I actually own complete Famicom and European versions of this. I do enjoy the game and can beat it without too much trouble, but will admit it's not very good. The game's music was composed by the famous Mark Cooksey. He shared with me a bit of info about this game's development. I will say I think this version is much better than the Game Boy version, but that may be debatable to some. Thanks for posting!
This game is the most underrated MASTERPIECE ever maded,it's considered hard because it's so unique in so many ways that people just can't get it how to play it and how to enjoy it.
Sony went from this game to the Playstation in about 3 years, and MotiveTime went from this to Virtuoso in the same amount of time. The graphics alone make this better than the RoboCop 2 game, at least 😝
Forget Super Mario Bros. or Mega Man... now this is a true platforming classic! I managed to get through most of it at one point - the Western version, which is incredibly sluggish - but I never stuck through with it till the end. No big loss, as it might be one of my most hated games on the system. :P
Honestly, I think this could've worked like the arcade, but the graphics more so resemble one of those old Newgrounds sprite animations in order to run on the hardware. Unfortunately, they made a generic platformer instead.
I mean clearly the game's reputation preceeds itself. I mean I guess they were trying to recreate the path from the arcade original but so much else of it is just a disaster.
I don't hate this one. Don't get me wrong, it is poorly designed and awful, but it does bring that amazing euro-dev presentation with it. European games have one thing going for them, and that's flashiness. In this game, the characters are large and detailed with excellent animation. If you can manage to get through this game without tearing your skin off in frustration you are treated to some very pretty visuals. Of course, this is one I want in my collect for its weird two-color cartridge and general strangeness... but I probably could never get it.
all I can comment on is that I made it past the first screen in the NES version and that's about it
also good to point out that the Famicom version actually runs faster compared to the NES release, probably due to the mapper used

The Game Boy version at least has the excuse of being a totally different game that got Dragon's Lair slapped onto it.

@7:58 well, you know, there is always
the SNES one ;)
IIRC, because it’s a poorly coded Euro game, it’s actually running fast. The PAL version plays at the intended speed.
I think the Japanese version corrects a bit of that, but it's still not a reason to play it.

I knew you would have a distaste for that game. What a kusoge.
