I bet this car is awesome. Only shame about it is that it probably won't sell as much as a VW/audi. Therefore replacement parts will be harder to find...
Meni Fo I will be upgrading to a Superb but I own a 2007 Skoda Octavia at the moment with 230,000km on the clock and the only thing I have done is servicing, timing belt, breaks, wipers, tyres and bulbs. Literally I've had to do nothing to the car. Haven't replaced a bearing or a ball joint. Nothing has failed. Absolutely faultless.
Great review. Very well delivered with none of the standard drivel that motoring journalists echo each other about ”Nurburgring times” and ”lack of feedback from the numb steering ”. Family and business cars are about practicality and comfort foremost. This guy is also extremely natural on camera, with no awkward corny jokes
I doubt Skoda will sell any better than Alfa Romeo in the US, which sell about 40 units a month unless it's selling under VW brand. In the US, there are many brands competing with one another but when you look at it, 99% is dominated by American, Japanese, German and Korean. No other European companies except for German will ever be accepted by them for some reason.
Hi from Czech Rep... actually, Skoda has already prepared everything and will try to succeed on American market - probably in 2017 - starting with their new Kodiaq SUV. The news here are full of this.
I remember Skoda having an unsuccessful presence in the states many years ago. However, under VW, I really believe they could do well. Thanks for sharing.
I like the comments here about Skoda being a German car. According to the same theory, all Brittish cars are no longer Brittish, but German too, and many of them even Indian :)
Always the same story, when rebecca left everyone was railing against ginny. Matt is gone and now this guy (btw he's doing a good job) has to count the cost.
I love your honesty and non-bias to anything that isn't a VW, Audi or BMW - unlike some "other" journalists who would have ripped the car to pieces for some arbitrary reason like door pockets can't fit a 5 gallon water bottle, or there is a slight wobble to the center console if you anchor yourself to your seat and frantically thrash about from side to side in the car like you are having a seizure. It is a good looking car. It's kind of classy that even if it is just a media car that you don't bang and smash things open and closed and do things to it that you would never to do your own car. Great review
I saw this in person at an auto show in January, while its interior trim quality is lower than I expected, I still think it's the best car in this price range and I'm most likely going to buy a loaded model by the end of this year.
Superb review James the Goth! I can't believe how incredible this car actually is. The styling is fantastic, it is luxurious and it is highly functional. If I would go for a VAG again someday this would be on the list I suppose.
This is great cars for taxi drivers. In Ireland there a are a good few Skoda Octavia and Superb taxis as well as the Toyota Avensis & Volkswagen Passat
Here in Greece 90% of Taxis are Octavias. We have one and when my wife rented a Superb on holiday we didn't realise thst it was not an Octavia until we had driven between 2 cities. Try both.
It is a great car as I am using for over a year, steeped in good quality product, perceptible for its luxurious interiors, adequate power, DSG automatic is superb. Long driving hours no deterrence for driver and also for the passengers. Over priced in India due to taxes and duties but I understand it is selling very well. The only competition it has is with Audi and BMW but these two brands charge a bomb to the buyer for nearly same comfort and executive feel.
Don't recall your name friend, but I've always liked your reviews. But now that you're a bit more confortable doing this, I must say that it's an absolute joy watching you do these videos. More please.
I have a fully loaded Skoda Superb SEL 2.0 diesel that I bought just over two years ago with all the extras I could manage. It is in constant use and is just about to pass the 70,000 mile mark. Before that, I had another Skoda Superb L&K, diesel 2.0 s which was sold with 73,000 miles on it. My views on this car oscillate between hatred and admiration! On one level, it is economical, comfortable, has great servicing costs (compared to Mercedes, BMW etc) and it is an all round amazing machine. HOWEVER, the software on this car is just dire, dire, dire. I have had countless problems with travel assist (posh name for lane keeping) that have driven me mad - no one wants to listen to the thing going 'bing' every few seconds for a hundred miles at a time! Also, it kept dropping telephone calls and the sat nav was just a disaster - wandering off into the middle of nowhere at the most inopportune moments. The Skoda garages and customer care side of things is fair to middling - fundamentally Skoda do not really care and just pay lip service to resolving issues. On one level you have an incredible car, but on the other it is so badly let down by these software issues that have plagued it, I would have to say, 'Proceed with caution'! Sure, it is a great car - when it works. However, the software problems just never seem to get fixed. Cheap and cheerful is the best description!
+KevinTheFirefighter All Superb sold in Europe are built in Kvasiny, Czech Republic. By the way, I don't believe that the average salary in Germany is 3500 euro.
+KevinTheFirefighter well, you stated at the beginning that Skodas are built in poor countries because it's cheaper there, which is bullshit. Skodas are built in Czech Republic where they are designed and engineered. China, Russia and India produce cars for their markets only. Then you mentioned the difference between German and Czech salaries, which again doesn't have anything to do with Skodas being built in Czech Republic. Now you can take your facts and do whatever you want with them, Mr I know everything
I own a 2018 1.6 tdi Se 7 speed dsg and it is a fantastic car. It doesn’t however return anything near the quoted mpg figures. Around town it will achieve low 40’s at best and on motorway at 70 more like high 50’s / very low 60’s. I am an experienced driver and know how to drive economically and do not have the car packed with extra weight etc.
If i were out to buy a car from that class, this review perfectly describes why i'd go for the Skoda without doubt. SO much car, and especially space, for the money. Good review, as usual :)

VW owns skoda, therefore it IS german. besides, designwise, it looks VW-ish, so the VW family design is carried into Skoda, even though it's a little more daring.
I think its not so simple. Yes the VW saved the Skoda, and its influence on it is big and obvious, but the brand is and still be czech. Otherwise we could say the Volvo is chinese, the Jaguar/LR is indian, Chrysler is italian. Or that the Lamborghini is german. Or the Roll Royce, Bentley, Seat, Ducati, Bugatti etc. Maybe we could but it doesnt sound right to me...
Read the history of Skoda. It is a czech car producer , one of the oldest in the world. They made brilliant cars also before and after the war. Yes , Skoda is now part of Volkswagen group but this doesnt mean is geman. Seat is also spanish not german. Volvo is chines.( Owns by investors from China)
A rather underwhelming and lacklustre review once again with a tinge of snobbery for good measure- Skoda is not a country. Why start off by saying it is not German it's a Skoda? Skoda is part of the VW group it is a Czech brand in name only as it is 100% owned by VW, but the styling is still carried out by Czech designers, which in my opinion looks better than the VW stablemates.
angel2901 if we apply your logic to every car company, Jaguar for example would be Indian, and Volvo is Chinese, Mazda is American and etc... Sounds stupid doesn't it?
Tata owning Jaguar and Landrover is a different thing. VW designs most skodas and seats from the ground up. Some parts are taken straight out of their VW counterparts. My 2014 Skoda has a sticker in the boot with numbers for every option taken with this car on it. It says VOLKSWAGEN on the top of it... so this greasy chump reviewing these cars and straight up saying they are not german with a smug face is straight up wrong.
every time I see the center display in black and white, not even colour let alone tft nav etc, I'm reminded VW won't allow Skoda access to at least some of their latest stuff. That alone would be annoying as it is something you look at every time you drive. otherwise. cracking car.
+Vintage Eagle how about you Sir , go to dealership and get a car for ride for few days, then put your review on youtube and we will compere :) simple as that :) you all guys don`t even imagine how much work involves in doing video like this !!!! that what you see is just one of 0.000000000000000001% of all time and effort !!! so please .... just don`t .... i do understand if people don`t like video if they can do better or they know that this person talking nonsense , other then that.... just please .....
Danny Ward Grow up? What does maturity have to do with anything, it's the truth. Ever since Matt left and this guy took over, the down votes have been flowing in, I'm not saying he's terrible
+Vintage Eagle It's immature and the fact you don't see it just tells me that you are. The viewership has increased by nearly double and subscriptions have increased by 100k, is this because Matt left? No. It's normal, and people click thumbs down for all sorts of reasons. We don't need hate spreading folk to put downers on everything because they think there cool.🙈
+Danny Ward you're blind, all channels grow regardless of presenters but all the dislikes started when Matt and that first lady left Carbuyer. This doesn't show my maturity so I have no clue why you think that.
Not knowing when this review was actually filmed I wonder why you'd recommend buying any VW Group vehicle with one of their corporate TDI diesel engines? To quote Volkswagen's fraudulent CO2 emissions is massively deceptive to the viewers! To this date Volkswagen has yet to correct the software in any of its diesel engines they tried to pass on to the buyers as "clean." Those engines produce forty times the quoted CO2 emissions! You shouldn't in my opinion recommend any VW Group diesel engined vehicle until this scandal has been rectified.
The engines involved are from years back. This doesn't use any engines which were caught up in that scandal. And I think most people are past caring, to be honest...!
I think every car in the VW concern is a bit "german-ish", even this Skoda. I think VW cars are great and all, but they look so boring I fall asleep, especially the interiors. And I say this as a german :D
lol... So do Audi Q7 so its hatchback? 1. and 2. Superb were saloon cars and this one is hatchback because of the new back door system? Please learn something about cars before writing this bull shit. Or just check definition and pictures of hatchbacks.
+Marek Ščurkevič It even says hatchback on ŠKODA UK. Yes, it's maybe a liftback, but a liftback is just another variant of hatchback. Yes I understand what you mean. When you think of hatchback, you think of Ford Focus, VW Golf. It is not a saloon car like Audi A4 or BMW 3 Series because their boot lids don't open up fully, like a Golf, for example, does. An Audi Q7 is an SUV because of the jacked up suspension and I think says SUV/4x4 on the Audi website
+James Gordon I am from CZ (home of Škoda) and on our official websites its called sedan... And how are back doors opening does NOT change car category. Hatchback are small-mid size cars with back doors like Combi cars.
+Lee Yates My 525i is 12 years old, the LCI model in 2007 had a 3.0L engine which was faster and a lot more fuel efficient than mine. I had access to a new M5 and that has a 4.4L engine and that averaged 22mpg, same as my 525i. Your Superb isnt that great, after all its a VW, not a Beamer. I reckon a petrol like the 528i would be more of a comparison and it'd come out on top.
How dare VW make the Superb even better than their own Passat lol
+boy638 and also better designed...passat is ugly..
+Mario Losberg WHAT? i like the new passat even more. This one has an ugly interior, same old front but noice boot
so true!!
+boy638 they dont care! It's all about the money!!!
+Firemarioflower Hate to bring this up, but that means premium doesn't matter, then?
Much respect for Skoda, this looks like a real quality product
I bet this car is awesome. Only shame about it is that it probably won't sell as much as a VW/audi. Therefore replacement parts will be harder to find...
@@rtownz251251 it deserves to be popular to be honest
My best friend owns a Superb 2011. That car is fantastic. It's got nearly 100k km on the clock and it's been flawless every single km of its life.
Meni Fo I will be upgrading to a Superb but I own a 2007 Skoda Octavia at the moment with 230,000km on the clock and the only thing I have done is servicing, timing belt, breaks, wipers, tyres and bulbs. Skoda, Please bring this car to the U.S.!
+Steve W Hahah . My cousin lives in the US and since there's no Skoda there he believes the car is not competitive enough. What a shame :D

I saw this in person at an auto show in January, while its interior trim quality is lower than I expected, I still think it's the best car in this price range and I'm most likely going to buy a loaded model by the end of this year.
Actually, it's pronounced as "shkoda" not skouda.
Cool
nahh
We pronounce it differently in the UK. notice people say "Volks-wagen" and not "Volkschvagen" or "Hi-you-nd-aye- not "Hunday" like the Yanks
I just thought... If English people were able to learn how to pronounce Bordeaux or pizza, then one Slavic word shouldn't be a huge problem :-)
you'd think haha
Aaaaooooouuuu naaaaooouuuu! It´s a Skaaaaoooooouuuudaaa :)
nice buttcheek..
Listen :) upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/16/Cs-Skoda.ogg
why do you need a ice scraper with magnifying glass? Isn't Skoda big enough to notice it?

Fiats are treated like a trash in the US along with Alfa Romeo which sells 40 units a month...

I sat in one of these in a showroom, it is the most comfortable car I've ever sat in
Skoda made a superb car (pun intended obviously). It's the perfect car if you want practicality and reliability at a reasonable cost.
At 3:10 he literally copied that section from Matt's review of the Superb estate
So? Does it matter?
VW Passat definitely looks better but this car is a very handsome Skoda.

very practical car. not sure if estate version is better on efficiency.

Good review, as usual :)
my speakers cringe everytime he pronounces the letter S...way too much jaw movement when talking...
Top review, I learnt a lot about this car.
i've been driving it for 6 months now... great everyday car... i dont have DCC unfortunately... a bit numb
More car than a VW Golf at less money. Seems impossible but they are great cars.
i would like to see a comparaison between renault talisman and the skoda superb , great video
The Renault Talisman will not be available in the UK, so a comparison between the two cars is highly unlikely
I like this guy! Nice pace and energy.
when are you going to do a review of the 2016 Kia optima
Any feedback on the automatic gear box?
Head of Motoring Video for Auto Express and Carbuyer! underestimated a little I think.
Nice review!
Have Skoda ditched the "twin door" saloon/Hatch opening
I believe Skoda starts with an S that has a v shaped tick above that S - which is pronounced as SH, so it is NOT SSkoda for english, BUT Shkoda, right?
Škoda(Shkoda).
btw ŠKODA was not German back in the 90s, now however it is.
The thing is, cat reviewers pronounce it wrong. In ŠKODA UK adverts, it is pronounced SHKODA, the proper pronunciation

How is Czech Republic "part of Deutschland"?
You have more space in the trunks of a Superb sedan than in a lot of breaks XD
You should finally start calling this liftback. This is no hatch whatsoever ..
Its a hatchback the boot opens above the window.. in the uk atleast no one would know what a liftback was...
i dont get why they all make grey roof. why dont they just make black. isnt that
sensitive and looks way better, for same price..
What is the recommended timing belt change interval for this car?
It doesn't have a timing belt, it has a timing chain, never needs changing.
You sure?@gordonhamilton727
Only the 2.0 petrol variant has a chain not the rest@@JstAytber

Who ?
Quiet? I disagree - I find there is quite a lot of road rumble compared to my current car, which is a Holden Caprice. (I'm in Australia)

I wend for the Mondeo, just because of the looks. Nevertheless, i do respect Skoda for this. Amazing car.
I would love to purchase from you 2014 skoda superb manual Dsg
I know someone who is seriously considering this over the new Jag XF due to it being about £10,000 cheaper!!!

I think every car in the VW concern is a bit "german-ish", even this Skoda. I think VW cars are great and all, but they look so boring I fall asleep, especially the interiors. And I say this as a german :D
Do a review of Audi a4 quatro allroad 2016
Maybe you should read what is definition of hatchback... This is Limo/Liftback/sedan/saloon car but definitely not Hatchback.
It is a hatchback. The tailgate opens up like a hatch
+Marek Ščurkevič Then I don't know why ŠKODA UK labels the Superb as a hatchback then...
How is that a hatch back
Lets see in 10 years if it is better than the Passat. 5th door is its advantage.
My 525i gets 22mpg with aggressive driving so 20mpg is kinda pathetic in 2016
+Lee Yates My 525i is 12 years old, the LCI model in 2007 had a 3.0L engine which was faster and a lot more fuel efficient than mine. I had access to a new M5 and that has a 4.4L engine and that averaged 22mpg, same as my 525i. Your Superb isnt that great, after all its a VW, not a Beamer. I reckon a petrol like the 528i would be more of a comparison and it'd come out on top.
