    Some people don't like that movie and it may not be the greatest film in the franchise, but for me it was always a great, long TNG episode. With an random space anomaly, some timey whimy stuff, a Data B plot and the Duros Sisters. And it's a great end for both Kirk and the Enterprise D.

      What I didn't like was Captain Kirk could have been replaced with a stout club.

      I remember seeing it in the theatre and once home was asked about how it was; my response was almost exactly that it "felt like a long TNG episode." I do like the film but clearly the next entry is far superior!

      It's a very unworthy end for the D. It's destruction bothers me a lot more than Kirk's death, tbh.

    To be fair, I saw Marina Sirtis at a Trek Con Memorial Day weekend in 1994. She let it slip that she believed Picard wouldn't let Troi drive the ship again. She didn't delve into the why.
    Fast forward to Nemesis... I busted out laughing when Picard ordered her to ram the E into the Scimitar. 😂

    • @johnkling6657
      @johnkling6657 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I saw her at a covention before its release as well. She mentioned that she was driving and something happens. And, I laughed as well during NEMESIS. The TNG Enterprise was crashed only when Deanna was driving. Too funny.

    Hopefully this won't be covered in pt 2, but there's something I'd like to add. Geordi's abduction scene was trimmed due to it being too intense for a PG rating. Originally, Soran was shown torturing him by stopping and restarting his heart, which is why he later comments "his heart just wasn't in it", which makes no sense with that segment removed. Also, the gradual costume changes were meant to slowly ease into the DS9 style uniforms rather than everyone suddenly wearing them simultaneously.

  • @vaevictis6990
    @vaevictis6990 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I actually appreciated the mixing of uniforms. Starfleet had a new uniform out, and it makes sense people would change clothes as they went off shift leading to a mix as shifts mingled.

    currently going back and re-watching the films. I know most people hated the whole Kirk thing in Generations, but I realized something: in the horse scene with Kirk and Picard, Stewart is doing all this heavy lifting acting about Starfleet and shit and Shatner is reflecting his time in the series with an almost melancholy nostalgia. Shatner isn't particularly hammy in his decisions to first ignore the mission (re: Star Trek) and then the quiet acceptance that this is all there is. There's just something in his eyes,
    In fact the whole film he plays it with a deep sigh, realizing it is his last one.

  • @LtFoodstamp

    This is my favorite TNG movie.
    First Contact was amazing, but the Borg, as well as dark and gritty Star Trek, has been overdone since. Generations has a wholesome Star Trek quality to it, and it it's the only one with Kirk and Picard, and the only one with the Ent-D looking all glorious on the big screen.

    Don't know what to do about the effects budget problem. Story-wise, though, the saucer crash-landing would have been a novel cliffhanger in TV land! On-film, it was just checking a retread box. Would also have been more novel if the Star-drive survived.

    Sulu would not have had to be reduced in rank. It's not odd for an admiral to take command of a ship and the current captain become XO temporarily. Also the captain of a ship is always referred to as "captain" even if their rank isn't captain. Many smaller ships have lower ranking officers but you are still "captain" of that ship.

    This film will always carry a dark aura for me at least. When explaining how I feel about it, I often use the example of John Wayne. Imagine film makers back in the day coming up an idea where a beloved John Wayne character has to die on camera. It would have to be one hell of a heroic death and in the end, Kirk's death just doesn't do it for me. The man survived too much to be killed by a rickety walkway.
