Thanks for your honest review. I have watched a couple of moto vloggers with this setup now and thanks to you I am sold on them. Keep up the good work. 🏍👍
very kind of you but in the end once you have some decent kit its what you make with it, that's a bigger challenge. Do think the wireless microphones are great for filming outside and perhaps interviews or duel rides.
You are welcome, love the camera and by the way I bought this camera with my own money unlike many vloggers given stuff to review. Most of the recent content on this channel is filmed with the Insta
This is how me and Mrs Rider Guider are experimenting with our audio. The dual set up is working well, apart from mine picking up lots of engine noise on the T7.
Thank you for sharing. The audio on your set up is muffled. I have the same set up. I am getting muffled audio too. I hope Insta360 can fix the audio issue with new firmware update.
@@fredzuccarelli Sorry Fred, not done one yet. We keep experimenting but our helmets have room to still allow both the Hamo microphone and Rode sender to sit inside the chin which we sometimes do. Other times we pass the Hamo microphone lead through the chin curtain and temporary afix the Rode unit to the front outside of the helmet using gorilla tape through the back clip of the road. All of our recent Scotland tour rides have been recorded using this system if you wanted to check audio quality.
I've not to be honest. I have to raise the volume considerably in the edit compared to what comes out of the Gopro and I don't think the audio quality of the insta is quite as good as Gopro. I may well try the setting lower and see if it sounds better. I've filmed all of a recent Scotland tour using this camera mounted on the helmet (in single lens mode) and the Rode Wireless Go2 for the duel feed audio to the Insta. Reasonably happy with the sound compared to wind noise when riding I'm a follower of your channel 👍👍 I should say I now connect my usual chin microphone into the Rode unit which gives better audio when riding with the wind noise.
We have a few sets of the Rhode Go2 but never imagined the mic tablet would fit inside a helmet. Now you've got me intrigued :) My Hero7 is getting a bit old now so maybe time to get myself a 360 and copy your set up, I'm not ashamed to admit lol
Copy away 🤣🤣 First time I've tried the Rode microphones, very impressed. Just need to try two out on the bikes and see how far we get apart before we lose one audio
@@Banditmanuk Can you pair two Rhode mic tablets to one receiver? I've always mounted both receivers on my GoPro Ulanzi case with an 2 into 1 audio cable splitter into the GoPro mic adapter.
@@HepcatHarley Yes we have the Rode wireless Go 2 these latest ones certainly do. You can either record both microphones individually so you can alter each person's levels or use on combined so two microphones both go to one audio track on the base station and that is what you hear on the camera you are recording on. The Rode units themselves also record so if you have a camera problem you don't loose everything recorded... sort of a back up.
Nice one Richard, that works really well. I'd love to see how the mic is set up in the helmet if you have any pics for Facebook or whatever. I def want to see how you get on using 2 mics on 2 bikes too.
I just used a short bit of Gorilla tape through the lapel clip and stuck it to the inner chin of the helmet with the dead cat of the Rode facing down and just up to the cheek inner pad. I'm thinking of using the regular mic (the Hamo you recommend) plugged into the jack point on the Rode unit to allow me better to play with the microphone position. Thought I got more wind noise on this test, but it was just a test. Definitely interesting though as it's easy just to hand one of these units to a non film making riding buddy to get some duel audio. Will get a pic of the position later for you.
Just came across your review. Thanks I currently using the EVO 10C but I’m moving on from that set up. I have a One X2 and Hero 7. I’m going your set up. Any pics of the rode in the helmet?
Hi thanks for watching. Not sure I have any more pictures than currently shown but hopefully will do an update vid soon. All our vids including the latest tour are filmed using this set up. We really like it.
-15 dB with insta 360onex2 but it's a little trial and error. Better to have it too quiet rather than blown out and distorted by wind noise. You can raise the audio back up in the edit.
Wow! Superb setup mate. Only a little wind noise at speed. I might have to change my setup for next season. It's too bloody hot to ride here. We're seeing temperatures in the high 40's.
Nice to hear from you. Yes wasn't completely happy with the wind noise but it was a good first test and I think I can improve the sound. I'm definitely a fan of the 360 cameras for the views they can give. Wow 40c! Us Brits have been moaning because it got up to 28C here last week.
I do really like the camera for what the 360 gives you compared to normal cameras. Filming everything in 360 just takes up too much time in the edit and we've done some filming on the single lens with reasonable success although in some shots it's almost over steady and unrealistic if that makes sense. The tour vid I'm currently editing I've filmed mostly on my Hero 7 with the Insta as B roll but will continue to experiment. Thanks for watching and commenting
Thanks for watching. Since this was made, we've used an additional in helmet microphone plugged into the Rode sender for better audio quality. My wife and I use it to record all our joint vlogs, range is good and the camera useful as a 360 and single lens camera. Rode wireless go2 microphones are useful anyway if you make films and vids. Safe riding and best wishes from England
@@Banditmanuk My husband and I also use the Rode Wireless GOII mic, (that is until he lost his transmitter 😞). I've been using it with the GoPro 10 but have just purchased the Insta x3 and am excited to learn about it. Especially editing! Are you using the Insta studio app to edit?
@@AmenCornerRider I hope you suitably reprimanded your husband for loosing his transmitter! Yes I use the Insta Studio on my PC. I simply remove the memory card from the camera and copy the files over onto the hard drive. If you've filmed in 360 your camera will give you two very similar files for each film. Your insta software will need access to both in order to create the 360 movie. (its the image from both lenses) If you use more advanced software to do your general editing like Adobe Premiere Pro, you can set the 360 view within the edit and not use Insta Studio. Can all be done on a smart phone but less well in my opinion. Best of luck, Richard.
@@Banditmanuk Thank you Richard, very much appreciated. I actually use Final Cut Pro to edit my vids but heard this will not work with Final Cut. Have you heard that?
@AmenCornerRider Sorry, but I only know my software Adobe Premiere Elements which doesn't. Just means if you want your 360 footage in sync with say a helmet cam for a vlog, you've got to set the view on all the raw footage in the Insta app/studio and then import that file into Final Cut. Sort of time consuming. I tend not to record long 360 files for that reason. If it can be done in one edit, you only edit what you actually use. Remember your camera will also record great stabalised single lens vid and we use our X2 alot for that.
Ah so in this set up you have the actual transmitter inside the helmet? I thought you were using a lav mic connected to the transmitter in your pocket, that's how I worked it untill my receiver flew off the fold shoe mount that is. Slightly more wind interference/peaking with your method, I have a deadcat and find open vents or visor can distort. For others watching after loosing the receiver I replaced the Rode with the Synco G2 A2 wireless system at much less cost. They supply all connecting cables plus two lav mics, however the supplied mics gain level is on the hot side and any wind noise at all causes bad peaking even at the low gain setting. I did however find a solution using a Sony Lav mic which actually required gain at level three but comes through clear. I have videos up where my wife is pillion, I'm using the Sony whilst she's using the Synco Lav, you can clearly hear her mic peaking as wind increases at higher speeds. For those on a budget its a cheaper solution.
@@Banditmanuk Thanks for the link, I've already watched that video and commented, somehow I'm playing catch up with this one. It's a great set up, I've been using it myself for a few months now. The only issue I'm now having is I need a touring screen or a screen extender on the ZZR. I recently did a run in up to the 600 mile service review including beginning to unleash the beast. The amount of turbulent air round my helmet and shoulders at speed is overwhelming the audio, which is such a shame as the helmet mics are doing a good job of capturing the exhaust note at slightly more subdued mph.
@@michaellilley6725 Screens over the years have caused so much noise and turbulence I've found I'm happier with no screen. Still manage distance and tours. As a tall person I've never found anything totally suitable.
@@Banditmanuk Sadly screenlessness isn't a very attractive option on either the FZ1-S Custom or the ZZR 1400. I had the same issue with the FZ1-S and bought a touring screen which helped raise the wind blast but not enough to go over my head. After only a couple of days that screen developed like a stress cracking on the most curved part, a few days later they appeared like centipedes in other areas. It was quite hot at the time and the bike was under a cover, perhaps heat stress? I've never got in touch with the supplier but will do as I'll have to change it again. Zero gravity do a touring screen which another vlogger praises, the extensions seem to work for others but do detract from the looks somewhat, also some of them are twice the price of a full screen 🤔 Thanks again for your helpfulness 👍

Then there's the Alonzi mount at about £20.00 and a couple of cheap Hamo Voip microphones that mount in the helmet chin at about £7.00 each.
