At 70 years, I’m a woman who lives along, with no children to call or help me and no car, I do everything on the bus. With my body starting to show my age (arthritis, loneliness, being overwhelmed with anxiety) I have a lot of problems trying to get and keep my life together. I don’t eat junk food and and try and get out for walks on good days. Talking to my Doctor, he told me I qualify for a caregiver, and seriously thinking about it!!! I’ve learned there’s a lot of people in my situation of loneliness and this causes depression.
I can easily say that no one including the medical school I have attended has not been able to explain stress like Dr.Ekberg does here. Simply the greatest videos I have ever watched !

I have been diagnosed as stress sensitive . I had to reduce my working hours from 8 hours to 4 hours after I burnt myself out twice for some years ago. Thank you Doc for telling such important facts about stress a silent killer in todays society. 🙏

I quit my last job because of the stress and I'm much happier and healthier because of the switch. When I reach 62, I'm retiring and going for even less stress.

@@Sonshine1038 It’s been my experience that if let your doctor and his/her team know, they will work with you. Mine takes vitals (pulse, BP, etc) at the end of the appointment, after the doctor and I are done. She turns the lights out (there are windows) and invites me to lie down or relax in a chair on her way out. After about 5 minutes, her nurse comes in and does the vitals and I get true readings every time. The stressful part is the anticipation and by doing it at the end, that stress has been eliminated. If there were to be an issue at that point, the nurse would ask me to wait for a few minutes then retake and either send me on my way or let the doctor know and go from there. And, of course, if I came in with acute symptoms of an infection, etc, they would take my vitals at the beginning and again at the end.
@@Sonshine1038 Sounds like he had a good one. I think a lot of people actually have this issue and don’t realize it. Add to it that they’ve been rushing to get things done at work before they leave, then rush off to their appointment, driving in traffic, and it’s small wonder their pressure is high. I did have a doctor at one point who pooh-poohed me and told me I was being ridiculous. She was a difficult person to work with and by the time I arrived for an appointment, I was so stressed that my BP was pretty high. She insisted on meds and I foolishly went along - until I didn’t. I finally got smart and made an appointment elsewhere and it was wonderful. I was listened to and treated with respect and, of course, it turned out I didn’t need the meds at all. NEVER put up with a doctor who adopts a condescending “just who’s the doctor here” attitude. Obviously, you’re paying for their education and expertise, but if they won’t even listen to your description of how things feel, and respect your knowing when you don’t “feel right”etc, then it’s time to move on. It should be a conversation, not a monologue.
Sir, you are such a great educator. In such that once you know, the signs are no longer subtle but screaming stress symptoms once you are mindful about them. And then there is always your moment of giving hope and ways to improve upon the condition you are discussing. My issues is getting things done which creates racing thoughts, here comes high bp then the heart palpitations start. My passion is fishing but in my mind it’s a reward for getting things done. I’ve had times I went fishing and felt guilty because something at home needed to get done so I go home. I’m almost caught up and I’m looking forward to it. Cutting back on coffee seems to help also. Thanks Doc for another informative and timely show.
Same bro but I often don't get those things done so it's rinse wash and repeat for me. I will likely die of stress induced heart failure by 60. I'm obviously trying to prevent that. Heart issues run in my family
Its a very long and slow process once the stress is embedded in our system. Especially slowing down the reactivity. I would even stress out about the ‘noticing’. But continue to notice how you feel, do the breath work and a bit of meditation every day, a brisk but gentle walk of about 20 minutes a day, …. and slowly your body starts to change. Also having these videos who explain what is actually happening help you understand and calm down anxiety a bit

This is a very good video to listen I know because been a truck driver for over 38 years I noticed that my high blood pressure was because the stress of been stocked in traffic and my doctor just gave me medication, but I decided to take early retirement at 62 and 3 month later I no longer taking my heart blood medication and I check it every days at home the correct way to do it with the right equipment and now is between 127 over 84 around that every morning before eat, I fast for 19 hours every days and only eat nutritious foods and walk about 25 miles a week and sleep good no more alarm clock for me. thanks doctor for all your help.
Great video. I'm going thru a lot of stress on daily basis and I can confirm everything that was exposed, as I see it in other work colleagues as well. As I cannot leave my job I don't know how to deal with this situation in an effective way.
It is brutal these days. Step one is to decide who are all the idiots (toxic people) in your life and get them out of your life. If they are not making your life better odds are they are making it worse. The fact that they are so innocent, they don't mean it, they are so smart "it couldn't be that they are toxic" don't count. What counts is asking yourself "do they support me and want to see me win."

I noticed that you use alot of analogies... here is one that is simplistic but I think perfectly fits this subject ... You (your brain) are the captain of your own ship (your whole body). You can expand on it from there in lots of descriptive ways.
One thing I’ve noticed about myself is since I’ve started eating better (20 grams of carbs or less a day. Plus they carbs I do consume come from vegetables) I’m able to handle stress much better. I’ve learned how not to dwell on it. I shift my mind to how great I feel & how good I look since I’ve lost so much weight (& still loosing) 9 times out of 10 the person (& undoubtedly it’s always at work) who is the stressor is overweight. I just remind myself of how I was. When your overweight you’re obviously not eating a proper human diet. So I think back to how I was; my mind wasn’t right when eating SAD. I attribute the bad behavior to the persons diet. I know before changing my life I was probably just a joy to be around (all the sarcasm you can think of).

As usual prime video. I do really share your opinion on the present healthcare system. They only do symptom treatment . In the case of diabetes 2 they even treat the wrong symptom- the glucose and not the hyperinsulinemia . I have major chronical stress and find that meditation around gratitude helps. I have two thumbs . Without them my life would be worse - so I am grateful for my thumbs. When I keep this up I don't spend time on all the lingering problems. Thank you , doc.

Great video. Most of my health problems came after working a stressful job in door to door sales.
I love being stuck in traffic. I turn on the AC and put on my favorite music and just lay back and relax!

One thing I’ve noticed about myself is since I’ve started eating better (20 grams of carbs or less a day. Plus they carbs I do consume come from vegetables) I’m able to handle stress much better. I’ve learned how not to dwell on it. I shift my mind to how great I feel & how good I look since I’ve lost so much weight (& still loosing) 9 times out of 10 the person (& undoubtedly it’s always at work) who is the stressor is overweight. I just remind myself of how I was. When your overweight you’re obviously not eating a proper human diet. So I think back to how I was; my mind wasn’t right when eating SAD. I attribute the bad behavior to the persons diet. I know before changing my life I was probably just a joy to be around (all the sarcasm you can think of).

I thought I was stressed out but it turns out I was on the standard American diet plus dr. Pepper, went super low carb and felt better within 10 days. Food is very important
So much appreciate the info you share! To my thinking, this one is a shining example of something absolutely vital for all of us. Since it's painfully clear how many of us are ill equipped to handle stress at even a low level. Not to mention, for those of us who are parents, to demonstrate to our kids, which may be literally life saving for us as well as them,at some point in their lives. Stress is real & being informed as to how it works ect is to my thinking, given the importance it deserves as being so necessary of what our lives are about; in a constant state of change, ever expanding our thinking & awareness, always working towards being our better selves.Thank you again, Dr. Sten!

I do really share your opinion on the present healthcare system. They only do symptom treatment . In the case of diabetes 2 they even treat the wrong symptom- the glucose and not the hyperinsulinemia .
I have major chronical stress and find that meditation around gratitude helps. I have two thumbs . Without them my life would be worse - so I am grateful for my thumbs. When I keep this up I don't spend time on all the lingering problems.
