    I had customized a replica (toy) lightsaber using a lot of these same methods. However, when it came to things like screws, I opted to cut off the plastic "screw" then drill in guide holes, and add actual screw heads. Took a while to track down screws that would fit each part, but once they were in, I clipped off a majority of the screw to prevent interference with the rest of the build, then superglued them in from the back. I love adding little things like that to give a piece more a sense of real-ness. 😃

    Your upgrade looks and WORKS so much better than the vanilla Pip-Boy 3000 replica. I spent almost $400 on the deluxe "functional" version when it released (If my memory serves me correctly) and I only turned it on twice for a few minutes each time, and put it back in the case to store until I had shelf space for it. A year later, I pulled it out to use it as the clock in my man cave.......and it locked up on the boot-up screen. It hasn't worked since.
    After googling the issue, I found entire threads of this happening to (seemingly) nearly everyone who bought one. And even when they returned them to the company for a free repair, they still wouldn't work. I never could find a fix for it.
    So now, I have a $400 paper weight on my shelf. Really stupid when you think that the only thing it had to run was a fake boot-up screen, a hand full of what's basically screensavers for each menu, a radio, a clock and a rudimentary sound card........................................It's a glorified bedside clock that can't function. What a waste of my money. I would have been better off getting the basic one you have and buying a cheep throwaway phone to download the app on for the screen. At least then it would still be working. I wish I could send it to you for repair...

    Oh and that charging solution brilliant those cables are great when they work when you actually use them on your phone though not so much you only have to move the cable or the phone or anything near it and it'll instantly break magnetic connection because the magnets are so damn weak and they get dirt and dust in them a brilliant design but man it has its issues but the way you have it nothing can move it so brilliant oh and one last thing on paint the adapter man open the fault the white thing at the top in the original art it's actually more of a vanilla so I got a off white or to me it makes a racing white which is like a cream and I will be painting over the bright white for the in game warm vanilla white.

    Great Video.
    Just as a little idea; how about using the repaired button on top as an extended mechanism to hit the lock botton of the phone? I was thinking about modifying my Pip-Boy aswell but I don't want to break the hinge mechanism. Therefore, my idea was to have something like the end of a paperclip pushing through a small hole underneath the hinge onto the lock button. This could then be fixated with a screw/spring and then elongated below said button. This is just a thought of mine, I have no clue if this would practically work.

    • @YourGeekFix
      @YourGeekFix  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With where the lock button is on the phone, I had to use that hinge. Also had no plan to reopen the pipboy afterwards. It is easy to get phones that are very cheap, $20 in this case, that can make that work really well.

    Great job usual OneNote however you forgot a third option with the letters you could final print them that kind of sloppy you can use the stencil again kind of sloppy because you'll lose half the letter in the A and the D what the third option is to print a water slide decal unclear water slide paper then you print it the right size you put it where you need to be and boom it's there like any other decal and it looks good and won't go anywhere. Great build with the lighting and all your little enhancements the inside was a little sloppy but you're not gonna see it so I guess it doesn't really matter I always go at the internals like it's gonna be sold so it's gotta be neat but that's just me.
