Imagine barely being able to do addition and then being expected to solve "If 3x - y = 12, what is the value of (8^x)/(2^y)?" and someone being confused why you are struggling.
You can't just do every trick with a brand new player, breaking orbs and fighting bosses with 100 health. I feel like jerma wanted to end the stream after an hour lmao.

Yeah, terraria is hard to get into if you play with friends who already know the whole game by heart. My friend group tried to get me into it a couple times but both times they ran through the game as fast as good players do, so I was unable to really learn anything and just wandered around getting bored while they did everything.

I personally like being an ocd freak and smashing away dirt walls with a wooden hammer for 4 hours to build a crappy underground shack more so than boss fight tactics and exploits. Honestly, I think the best way to get people into Terraria is to focus on gathering building materials while following the newest player at a distance. If you only focus on the combat side of Terraria, the skill gap will be too wide for newer players to have fun in multiplayer.

It's not that hard, just guide them loosely through the game and let them figure it out at their own pace. They always run way ahead of them and try to rush the bosses while the new player's still trying to figure out how to craft a pickaxe.
When jerma brought up the deadmines, I had a visceral memory return of me as a 5th grader playing WoW, lfg as a healer druid, and then getting absolutely screamed at by some rogue twink level 19, and crying. Holy shit that was repressed.
I understood everyone's frustrations when this came out but I think it's just expectations. People wanted them to play the game normally (also Ster didn't explain much going in) but what Jerma got was basically hyper mode where Ster led him through the game and told him what to do. I think that might have actually made it better cause if it was just Jerma, like he said, he would still be cutting down trees and making a house. He would never have gotten through it. These streams were a good time and Jerma was having fun with there always being something new to do not having to worry about what to do next.

as much as I feel bad for Jerma being so absolutely clueless during this entire playthrough, I don't mind as much because: - it would have taken Jerma eight million years to figure out what to do and he would likely just be asking chat or reading the wiki - it would take even longer to build the houses - probably wouldn't build arenas at first, making bosses a hassle - spend an eternity underground making little to no progress - Sterma arguments are hilarious if you've played Terraria to end-game before, you know why Ster rushed. It's because Terraria early game is packed to the brim with useless stuff and biomes you'd rather explore with better gear. Why go underground and mine any of the early game ores when you can just get a good weapon from breaking the orbs and use it to kill the boss? This stuff is obvious to a returning player, but Jerma was ready to spend the next 5 hours left-clicking on stone and getting scared of the dark, which I think would've been more boring. However, I do think that it shouldn't have been modded, with the exception of Magical Storage, since that mod is a godscend and the rest are just more things to try and remember.
To be honest though, I think this is what happens everytime they try to play the game lmao. Ster is always the one who forces the game to progress further so that it doesnt become stale, while Jerma sometimes takes the wheel to do some funny shit and enjoy the small things in the game. I love their dynamic, and they totally compliment each other's playstyle, just that Terraria is hardly a good game for Jerma since there was barely anything he can do for "random funny humor". If we were to set the time back further during their TH-cam era, this would've been definitely been a Star video with the occasional Star Jerma arguments. I even think this was just an elaborate joke for Sterma fans.

So, I tried doing a calamity +fargos +thorium run with revengeance and masochist mode (i think it's called eternity mode now) permanently enabled. It took me like thirty hours to get to The Twins and another three to beat them, I finally hit the wall fighting the Moon Lord, I know there's a lot more content after that but, I just wasn't skilled enough. Thankfully, jerma is always there to make me feel better about myself. lol

So, I tried doing a calamity +fargos +thorium run with revengeance and masochist mode (i think it's called eternity mode now) permanently enabled. It took me like thirty hours to get to The Twins and another three to beat them, I finally hit the wall fighting the Moon Lord, I know there's a lot more content after that but, I just wasn't skilled enough. Thankfully, jerma is always there to make me feel better about myself. lol
this is actually the best and only way to get jerma to experience terraria
