What I noticed living in Korea is that Korean women tend to date westerners when they date interracially, white/black guys from Europe/America and Korean men usually date other Asian people like south east asians and Japanese girls. Though I would say the latter is intercultural dating, not interracial
I am Asian who grew up in the USA and what I see here is white men marrying other Asian women, but not many Asian men marrying other races except Asian women.

As an asian guy, the problem is asian women. My asian mom doesn't allow me to date outside my race, but she allow my sisters to date outside. When I date a black girl or a white girl, she would cursed them and called them ugly to intentionally destroy my relationship. A lot of asian mother are tiger mom, they controlled their sons. You could say that asian women are the villain and trying to prevent us asian men from dating outside, while it's okay if asian women want to date outside. Well, I don't listen to my mom, so I usually just do what I like.
First of all, I really like the idea of interracial marriage. I love to get to know new cultures and stuff and as for the children comming out of interracial marriage, being able to speak more than one language as your mother tongue is such an awesome skill. I noticed that when speaking about interracial marriages, a lot of Koreans are only open to either Japanese or Europeans. It's clear the defining standard of someone "Western" is due to the underlying obsession of White features and a proximity to Whiteness if the significant other is White. I will accept that people have a preference but it is unfortunate that these preferences are often constructed through the cultural lens/perception that Black features (dark skin, etc.) are considered unfavorable. As a Jamaican woman in an interracial relationship myself, it is a blessing I am married to a man of Greek background whose family at large love and embrace my features. I can't imagine how difficult it is for some Black men and women in Korea to be accepted by their in-laws, especially so far away from home. I hope S. Korea continues to grow more accepting as Black culture is so widely adored, yet Black people are not always embraced.
Historically, light skin was seen as being upper class in places like Korea and other parts of Asia in general, because darker skin signified that the person worked outdoors, which would have made them a lower class citizen. So you framing the issue as a "whiteness" issue isn't really correct. It's a lightness of skin issue because of what that historically meant. Europeans just happen to have light skin, that just happens to align with Korean preferences. That's all.
Completely agree with this. Certainly not to the extent, but we also see in western culture a lack of unfavorable interracial marriage with Asian or Middle Eastern men. When a women in the west talks about having an interracial relationship it’s usually in favor of either white or black men. And the same also goes for black women, who are reported to be the least favorable dating preference by men in the west. Part of it is, based on the culture, we’ll often see people with similar race dating preferences because of what we’re taught to believe is attractive through media and peers.
@@chrishudson9525 I was referring to the idea of Whiteness also correlating to the infatuation that a lot of Koreans have with White foreigners. There were a few White men that came on these videos and straight up said that some Korean women have made them feel uncomfortable because of how they have been fetishized and lusted over by them. I've also seen a lot of Korean women openly talk about wanting HAPA babies and fetishizing features such as big eyes, taller noses and lighter hair. I knew about the historical aspect of this, but I definitely think the European preference goes beyond that.
@morgan yu It's so funny how people are so quick to defend and justify anti-Blackness in 2022 by just saying anything. Literally what is a "Black feature?" Not sure if you've ever heard of the Eve gene or Mitochondrial Eve but the Black race is scientifically the most genetically diverse race. Every single feature you can think of came from Mitochondrial Eve whether it is monolids, double lids, white skin, black skin or anything in-between, brown, green, grey and blue eyes. So what you said was inherently dumb. I've seen Black people with thin lips, small eyes, straight noses and naturally straight hair so not sure what you were referring to as "Black features." Love who you want to love but if you are developing preferences based on skin color and the features of a particular race, that makes you a racist since you favor the characteristics of one race over others. So you inherently believe in racial superiorities and inferiorities. And if anyone has this perception, that person pretty much justifies it is okay to discriminate and stereotype others (which I know Korea has a huge issue with) because of their "unfavorable features". Not only is it really weird loving someone because their skin is pale but it's also weird fetishizing mixed children as a result, who at often times, end up getting passed down the predominant Asian features over the Caucasian features anyway.
I like how honest some of them got .Not just giving answers that make Koreans look good to the outside world but the reality of what it's like living there.
I wrote my master's thesis on Korean American interracial marriage in Los Angeles County and found that first-generation Korean AMERICANS in L.A. Co. marry other Koreans (inmarry) at the highest rate compared to Japanese Americans and Chinese Americans -- if memory serves, their inmarriage rate was over 90%. At around the same time I wrote my thesis, KoreAm Journal also interviewed Korean Americans about their attitudes toward interracial and interethnic marriage and some of the reasons provided to KoreAm was to ensure that their monolingual, Korean-speaking parents could communicate and have a relationship with their spouse, and based on some conversations that I have had with Korean Americans, their decision to inmarry also related to preservation of Korean culture and traditions, very likely in response to what Japan did to Korea/Koreans after and during their annexation and occupation of Korea from 1910 to 1945. BUT, as we noted in our study, with increased acculturation/assimilation (2nd, 3rd, etc. generations) Korean Americans' outmarriage/interracial/interethnic marriage rates increased significantly, as did outmarriage among Korean American in their 2nd and 3rd marriages. And, outmarriage among Korean Americans was higher among Korean American women compared to men, and while eyeballing the data, the non-Korean spouses of Korean women had last names that suggested a Jewish background, and these couples' level of education were commonly at the graduate/professional school level.

But i think i would blend in better w the italians, because like you said since you dont look korean they wont really consider you one of them, no matter how good you speak korean or act like them, and thats why marrying a person of another race isnt really a good idea or ideal, since you will have conflict with your inlaws and some culture shocks which can be frustrating, since one part will have to give up its culture, amd its not a switching game unlike you where you travel to x country with the idea that you will become one of them for a certain time, and then when you get bored or something, go somewhere else, and in this life you only have one home, and you can travel to many places but at the en of the day only one feels right, like yourself.
This is really encouraging to see as I've heard 'horror' stories about foreigners ( especially those from non-western/non- European or caucasian backgrounds) going through really bad xenophobic experiences there. I can't judge or comment as I've never been to Korea, but it appears that the younger generations are more open to interracial relationships and marriages. There's always hope. 😎👍
Yo, I'm really starting to feel like I grew up in the wrong era man. It so many things that I thought never would be a thing and after watching videos like this, I'm blown away. More and more ppl are open to certain things. Growing up I was taught that nobody likes US and see US in a light that's not interesting, but it seems like the dynamics of culture is changing. 9:34 is not necessary to change your last name, if you want you can do that. I actually wanted to add my husband name to mine. But I couldn’t. We are both originally from a Latin American Country ( I’m from Dominican Republic and his from Peru) and in our country we have our fathers and mothers last name. So when we got married on our marriage license we put down both of our last name although we only use one in the USA( because we have to put down our name as it is on our birth certificate) at the social security office I had no problem I added my husband last name to mine ( just one of his last name) but when I went to motor vehicle I was told that I couldn’t ,I have to take both of my husband last name if I wanted to have his last name. It been 11 years and this still bugs me 🤬 I wish they change that rule.
I come from a country that is very diverse and it’s so nice to hear that they would like to marry someone from a different culture. But it should not matter about their RACE I believe that you LOVE WHO YOU LOVE. And as long as two people find each other and are happy with each other from what ever race. Because Asia is a diverse continent with many races/ethnicities, such as Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Indian, Bangladeshi, Thai, Vietnamese, Persian, Uzbek, etc. The only genetic categorization that would put Koreans and Japanese under the same group is the term "Mongoloid" which is more accurate if you want to categorize the two under one genetic lineage category.

Only in UK, Asian refers to South Asian or people of the Indian sub continent. This may be changing as Indians are now the largest immigrant group of all those countries so there may be demand to reclassify the word for political correctness. I've seen a some Westerners refer to Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis as "East Asians", probably mixed up with "East Indians" or out of ignorance towards the Indigenous in the Americas. But, looking at the larger geographic picture much of Asia's populations such as North Asians like the Yakuts, much of Central Asians and parts of SE Asian are often seen as East Asian where those of the Indian sub continent are Indian related.

@@allio3459Yeah, this is true. I’m not Asian, but I’m half Mexican and half Bulgarian. Both Hispanic and European parents have similar mindsets to Asian parents (and I’m obviously not speaking for all, but just for mine, lol). My mom, who’s Bulgarian, has said that she won’t be supportive of me dating outside of the Bulgarian ethnicity. My dad, who’s Mexican, has told me he’s FINE with me not dating a Mexican, but they still “have to be” Hispanic. Kinda ironic because they dated outside their own ethnicities, but me and my siblings aren’t allowed to, LOL. A lot of strict parents are like this, and it’s sad because it stems from tons of xenophobia and racism.

while this is interesting the underlying facts is that Korea isn't nor will it become more open to interracial marriages unless the foreigner is willing to live in Korea which let me tell you is extremely difficult. Companies won't hire you (its very difficult anyway) and unless you speak Korean fluently there is little change for it working out. Sure you can go over to Korea and stay for a few months, have fun with a few girls/guys etc but ultimately Koreans want to be with Koreans. I also find it interesting Korean men actually seem very open to explore different races but Korean women only seem to want European/american men based on stereotypes that just are not true. Average height for north Europe is tall (181cm) but for south Europe average height is 178cm which is about 3 cm taller than Korean, American is even smaller with average of 176cm. I just don't understand why Korean women believe in these unrealistic stereotypes lol. On a final point I find it very distasteful when the Korean women shun asian men and make harsh statements like "they are small" or "western men are sexy" implying that asian men are not. its a very unattractive trait to have as a person

@@bryanr1727 No, it doesn't happen all the time. That only works for specific jobs like IT programmers or physically-demanding blue collar jobs. You cannot work in the US as a doctor or a lawyer if you cannot speak English. Even in Korea, foreigners can also get a job very easily without knowing the language if they are willing to work at factories or laborious spots. In addition, people usually tend to know English at least a little bit, which makes it much more accessible than languages like Korean.
@@kingkuf7371 No, you are wrong. That's because in a lot of companies in Europe, people can communicate in English. A foreigner that knows neither English nor German cannot get a job in Germany unless it is a physically-demanding blue-collar job. Same for other European countries. Studying is an exception. You can also come to Korea without knowing Korean if you are coming just to study. Getting hired and studying is a totally different thing and they usually require different visas.

Would be interesting to see what they think about like African /African like what comes to there minds you could show the pictures of places in Africa USA and Europe and have them guess which is African can open up a dialog on people perception of Africans .You could also ask stuff like are all blacks people from Africa and America .Think this type of conversation would be very interesting to see peoples idea having been to Korea many people would assume I’m either American or just African some would be surprised when me and my black friends would say we was from like the UK or France and Italy the reactions was cute it made for good dialog .

I'm in a interracial marriage (I'm Asian, my husband, Irish). We have two beautiful daughters. There were definite adjustments regarding our cultural differences. It can be quite challenging. To our advantage, we were young and more open-minded and subsequently, learned to truly respect and accept each other's culture.
These videos sometimes slightly make me uncomfortable. Not always, but a lot of time the fetishisation of white foreigners is extremely common in Korea. My friend, who’s German, visited Korea a few months back and told me that she had a bunch of Korean men coming up to her saying “I wanna date a white girl” or pestering her about doing one-night-stands, and they would tell it to her face that she’s “easy” because she’s “Russian” which she’s obviously not, but Korean men assume all foreign women are Russian, and it’s really sad. Also had plenty calling her the ‘white horse’ which is so misogynistic. I’m not generalising, as that’s not fair at all. Im also very aware that it happens the other way round (white women fetishising Korean men) but I just wanted to say that because I hear a lot of stories like this from foreign women who have visited Korea. Not just white women but black women also have a stereotype there that they’re “good in bed”, and a lot of Korean men use that to their advantage. Besides all of that, I’m also very interested in branching out and dating someone outside of my own race/ethnicity. I’m a sucker for different cultures and traditions. Nothing wrong with that, as long as you’re not fetishising.

As a foreigner who studies in south korea from 2021, I rarely see korean women dating foreigners, on some case I did see some women dating caucasian On the other hand, korean men here can just date any foreign women regarding the nationality or race
[Why we shouldn't trust these videos]. I've been following TH-camrs who do these interviews. TH-camrs know what they want to talk about. And then after the interview, they edit it to make sure it's what they intended or They only include people who say the same or similar things. Probably dozens of cases against international marriage to select those 7~8 cases. interviews to select those 7 or 8 cases.

Realistically there needs to be better & upgraded immigration policies in most countries. Even if you’re on a spouse visa it feels like you’re just a plus one carry on. In Japan the amount of time you can work is limited & it’s just a minefield for mistreatment. I don’t want to depend on another person for my residency bc what if it goes wrong & I still want to live there? In Korea you can easily rent & open a business if you have a Korean spouse but what if that doesn’t work out?

Tog the guy that speaks English and is confident enough to use it in the interview-you studied well! To the girls who don't want to change their last name if they marry a westerner, you can hyphenate your name. So it would be your last name, then a hyphen, then your husband's last name. I enjoy this man's videos.
you have to ask them to clearify what they mean whenever koreans or japanese use the word ''westerner'' because from what ive seen in these type of interviews, it is clear that the refer to whites, they clearly don't know the west is very mixed and that it makes white to not be the standard for westerner. so when you ask them that it can be a great chance to let them know and be a little more educated. i also realize that they would not say ''white'' so easily because its not from their culture, korea being a mainly korean society and not a lot of other races there, the idea of race is not prominent, so i get why koreans would rather say ''westerner'' when referring to white people instead of ''white''.
Western is European mate. The term originated from the West Roman Empire which occupied large parts of Western Europe. Later on the term was used to describe the NATO countries that bordered the Eastern Part of the Cold War - all being European. Today it has adopted more European countries such as Sweden and Finland - and sometimes countries from the former Eastern Bloc and South America. But every country is majority European. So Western Culture is European Culture. London is no longer a Western City because it has lost the culture that makes it Western. I like how Europeans can't keep any normal title. Are we gonna start calling non-whites Colonisers? Or is that only to negatively describe White People?

As an asian guy, the problem is asian women. My asian mom doesn't allow me to date outside my race, but she allow my sisters to date outside. When I date a black girl or a white girl, she would cursed them and called them ugly to intentionally destroy my relationship. A lot of asian mother are tiger mom, they controlled their sons. You could say that asian women are the villain and trying to prevent us asian men from dating outside, while it's okay if asian women want to date outside. I noticed that when speaking about interracial marriages, a lot of Koreans are only open to either Japanese or Europeans. It's clear the defining standard of someone "Western" is due to the underlying obsession of White features and a proximity to Whiteness if the significant other is White. I will accept that people have a preference but it is unfortunate that these preferences are often constructed through the cultural lens/perception that Black features (dark skin, etc.) are considered unfavorable. As a Jamaican woman in an interracial relationship myself, it is a blessing I am married to a man of Greek background whose family at large love and embrace my features. I can't imagine how difficult it is for some Black men and women in Korea to be accepted by their in-laws, especially so far away from home. I hope S. Korea continues to grow more accepting as Black culture is so widely adored, yet Black people are not always embraced.
Historically, light skin was seen as being upper class in places like Korea and other parts of Asia in general, because darker skin signified that the person worked outdoors, which would have made them a lower class citizen. So you framing the issue as a "whiteness" issue isn't really correct. It's a lightness of skin issue because of what that historically meant. Europeans just happen to have light skin, that just happens to align with Korean preferences. That's all.
Completely agree with this. Certainly not to the extent, but we also see in western culture a lack of unfavorable interracial marriage with Asian or Middle Eastern men. When a women in the west talks about having an interracial relationship it’s usually in favor of either white or black men. And the same also goes for black women, who are reported to be the least favorable dating preference by men in the west. Part of it is, based on the culture, we’ll often see people with similar race dating preferences because of what we’re taught to believe is attractive through media and peers.
@@chrishudson9525 I was referring to the idea of Whiteness also correlating to the infatuation that a lot of Koreans have with White foreigners. There were a few White men that came on these videos and straight up said that some Korean women have made them feel uncomfortable because of how they have been fetishized and lusted over by them. I've also seen a lot of Korean women openly talk about wanting HAPA babies and fetishizing features such as big eyes, taller noses and lighter hair. I knew about the historical aspect of this, but I definitely think the European preference goes beyond that.

@morgan yu It's so funny how people are so quick to defend and justify anti-Blackness in 2022 by just saying anything. Literally what is a "Black feature?" Not sure if you've ever heard of the Eve gene or Mitochondrial Eve but the Black race is scientifically the most genetically diverse race. Every single feature you can think of came from Mitochondrial Eve whether it is monolids, double lids, white skin, black skin or anything in-between, brown, green, grey and blue eyes. So what you said was inherently dumb. I've seen Black people with thin lips, small eyes, straight noses and naturally straight hair so not sure what you were referring to as "Black features." Love who you want to love but if you are developing preferences based on skin color and the features of a particular race, that makes you a racist since you favor the characteristics of one race over others. So you inherently believe in racial superiorities and inferiorities. And if anyone has this perception, that person pretty much justifies it is okay to discriminate and stereotype others (which I know Korea has a huge issue with) because of their "unfavorable features". Not only is it really weird loving someone because their skin is pale but it's also weird fetishizing mixed children as a result, who at often times, end up getting passed down the predominant Asian features over the Caucasian features anyway.
I like how honest some of them got .Not just giving answers that make Koreans look good to the outside world but the reality of what it's like living there.
I wrote my master's thesis on Korean American interracial marriage in Los Angeles County and found that first-generation Korean AMERICANS in L.A. Co. marry other Koreans (inmarry) at the highest rate compared to Japanese Americans and Chinese Americans -- if memory serves, their inmarriage rate was over 90%. At around the same time I wrote my thesis, KoreAm Journal also interviewed Korean Americans about their attitudes toward interracial and interethnic marriage and some of the reasons provided to KoreAm was to ensure that their monolingual, Korean-speaking parents could communicate and have a relationship with their spouse, and based on some conversations that I have had with Korean Americans, their decision to inmarry also related to preservation of Korean culture and traditions, very likely in response to what Japan did to Korea/Koreans after and during their annexation and occupation of Korea from 1910 to 1945.
BUT, as we noted in our study, with increased acculturation/assimilation (2nd, 3rd, etc. generations) Korean Americans' outmarriage/interracial/interethnic marriage rates increased significantly, as did outmarriage among Korean American in their 2nd and 3rd marriages. And, outmarriage among Korean Americans was higher among Korean American women compared to men, and while eyeballing the data, the non-Korean spouses of Korean women had last names that suggested a Jewish background, and these couples' level of education were commonly at the graduate/professional school level.

9:34 is not necessary to change your last name, if you want you can do that. I actually wanted to add my husband name to mine. But I couldn’t. We are both originally from a Latin American Country ( I’m from Dominican Republic and his from Peru) and in our country we have our fathers and mothers last name. So when we got married on our marriage license we put down both of our last name although we only use one in the USA( because we have to put down our name as it is on our birth certificate) at the social security office I had no problem I added my husband last name to mine ( just one of his last name) but when I went to motor vehicle I was told that I couldn’t ,I have to take both of my husband last name if I wanted to have his last name. It been 11 years and this still bugs me 🤬 I wish they change that rule.

In this video Koreans say international marriage(kookje gyulhon) but the subtitle is interracial marriage(injong gyulhon). Interracial marriage is not yet a commonly used word in Korea. It is more of an academic term that can only be found in articles occasionally. Like 4:03 the questioner also keeps saying the word international marriage but the subtitles are interracial marriage. So this is not the kind of problem that Koreans mistake interracial marriage to include marriage with another Asian. They continue to speak using only the word international marriage.

@@gillove189 "Asian" is not a race. Asian just means someone from the Asian continent. Because Asia is a diverse continent with many races/ethnicities, such as Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Indian, Bangladeshi, Thai, Vietnamese, Persian, Uzbek, etc.
The only genetic categorization that would put Koreans and Japanese under the same group is the term "Mongoloid" which is more accurate if you want to categorize the two under one genetic lineage category.

I've seen a some Westerners refer to Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis as "East Asians", probably mixed up with "East Indians" or out of ignorance towards the Indigenous in the Americas. But, looking at the larger geographic picture much of Asia's populations such as North Asians like the Yakuts, much of Central Asians and parts of SE Asian are often seen as East Asian where those of the Indian sub continent are Indian related.

Both Hispanic and European parents have similar mindsets to Asian parents (and I’m obviously not speaking for all, but just for mine, lol). My mom, who’s Bulgarian, has said that she won’t be supportive of me dating outside of the Bulgarian ethnicity. My dad, who’s Mexican, has told me he’s FINE with me not dating a Mexican, but they still “have to be” Hispanic. Kinda ironic because they dated outside their own ethnicities, but me and my siblings aren’t allowed to, LOL. A lot of strict parents are like this, and it’s sad because it stems from tons of xenophobia and racism.

while this is interesting the underlying facts is that Korea isn't nor will it become more open to interracial marriages unless the foreigner is willing to live in Korea which let me tell you is extremely difficult. Companies won't hire you (its very difficult anyway) and unless you speak Korean fluently there is little change for it working out. Sure you can go over to Korea and stay for a few months, have fun with a few girls/guys etc but ultimately Koreans want to be with Koreans. I also find it interesting Korean men actually seem very open to explore different races but Korean women only seem to want European/american men based on stereotypes that just are not true. Average height for north Europe is tall (181cm) but for south Europe average height is 178cm which is about 3 cm taller than Korean, American is even smaller with average of 176cm. I just don't understand why Korean women believe in these unrealistic stereotypes lol. On a final point I find it very distasteful when the Korean women shun asian men and make harsh statements like "they are small" or "western men are sexy" implying that asian men are not. its a very unattractive trait to have as a person

You cannot work in the US as a doctor or a lawyer if you cannot speak English. Even in Korea, foreigners can also get a job very easily without knowing the language if they are willing to work at factories or laborious spots. In addition, people usually tend to know English at least a little bit, which makes it much more accessible than languages like Korean.
@@kingkuf7371 No, you are wrong. That's because in a lot of companies in Europe, people can communicate in English. A foreigner that knows neither English nor German cannot get a job in Germany unless it is a physically-demanding blue-collar job. Same for other European countries. Studying is an exception. You can also come to Korea without knowing Korean if you are coming just to study. Getting hired and studying is a totally different thing and they usually require different visas.

I love how the one person clarified and specified that interracial marriage meant other Asians specifically and that WORLDLY interracial still needs work in terms of how Koreans view it, the older generation mainly.
I'm in a interracial marriage (I'm Asian, my husband, Irish). We have two beautiful daughters. There were definite adjustments regarding our cultural differences. It can be quite challenging. To our advantage, we were young and more open-minded and subsequently, learned to truly respect and accept each other's culture.
These videos sometimes slightly make me uncomfortable. Not always, but a lot of time the fetishisation of white foreigners is extremely common in Korea. My friend, who’s German, visited Korea a few months back and told me that she had a bunch of Korean men coming up to her saying “I wanna date a white girl” or pestering her about doing one-night-stands, and they would tell it to her face that she’s “easy” because she’s “Russian” which she’s obviously not, but Korean men assume all foreign women are Russian, and it’s really sad. Also had plenty calling her the ‘white horse’ which is so misogynistic. I’m not generalising, as that’s not fair at all. Im also very aware that it happens the other way round (white women fetishising Korean men) but I just wanted to say that because I hear a lot of stories like this from foreign women who have visited Korea. Not just white women but black women also have a stereotype there that they’re “good in bed”, and a lot of Korean men use that to their advantage.
Besides all of that, I’m also very interested in branching out and dating someone outside of my own race/ethnicity. I’m a sucker for different cultures and traditions. Nothing wrong with that, as long as you’re not fetishising.

Realistically there needs to be better & upgraded immigration policies in most countries. Even if you’re on a spouse visa it feels like you’re just a plus one carry on. In Japan the amount of time you can work is limited & it’s just a minefield for mistreatment. I don’t want to depend on another person for my residency bc what if it goes wrong & I still want to live there? In Korea you can easily rent & open a business if you have a Korean spouse but what if that doesn’t work out?

It is more of an academic term that can only be found in articles occasionally. Like 4:03 the questioner also keeps saying the word international marriage but the subtitles are interracial marriage. So this is not the kind of problem that Koreans mistake interracial marriage to include marriage with another Asian. They continue to speak using only the word international marriage.

To the girls who don't want to change their last name if they marry a westerner, you can hyphenate your name. So it would be your last name, then a hyphen, then your husband's last name. you have to ask them to clearify what they mean whenever koreans or japanese use the word ''westerner'' because from what ive seen in these type of interviews, it is clear that the refer to whites, they clearly don't know the west is very mixed and that it makes white to not be the standard for westerner. so when you ask them that it can be a great chance to let them know and be a little more educated. i also realize that they would not say ''white'' so easily because its not from their culture, korea being a mainly korean society and not a lot of other races there, the idea of race is not prominent, so i get why koreans would rather say ''westerner'' when referring to white people instead of ''white''.
