please !
😂 I thought your eyes were gonna bust outta their sockets. What an awsome performance and WHAT a talent. WOW! Not sure if I have the terminology correct but I know a couple guys who do this but they're old school I think kinda retro but this guy has taken it to a whole new level kinda techno. I loved this big time. I think you were expecting what I was expecting Bethany. You crakme up lady.
I was not familiar with this genre, but I had fun watching and learning and especially watching your reaction to it!
Came here because of den but your commentary is great and insightful! I recommend exploring our rabbit hole that is beatbox as the techniques that are used are not too unfamiliar to singing techniques. You clearly understand the biology of it and it's all the same
This is the first I've seen of DEN. I'm a fan now. If you're interested in seeing a variety of beatboxing styles that are all very high on the talent scale you might be interested in the Swiss Beatbox channel or GBB (Great Beatbox Battle).

@@whyvern6817 you're right, good job
Hey! Loved the reaction ❤ would be great if you reacted to ‘sing a little harmony ‘ by d-low an other great beatboxer!🔥
Ladies and gentlemen,
We have got another one 😂
The crunchy high notes you wonder about are inwards (inwards breath) just like some of his base notes are
LETS GOOO!!!! BEATBOXX!!!!!
I think you would really enjoy listening to a beatboxer named Stitch, he uses singing and integrates polyphonic voice into his beatbox in very unique ways. A video that I would specifically recommend would be, 'Stitch - Before I Go'
"Dlow-single a little harmony" vokal olarak cok guzel bir beatbox umarim dinlersin
I remember watching one of your videos a long time ago about polyphonic vocals, then I found your overtone singing video and that blew me away, now I found a beatbox reaction from you, this is a bit nostalgic hahaha the analysis is amazing by the way, I loves.
here's my Mount Rushmore of musical beatboxers for you to check out:
Gene Shinozaki
Show-GO
Codfish
Den
I really enjoyed your reaction and analysis! Since you seemed to be fascinated by Den's style, I would suggest you react to one of his best masterpieces - Moments we had. Also, you might wanna check out Stitch - Feels like nothing - also great and unique masterpiece with a interesting textures combinations.Thank you for that reaction, and keep it going ☺🙃
I love this reaction best one by far!!!
Hope you will continue this .😄
Yeah Den is a revolutionary beatboxer.
Thanks, it's awesome watching vocal coaches hear new age beatboxing for the first time. Please do more, here are some incredible ones that are song-like with singing:
Dlow - Sing A Little Harmon: th-cam.com/video/e5D-rmMvBJo/w-d-xo.html
Stitch - Feels Like Nothing (interesting polyphonic singing techniques): th-cam.com/video/UilVHqQxe8Q/w-d-xo.html
Group of beatboxers harmonizing - th-cam.com/video/3c5PKIo7jZU/w-d-xo.html
It would also be interesting if you watched a short beatbox tutorial video that explains how some of the sounds are achieved, for example, stitch's polyphonic voice tutorial: th-cam.com/video/CzhoFhBPpXE/w-d-xo.html
If you want to hear his vocal range more, should check out "Moment I had"
The fry sound you described is actually inward which makes it a little more special even, since vocal fry is usually outward
