The new battle pass and all the design changes has ruined siege for me this season… I’ve played a few games which were genuinely good and I didn’t see that much of a difference while playing but omg I just hate how Ubisoft has handled the delays in content for siege and the way they treat creators… kinda hope they go bankrupt or some situation where siege gets handed to another company that will treat it better

Chris, not only was that video sponsored and obviously featured the freecam, but I also made a video talking about how cool a freecam would be when fully realized! It literally says "SIEGE HAD A FREECAM???" in giant yellow letters in the thumbnail! From a marketing point of view, (I don't like being the "muh degree" guy) but pretending exciting features of your product are secret potions brewing in a cauldron underground and smiting people who "pull the curtain back," is a short-sighted and frankly ignorant business model. I wish I had an answer for you. I'm keeping my videos up on principle, cause we've done absolutely nothing wrong. The burden to communicate here was on Ubisoft. If they want to hit me with a strike then they have no idea how petty I can be lmao!

Thats the fall back if you lose internet access to the ubi servers. Good cause it means you'd be able to play the ops youve purchased when seige eventually becomes unsupported and shutdown

This was really a great, mature and informative video to watch! It's a very good point you made about how the scariest part about this is that they won't tell you what was wrong. It creates a lot of uncertainty for creators that Ubi doesn't tell them what's the problem with a video

Fair use still applies if you make money off the end product, think about all the late night comedians that use footage from companies they're criticizing, all of that footage probably wasn't used with the clear consent of the company but they still use it to make commentary about the content and with that they produce a show which they monetize. Monetisation plays no part in whether it's fair use or not.
Maybe Ubisoft don't like the hacker replay vids in general.. just speculating? As they may show Siege/Ubi in a bad light. It's also Christmas holidays, so maybe the over sight isn't there on such decisions at the moment, as others have suggested? Valorant is popular, though I don't play it personally and there's always COD and BF but they're quite different games I suppose. CS GO is meant to be getting a new engine at some point, it might be worth looking at too. Unreal Engine 5+ will probably produce new interesting games too, though obviously it will take time for those to emerge.

Also, hacker's in PC games have been a problem for a long time, and has went as far back as Para Bellum for me- it's most possibly further. I don't really understand the "free cam leak". I just built a PC, and have been on Siege for a week. I went to match replay because I thought I had a hacker, and it automatically started in free cam every round until I double clicked on a player, so it must have been released very recently, or it's a massive bug they can't fix, which is par for the course with match replay and Ubi.
You are probably thinking of birds eye view, where the free cam I had could be moved wherever you want. If you are talking about what I experienced, then that shows how prone to bugs the game is and I got hit for no reason

My brother and I got one for Square Enix when I played FF XII on our channel. We appealed it since they only targeted a single part of the video. We appealed it and it dropped and we never heard anything back from it.
I had a few "Copyright Strikes" over the years, usually by some fake name (which I go look up and no info usually), like first one I had was from some random Japanese company doing music from a German music band like, that is suspicious. And more recently, I did 2 Date A Live translation videos, and a different Japanese "company" took it down, same company for both vids. Literally, if I know who published the song I made video of, and it doesn't match the one who "claimed" on TH-cam, then the TH-cam one did a fake takedown.
Glad I watched the original video before it was taken down. The freecam was very cool and should have been implemented from the beginning. I'll keep looking for your videos, especially the hacker replays. They're great.
some audio tips for you running your small channel: 1. get a standalone microphone (example: Audio-Technica AT2020 USB), this will give you MUCH better audio quality for cheap 2. use acoustic foam and put it up on your walls around your room to reduce echo, it doesn't have to be expensive, more stuff in your room wil reduce echo significantly 3. consider using wired headphones (Audio-Technica ATH-M30x, ATH-M40x, ATH-M50x, Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro, Sony MDR7506, Sennheiser HD 280 Pro, and the list goes on...)
I just avoid Ubisoft, haven't bought products from them for years. Really no shock they would do something dumb. I'd just never stream their games again, why give them free advertising? To avoid further headache, you could just blacklist them. They're the ones losing out.

I was really excited when you used free cam hoping it was now a feature or a feature coming soon. Would be great for content creation or simply studying/exploring maps.
This is why I think it's risky to rely on one specific game for a channel, especially a company like Ubisoft. It's best to try and branch out honestly unless you know they won't do anything like this again. It's just way too easy to get screwed over on this platform
I would check the EULA for information on recording and sharing footage of the game, if nothing is mentioned they have no legal rights as you have agreed to that EULA when you play the game, therefore the EULA is the binding contract legally speaking. Therefore uploading and making money off of GAME footage can not be claimed as the whole copyright stuff is done by the EULA. Id check it, its where most of the sneaky stuff is.
This isnt true. Copyright isnt something that is regulated by their EULA. If they own the copyright to the game, which the ofcourse do, thay can copyright claim it.

I thought I was hallucinating and I never watched a VG video because it was never there… But still, they are not that bad compared to R* or EA.
It might be possible that it is free cam that was the issue but when Greg did his video on it that was during the TS so maybe it wasn't counted as a leak. It's also possible that free cam was originally going to come out back when that video went up but it was cut from that season and now it's seen as a leak. Anything is really possible until Ubi responds but I doubt they will any time soon
Man between Ubi, Sony, and Wizards of the coast, 2023 is shaping up to be a bad year for gamers, it'll be a great year for the companies trying to fleece us though.. maybe we need to start throwing the word 'boycott' around the community to address this issue..
The thing that frustrates me most here is the refusal of communication. Mistakes happen or there is a different background for the strike that is not clear, but for Ubi to just go silent on it with a big content creator for their content is tremendously bad.

One thing I would like to point out is that the video of Gregor's that you referred to could be of gameplay on test server, so ubi kind of expected some features to get leaked or players finding it out, whereas yours was on live server. Seems like a stupid enough reason to me for Ubisoft to use it as a reason to copyright strike your channel. Could be wrong, dont know. Either ways it sucks this happened to you. You can def monitize and still be fair use. TH-cam legal even advises creators this directly from google support. Nothing I’ve seen from lawyers suggests that this copyright claim is anything but spurious. You should dispute.

I am no expert but I believe it's actually a little more complicated than "fair use doesn't cover any monetized videos", although non-monetize videos are more likely to be protected.
"Commercial uses are less likely to be considered fair use, but it's still possible to monetize a video that contains fair use material. Fair use is a legal doctrine that says you can reuse copyright-protected material under certain circumstances without getting permission from the copyright owner"

This is why I think it's risky to rely on one specific game for a channel, especially a company like Ubisoft. It's best to try and branch out honestly unless you know they won't do anything like this again. It's just way too easy to get screwed over on this platform

I would check the EULA for information on recording and sharing footage of the game, if nothing is mentioned they have no legal rights as you have agreed to that EULA when you play the game, therefore the EULA is the binding contract legally speaking. Therefore uploading and making money off of GAME footage can not be claimed as the whole copyright stuff is done by the EULA. Id check it, its where most of the sneaky stuff is.
This isnt true. Copyright isnt something that is regulated by their EULA. If they own the copyright to the game, which the ofcourse do, thay can copyright claim it.

It might be possible that it is free cam that was the issue but when Greg did his video on it that was during the TS so maybe it wasn't counted as a leak. It's also possible that free cam was originally going to come out back when that video went up but it was cut from that season and now it's seen as a leak. Anything is really possible until Ubi responds but I doubt they will any time soon
Man between Ubi, Sony, and Wizards of the coast, 2023 is shaping up to be a bad year for gamers, it'll be a great year for the companies trying to fleece us though.. maybe we need to start throwing the word 'boycott' around the community to address this issue..
The thing that frustrates me most here is the refusal of communication. Mistakes happen or there is a different background for the strike that is not clear, but for Ubi to just go silent on it with a big content creator for their content is tremendously bad.

One thing I would like to point out is that the video of Gregor's that you referred to could be of gameplay on test server, so ubi kind of expected some features to get leaked or players finding it out, whereas yours was on live server. Seems like a stupid enough reason to me for Ubisoft to use it as a reason to copyright strike your channel. Could be wrong, dont know.

You can def monitize and still be fair use. TH-cam legal even advises creators this directly from google support. Nothing I’ve seen from lawyers suggests that this copyright claim is anything but spurious. You should dispute.

Just a heads up that random people can pretend to be official companies and claim videos- look into what happened with a guy who pretended to be Bungie and was striking several videos from Destiny TH-camrs (could potentially be the same case here)
