    Thanks for the informative videos! (That looks like an old Tascam 85-16b analog 1” multitrack back in the corner. I literally wore one of those out back in the day, doing so many projects on it. Traded to an audio dealer in Florida for a newer, more pro version with super low time that had come from a Disney facility. )

    Hi Chris... Still learn so much from these old stuff in your channel.... One kind clarification please...
    The ways of parallel blending via an FX / GROUP track introduces phase issues due to the latency of the parallel compressors right ? So when the blended signal is high in volume this becomes a real issue, plus if there are more than one parallel buss, it becomes pretty obvious & sounds awkward ... How do you get about it ?
    Many thanks for all your advises & these lovely episodes of the real deal.... Cheers :)

    why there is alway a white noise when I apply parralel compression?

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Parallel compression will make the sound louder so if you add too much, it might bring up the low noise part of a recording. Maybe that's what is happening.

      Thanks for answering!
      no its actually the (delay?) of the compressor that causes this noise, when the compr is on, you will hear a noise in cubase altough the track is not played. And when i mute the compr plugin the noise disappears. And while mastering it gets extreme loud. Any tips to reduce this noise? Or the delay of the compressor.? Thanks

    Hi Chris love your videos. On your dry drum MIX bus, are all your feeder tracks (kick,snare,TOMS etc) dry as well (no compression) this is where I get confused. I usually compress my kick in/ out mics snare top/btm then send all these to drum bus

  • @Shotty4HF

    Great video as always, but I have a question, is latency not an issue? If the compressor on the parallel channel is adding latency would this not put the signals out of phase alignment? I have added a compressor to both channels and bypassed one to get around this, but in all the parallel compression videos I have seen no one mentions this? Or is it not an issue? Thanks.

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. Your DAW Conensate by adding latency when working with plugins. So nothing to worry about :-)

    • @Shotty4HF
      @Shotty4HF 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mixdownonline Interesting, thank you for the quick reply! I'm sure with some plugins I have noticed a phase issue and others not, I wonder if those plugins are 'reporting' the latency correctly. That said I don't notice any issue with Cubase' stock plugins. Thanks for your answer. Great channel.

    Hey I got a question, I did parallel compression on my tracks (in this case vocals), When I send the vocal track to the group bus I hear like a delay. the delay compensation has no use here, it doesn't fix it. any solution for this of if i'm doing something wrong?

  • @MrV43841

    Thanks for yr videos Chris .
    A Cubase Pro question if I may .
    I do a lot of projects where many songs or audio events are laid out in long sequences inside the project window .
    I will then use the marker track to name many of these , usually with the cycle marker .
    Then I will make mixdowns of the various marked tracks .
    Is there a way to have a Second track timer running in minute and seconds that starts from the Left Locator ?
    It would be very useful for me because I will send the mixed tracks to my clients and they could say , for example , "track 3 ...more guitar at 1min31seconds .
    Right now I have to go in and work out where that is .
    With a timer display running from zero at the Left Locator this would be a lot easier.

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, there's only one Ruler Track available on a project

    • @MrV43841
      @MrV43841 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mixdownonline thanks for getting back Chris . To me this is a real drawback. I will often have large projects , lots of different audio segments laid out in sequence , which needs to be in the 1 project window , not multiple ones.
      Anyone who mixes audio for film will be familiar with this...
      I can't believe Cubase doesn't care about this !
      Perhaps Resolve will provide it.

    Chris, can you maybe tell us which compressor you prefer for Parallel Compression? I know the compressor needs to be fast to get the best results. I use the API2500 from Waves all the time, but maybe you have a better suggestion? Thanks!

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The API2500 is great. The Vintage and Tube Comp in Cubase are great if you don't have anything else but my favorites are the1176 (UAD) and DBX160 (UAD)..Oh yeah, also the Arouser (Empirical Labs).. I'm keeping editing this comment, and now I need to add the UBK-1 (Kush Audio) that is a very creating type compressor that work very well in parallel... Now I'm done! Lol!

    Hi there, thanks for the video. Wondering if you could tell me if Cubase can handle doing parallel compression with OTB hardware compressors?
    I am using the middle of the road Pro Tools (not HDX) and there is a lot of hoops to jump through to make hardware parallel work properly, and in fact, it basically doesn't work due to latency.
    Someone mentioned that Cubase MIGHT be able to correct the latency issues, but I haven't been able to confirm it.
    Any clue? Thanks!

    Excellent video. Very thorough walkthrough on how to setup in Cubase. This is the first video I've watched on your channel, so maybe you answer this in another. I write primarily orchestral and orchestral hybrid music for games and film. I've seen reference to using parallel compression on this type of music to get that big Hollywood sound, especially on things like epic percussion. I, like most composers, have Groups setup for stems. For example, I'll have a group track for each orchestral section (ie one of woodwinds, one for brass, etc), plus group tracks for other things like synths, guitars, keys, etc. Would it be best to do Sends from the group track, as opposed to doing sends from individual instrument tracks? So having a Send from the brass group track to on P.Comp FX track instead of having 3 P.Comp FX tracks that I would feed from the Horns, Trumpets, Trombones, would be better.
    Thanks!

    Hey Chris, i need your help,with parralel compression for example i want
    much variations on the addlibs with panning L+R for example
    there are 30 addlibs and want this
    some adlibs left side with 13 % 40% 70% etc panning Left
    some adlibs right side with 8% 23% 64% 78% panning right
    if i want to add parralel compression on this ad libs how to set up with 1 compressor and not 15 compressors left side with 13 % 40% 70% etc panning Left
    and 15 compressors with 8% 23% 64% 78% panning
    hope you understand what i mean and give me a better workflow for this
    (i notice so far in studio one you can do this with 1 stereo compressor) is this here also possible?
    Thanks in advance for taking your time to help me out Chris
