They really did an excellent job evolving the designs of the villains with some grounded elements that still carry the cool factor from the comics. Doc Ock, Mr..Negative, Kraven and Venom in particular are really well done.
A lot of Spider-Man villain designs can be tricky to adapt into a modern and “realistic” setting because a lot of them were basically just guys in tights, and some of them (I’m thinking specifically of Vulture and Scorpion here) were in mostly tights with a high-tech weapon strapped to their backs. I think Insomniac did a good to great job with their designs, but at the same time I’d love to see an adaptation (doesn’t have to be a game, even a live-action movie or tv show works) that either embraces the campy designs or sets it back in the 60s where the designs fit better
Thanks for putting the time into this comment! I agree with you that they should embrace the comic-accurate looks in some medium in the future. Take a look at what James Gunn is doing with the DCU, Superman and everyone else has their iconic comic-accurate outfits. Maybe Marvel Studios could take a note of that and make their soft-rebooted film franchise after Secret Wars into a very comic-accurate universe where everyone has their iconic outfits.
I don’t know what rock you’ve been living under, but the whole “villains in tights” thing died out years ago. In the comics they’ve gotten revamped to look more modern and menacing, idk why anyone would want those childish and cringy designs back.
@ I’m aware the mindset is to take a more modern approach to the costumes, but that doesn’t prevent anyone from making an adaptation set in the 60s or something where the costumes fit better. And maybe it’ll still come off as cheesy and childish to some people. That’s fine, you don’t have to watch it/play it, but I’m just saying it’d be an interesting experiment that I’d like to see
If there's ever a scene where they go back to th 60s in a diff dimension, they should do that like they did with classic Loki, but definitely not in a modern setting
In Doc Oc's fake lair where spidey almost gets bombed in Spiderman 2018, I'm pretty sure you can see Electro in his old costume cannon to the game, or maybe its in a newspaper i cant remember
I think with hammerhead (for me anyway) it's less the design and more the story choice. Like when I found out that the dlc was all about hammerhead, gang wars, the maggia, dons, I got really excited for it to be a street level storyline, like what spider-man was originally made to do in the comics. And when they started stealing the sable tech and had the project olympus stuff, it felt like kind of a cop-out
I dunno man, I'm not a fan of everyone being slapped into an armored suit. They could've stuck to the original designs more closely without it coming off as silly. Besides, does Scorpion really need that armor? I understand his tail being mechanized, but having the rest of the costume being an armor too is a bit much. He's not just some schmuck off the streets that needs the armor to go toe to toe with Spidey, he was on par if not a bit stronger than Pete in his early appearances. And Rhino? I guess him having an exoskeleton armor is fine, but I would prefer if it had less details that showed the wires and the pieces where they connect and if it was less angular.
I appreciate you putting the time into a thought out comment like this! You make some great points, the movies have kind of influenced that idea as well that every suit has to be a tactical, technological hybrid with the classic looks. Most of the suits blend them very well, but others don’t. Thanks for the watch!
I agree about scorpion, but I personally feel like it makes sense to have rhino in armor because his main goal in the first game is to be free of his suit
@@luafamily Are you daft or something? Obviously, he would wear a costume. I just expressed my opinion that I don't like the modern trend of putting everyone in some kind of an armor or exoskeleton.
Hey man, good video, but it would be nice if you could edit in some clips/photo stills of the characters as you talk about them. It’s nice to get some reminders of the specific design in detail while you talk about them. Plus it makes it more engaging!
I thought of Tombstone after publishing the video 😄 I think his design is pretty good, I just have mixed feelings on having him as a biker gang leader instead of a competing gangster with Fisk. Scream’s design was basically bang on from the comics though, probably an S tier design for her. Thanks for the watch!
To add to what he said, Sandman and Black Cat also looked pretty good. Felicia didn't look very comic accurate, but her design still works for her. And Flint's casual wear looked pretty good, though as long as the point of him stands that he looks like a mound of sand, I think he can wear anything.
You forgot about Simon kreiger, tombstone, silver sable, chameleon and scream. If it were my opinion, here’s my ranking of these missed characters: S - No one A - scream, silver sable B - chameleon, tombstone C - Simon Kreiger D - No one Reasons: scream has such a small head, tombstone didn’t wear much keeping him from A, they just gave Simon kreiger a lab coat and some blond hair, had the option to give chameleon the iconic mask, they nailed silver sable but she’s plain.
Yeah I realized these weren't on the list when I ended this, but I also didn't create this template, it was already there. Those are valid reasons for your placements of those characters though. It's a shame they didn't lean in on showing us an accurate Chameleon instead of the fake identity he uses at the end of the side mission. Thanks for the watch!
I appreciate the feedback. I’ll make sure to keep this in mind when doing another one. I thought the web pictures would be visible but I guess not. Thanks for the watch!
@ they’re enough to make out a shape and to be generally reminded what they looked like but if I want to analyze them up close and see all the detail as you talk about them they’ll for sure need to be nice and big. Keep up the good work!
Great ranking mate. Really serpriced with mysterio. I would have 100% thought it would have gone in A or B. But totally get what u mean just needing the fish bowl more
Thanks! His design was just a disappointment for me, I’m so used to the green and purple and it didn’t work for me. His look with the fishbowl in the game is cool but it’s not as good as the more iconic interpretations of the suit
Wasn't included in the list template, but he would have been highly placed since they did a great job with his scale and look. Marko's design was well done as well
Wasn't on the list, but I'd consider her more of an anti-hero anyway. Her design is very well done though for this franchise. Hope to see more of her in the future games. Thanks for the watch!
Venom's design is so amazing, which makes the fact that his character was butchered and the story fumbled Harry's transformation into Venom even more disappointing.
Facts. I don't see many people talk about how venom was so different than any other version before him. Almost to the extent of ruining the character entirely.
They really did an excellent job evolving the designs of the villains with some grounded elements that still carry the cool factor from the comics.
Doc Ock, Mr..Negative, Kraven and Venom in particular are really well done.
They certainly knew what they were doing with the big main villains! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!

If Hammerhead were instead Silvermane, it would make far more sense for this design
That’s an awesome point! Silvermane would be really cool to see be included in this franchise
amazing channel bro, keep it up!!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed
Every design was fire except for electro
Yeah they never seem to be able to pull off a comic accurate updated version of electro or green goblin because they look so goofy in the comics
Electro looked like Peter Capaldi
@@headshot217I thought electro looked cool in no way home
His scar mimicking his old mask is cool- that’s about it
@@dustyode1520Yeah that was the best part of the Insomniac design

Black Cat is an S tier, obviously
Venom already looked cool anyway. Rhino had the best redesign he’s ever had in ANY ADAPTATION!!!
Nooo you forgot about Cletus Kasady my GOAT
Awesome video Nate, I really like some designs, Doc Ock was a personal favorite.😊😊
Really appreciate that! Doc Ock was really well done in this franchise. Maybe we'll see a bit of a different look in Spider-Man 3 if he's in it!

Mysterio in C 😿
